Fontalina

I booked a table for a family gathering of 10, for a Saturday lunch. We live a 5 hrs drive out of the area, & came down to see my husband’s mum & family. When we lived in Melbourne Balnarring was a favourite beach, & I knew the shops & had seen the restaurant area (some years ago now). Fontalina was not a restaurant I knew, but by reading the reviews on here, & visiting their FaceBook page.studying the menu I went with it. Honestly it was the best lunch I’ve done with a largish group (& if we were a couple I’d still have been rapt!), which included 3 younger people. 3 in primary school & 1 in early high school. Everyone was able to find something on the menu they wanted & loved.the adults were able to relax & we could hear each others conversation. Honestly we could not have wished for a better experience.and those wood fired pizza ovens made it SO cosy gven the chilly weather. We’ll definitely be back & highly recommend️

I first had this pizza which I loved a year or two ago. And always get it if I am having pizza. Had it tonight. Had it last Sunday. Had it a couple of weeks ago. And each time seams to have less and less stuff on it. I am not going to have it again for a long time

Love Fontys! Our regular pizza haunt. Vegan & coeliacs taken great care of with the best GF pizza in the world. And those 500ml Peroni - the perfect accompaniment to a classic Margherita. Dirk and his team really know how to take care of their diners. Keep up the great work folks! In the meantime I’m off to have a glass of Pinot and a chat to Caelen at Rubi Mammas around the corner. Another fave Balnarring haunt.

Wow. This food was awesome. Staff were great. I was visiting from the west of Melbourne and was suggested to go here and I rate it. The pizza bases were so good. Sitting here a few hours I still can’t believe how good it was. The value. $110 for 3 pizzas. A pasta, 3 beers and a coke. So worth it.

It was amazing, the chefs have some great pizza making technique. The wait staff really provide a great experience too. Such a nice place to have dinner or lunch

Highly recommended. Had a Sunday lunch with friends here. Can only comment on pizzas which were perfect and as close to the real deal than I’ve ever had in Australia. A massive thank you to Davido and the whole team.

Service was fast, and the staff were friendly. The restaurant is designed well and has a good atmosphere. It was buzzing with the sounds of people enjoying their food and conversation as it should be at an Italian restaurant. The food was a bit lack luster tho, the prices seem reasonable until you get your meal and realise the small serve is the reason for the low price. My 12 year old daughter finished the main gnocchi, 2 slices of garlic focaccia, and was still hungry. We ended up having to order desert not because we wanted it but because we were still hungry, I was very close to ordering a pizza on top of my main. The menu is also very limited with pretty standard italian offerings that are done, OK but no better average. There is also no kids menu, with the only option for younger kids being the entree serve of lasagne, meatballs, or chicken wings. That being said, we did not have the pizza, so that could be a completely different experience.

Was very excited to be dining at Fontalina but left a little flat. Seated at the very back hidden away from guests we felt isolated and separate to the experience. Requested a table move but advised full house. Entrees Polenta in red sauce, chicken wings with caramelised onion and wagyu beef carpaccio. Polenta was Delish, onions with chicken weren’t cooked enough but chicken had great taste. Beef was not carpaccio, it was cured beef with rocket and Parmesan. Needed a drizzle something to lift dish. Pizza’s were ok, didn’t have that those big bubbles in the crust and capsicum was undercooked. Wine from Veneto was amazing and beer was value for coin.

Everything about this meal and dining experience was perfect. Amazing food, wonderful, warm staff. Thank you. We will return shortly.

Family lunch (6 adults) a couple of weeks ago was terrific. It was a first time visit and we had a reservation.which was probably necessary as they became very busy. Plenty of menu options and the ability to cater for a GF guest added to it becoming a very relaxing lunch. Service was friendly and efficient, the food was very good.including pizzas, homemade potato gnocchi, grilled octopus and baked chicken. The only disappointment was the mushroom pizza which was somewhat flavourless. Wine selection had both local and Italian wines.our Italian red was very good.

First impressions are so important and unfortunately this was not a good one. Asking to swap a table due to the arctic wind pouring in from the front door with 3 kiddos under 4 felt like we were such an inconvenience. The attitude we copped for a table change was a little shocking. Having worked in hospitality we know it can be a little stressful on a Saturday night, but it was 5pm and we had a solution. It’s how you make people feel. We started the meal a little angry. The food however was delicious. Just need to work on the people skills.

Yummy Positano pizza. Tasty, fresh and very efficient service considering how popular and busy it is. Garlic and cheese focaccia also very yummy. Recommend.

Our favourite pizza place, good it local. Always nice and fresh and hot. Great place to dine in with food and drinks. Good value for the quality you get. All staff always helpful and freindly.

I took my family of 6 here for my mother's birthday over the Melbourne Cup weekend. We all agreed that this was the BEST Italian meal we could remember. Our waitress was lovely and ensured we were well catered for. The food was absolutely divine! Highly recommend.

Went here for dinner for the first time last night. First impressions were good, staff were welcoming and friendly. The food took a really long time to arrive, we were waiting 50 minutes for pizzas, while we watched food being delivered to tables around us who had arrived and ordered after us. Once it did arrive I wanted to order another drink but both waitstaff took off before I even had a chance to mention it. I got up and stood in the middle of the restaurant trying to find someone to get their attention to order another drink but no one could be found, I didn't particularly want to drink water with my meal. On my way back to the table I mentioned to my friend that the service wasn't great, which a regular customer overheard me say. This customer then when and dibber dobbed to the restaurant manager about my entirely justified comment. He then came over to our table while we were mid eating to passive aggressively ask me if there was a problem. I've never been approached this way before, his attitude left a lot to be desired and he should have approached me about it when I was paying, perhaps not try and start an argument with me while I'm trying to enjoy my meal. My friend and I left prematurely because of his behavior, way to go to ruin our evening. They are lucky that their food was good, but I definitely won't be back.
