Look up Top Restaurants in Melbourne on Trip Advisor and right at #1 you will find fine dining Italian restaurant Foglia Di Fico, the name translating to “Fig Leaf”. They pride themselves on making the bread and pasta which is made fresh in-house daily.
As soon as you step inside it transports you to somewhere in Italy and table is set up in a way that it almost feels private. The service is elite, very attentive to every small detail and offer you some complimentary fresh bread to start. I ordered the Foglia Spritz which was huge, I only needed the one for the whole dinner.
We shared an entree size of the Octopus, we were impressed by how much flavour was absorbed into it and how tender it was from being braised. My first time trying Goat Ragu was a hit, deep flavour but the Gnocchi didn’t have as much bite to it as I prefer. The figs were a surprising addition.
My mum adored her Tonnarelli Al Frutti Di Mare, the seafood taste was not overpowering and very fresh. Both pasta portions were huge and we were offered extra bread for mopping up the sauce. The potatoes were perfectly crispy, can’t ask for more than that.
It’s a nice date night spot, very mature and classy. My mum is a fussy Italian and gave it a 10/10, still raves about it today. A really pleasant dining experience.
4.5/5 (Great)
We went for a special occasion and were treated like royalty. A fantastic old school Italian restaurant that makes intimate dining special. The food is absolutely superb, but the squid ink pasta and duck gnocchi are sublime, well be back just for a plate of each. The wine/drinks list is extensive and if in doubt ask your waiter as they know their stuff and don't miss the single pot stilled whisky.
Excellent food, unique and classy ambience and most importantly, top notch service that is the best to be found in Melbourne. Clear and passionate
We had arancini, duck gnocchi, squid ink pasta. We had an enjoyable evening. Food was flavourful. Nice ambience.
AMAZING food and AMAZING service by the wonderful Luca! One of the best Italian restaurants in Australia!
First class meal, great service and such a lovely place. Its was easily the best italian food we have had in 20 years. I thank them so much for a wonderful experiance.
The vitelo tonetto is to die for!
One of my fav restaurants in Melbourne! They have home made pasta! The goat ragu is amazing!
Homely vibes! Good wine! Friendly service! Classy but chill!
I wish I could leave more than 5 stars. Went to Foglia di Fico last night and we’re still smiling at how good the food and service (Serena) were. Very intimate atmosphere, warm lighting, it’s hard to remember you’re in the middle of busy Melbourne. The food was exceptional, sophisticated italian flavours with an edgy twist, every plate that came out was better than the one before.
The entire experience was AMAZING. I’ve been here before and I cannot recommend this place enough. Takes me back to Italy instantly. I don’t think I’ve ever had pasta as good as here. I’ll continue to recommend and dine here, as it never disappoints! Didn’t even get a chance to take a photo of all of our meals as we couldn’t wait to eat. Thank you
Myself and my sister had a fantastic evening! The entrés were superb (the Caprese salata is a must have!) My capilacci was intense & flavourful - full of seafood-ey punch, whilst tamed with the prawn filled capilacci & the paired Vermentino. The walnut & fig gnocci was rich and luxurious, as was the Panna Cotta dessert - paired with equally rich and heavy PX sherry.
All and all, fantastic service from both Luca & Serena, as well as great meals & accompanying dishes from the kitchen.
Must go place in Melbourne, the reviews are real and it completely changed my thought on Italian pasta just order anything it will make you happy
One of the best place to dine at!
It was our son's birthday and we missed out on booking a fancy place for his birthday celebration on Christmas Eve. After calling few places on 24th with no success, I left a message for Foglila and received an immediate response. They not only accomodated us during the peak hour but also gave us one of the best spots in the restaurant. The food was amazing, very well plated and the ambience is wow! Cosy and warm and hospitality is just awesome.
Will highly recommend and will dine again when in the town.
While the restaurant has a few elements that can go a long way in making a fine dining restaurant, Foglia Di Fico misses the mark, perhaps even the board.
As a family style restaurant in the outer suburbs with $15 mains, I'd give them 4 stars, but competing in the fine dining space in one of Australia's food capitals, with mains heading up toward $60, they definitely have some work to do.
Food lacked the finess of anything near fine dining. Overcooked soggy pasta, with the menu descriptions not matching what was served.
The service was good, but only good. No one bothered to mention there is a tasting menu or ask if we had questions about the menu, simply a polite "do you know what you want? "
A tourist trap that fails to deliver.
Such a great restaurant and can’t believe I’ve only just discovered it. The flavours of each dish was delicious and not really your traditional flavours.
Thank you for being such a happy and accommodating team especially on Christmas Day
Best Fine Dining Experience in Melbourne. I have been to Foglia Di Fico a number of times and each time I visit they amaze me with their outstanding customer service and delicious meals. My family have a number of allergies including Celiacs disease, egg and dairy intolerances so eating out can be a huge struggle. Each time we visit Foglia Di Fico the staff go above and beyond to cater to our dietary requirements by modifying their meals to suit our allergies. Their food is absolutely divine and by far my favourite Italian restaurant in Melbourne. I highly recommend you try one of their seafood dishes and their in-house wine when it’s available. Do yourself a favour and visit Foglia Di Fico.
We had a lovely night. Service was warm and friendly, suggestions on Italian wine was spot on. Risotto and pasta mains were outstanding (much better than some of the better known Italian restaurants). It’s a gem, will definitely be added to our regular hangout spots.
Great experience, wonderful food, service. A really nice place to eat and be able to chat to those around you without being drowned out by a loud environment or music. Will be back again.
Top notch service, excellent food. Reminds me of when I was in Rome. I would say this is one of Melbourne’s top Italian restaurants.
Highly recommend the Arancini and Tortellini.
