Flinders Backpackers reviews
49 The place is dirty, there is a lot of noise all the time, people are disrespectful. My partner and I stayed there because we didn’t have another option in that moment, and we found a mouse inside of the room walking everywhere at 1am on Wednesday (we study early). The receptionists saw the mouse so they found another room but it was more expensive and of course they charged us the extra price, even when it wasn’t our fault to find a rodent, we needed to move all our stuff at that time and pay extra.
Also, the shared bathrooms were always out of order.
MICE IN THE PIECES, TERRIBLE ORGANIZATION, INDIFFERENCE AND LIES IN PRICES
We stayed in this place for 5 days.the very high prices.unhealthy kitchens.elevators always bad. A mouse appeared in the room which did not stop running in the room. We asked them to do something and they changed our room for the same price (or so they told us, Plus we had to move all our things 3 floors at 1 am)
We had to pay for one more night but they raised the price by 60 dollars and our previous room was no longer available.they robbed us with the price
We are still here completely dissatisfied with the service.all we want is to get out of here
Not usually a fan of big hostels like this but the staff both at front desk and cleaning do a really nice job, very friendly and the bathrooms I've used are always clean. The rooftop cafe is super cute and the bar downstairs has fun events and pool.
The big open windows right next to beds on the 11th floor seem really unsafe though.
Rooms are big
Kitchen is always far too busy and it’s disgusting, people staying here don’t know how to move their dirty plates from the table, or wash
Very very overpriced for what it has to offer. Wouldn’t stay here again
We had a super clean room. The kitchen was nice and big. There is a bar and a cafe for breakfast. The staff was friendly. Unfortunately, we didn't even have warm water in the shower the entire week, no matter what time of day.
Weren't able to get pictures but rooms and facilities were clean. My wife and I booked the double room and it was so spacious. Will definitely come back here again we we visit Melbourne. Staff were very nice. We checked in at 3am but we were still accomodated.
Please add railings onto the side of the top bunk beds! There’s currently none and I feel really unsafe sleeping on the top (of course no other beds were available as the bottom ones were all taken). I feel very scared and unsafe that I will turn and fall down in my sleep and it could be fatal or could paralyse someone for life. It’s very dangerous. I’ve paid $50 to stay at a dorm room for one night with 6 other people and I don’t dare close my eyes and sleep, I’m actually considering probably pulling an all-nighter because I don’t dare to fall asleep and I am really sleep-deprived and would need sleep. Please solve this issue ASAP!
Good stay but so loud especially when it was the grand final on Saturday and there was hepps of loud pelope outside and I am not sure but I think there is a pub next to the place and the people at the pub was so loud in the night as well.
Do not stay here. 1 star is too high to describe my experience.
I booked a room here for the Christmas/New Year Holidays for the 22nd of December and paid for a week. Because of the craziness involved in the Christmas Rush I could not get a train from Sydney until the next day and forgot to change the booking. I showed up and was told that I never had a booking. After some panic, I confirmed the reservation in my email.
Turns out, when I didn't arrive for check in they made no attempt to contact me and simply gave my reservation to somebody else - Effectively leaving me stranded in a strange state if it wasn't for the fact that I had contacts here.
Too add insult to injury, they straight up lied to me when I arrived at the reception.
On the phone they told me that my money was refunded but I am yet to confirm this. In reading these other reviews however, it seems I may have dodged a bullet.
Try to get the cheapest room, not worth the difference in paying a superior one.
Paid for a superior room which are located in the 11th floor, one of the elevators is not working (and there’s too many people for only one elevator), the showers were out of order and had to go one floor downstairs to use the showers (no need to mention that were very dirty and not matching the price paid as 11th floor are renewed).
Staff were really helpful and no surprises with the room. Lifts were pretty slow and showers were sometimes cold, otherwise great
Do not stay here! Understandably the accomodation was pretty full with the rain, but staff were unaccommodating and conned me out of money twice. Last time I asked to leave my key at reception knowing that I may not be around at check out to collect key deposit (due to last minute bus), they refused and told me I had to do it in person. Frustrating but gave them the benefit of doubt. Came back again this time (even with my key from last time). This time was forced to book separate rooms and would have to check out (10am) and back in (2.30pm) 3 times during my trip, ended up finding somewhere else after their recommendation that they were full on Sat night. What frustrates me is they then refused to refund the stay they just told me make as they needed 24hrs notice. I wouldn’t care but it was staff who suggested to make the booking this way.
They care too much about profit and very little on guest experience. Hostel is run down and rooms over priced. Location is the only thing going for it.
There’s so loud because of the location and other customers.
If you book female dorm 1010, there is a crazy long-stay girl. She keeps talking with her friend until 4am and other friends visited many time during all the night.
Then at 5am, people who came back from a club or something and loudly talked in the corridor, and the voices are directly hear in the room.
There is free breakfast and good atmosphere, but part of customers so crazy and noisy.
Great location, affordable prices and clean amenities/ rooms. Stayed in the dorms on level 11 and they were great. The common area on level 3 was a bit dull and lack lustre however compared to some other hostels I have been to. The hostel needs some more life and colour. There also isn’t any areas to chill other than dining room which is disappointing. The dorm rooms have a locker but you need to get your own lock. Similar to the towel hires, as a suggestion - why don’t you provide locks for hire too? Could you also run more social events (like the movie night) during the week for hostel residents to meet new people? The room swipe card also kept not working even when it was near the phone - can alternative key methods be looked at so we don’t need to keep visiting reception whenever we get locked out?
Don't stay here on Fridays/Saturdays if you're wanting to get sleep. I wish I'd been warned in the booking page but hindsight I could've done more research into reviews. The pub downstairs is open until 5am and you can feel the bass vibrating the walls and your beds. I had stayed at other backpackers in Melbourne but never experienced noise issues as bad as Flinders.
Other than that the room I rented was clean and everything stated was provided. Just wouldn't stay here again as it's impossible to get sleep.
It can get a little loud on the lower floors during the weekend. However, the higher you go the quieter it gets.
Friendly people but that’s about it. Noise is an issue, can’t sleep as there is a club on level 1, windows don’t close properly so you hear everything outside. If your tall don’t come beds are way to small, room likes like a prison cell just missing the bars on the windows. Good breakfast? Not really unless you like oats and muesli with milk. You hear everything from your room. House keeping vacuuming at 10pm?
No parking associated with the backpackers, hard to find. Weird people outside.
Good location to everywhere, but if you like to sleep don’t come here.
This is one of the few hostels on Melbourne that are clean AND affordable. If you're sensitively to noise make sure to bring earplugs though, as the hostel is right in the CBD and close to the train station. You'll be hard pressed to find a clean, affordable and quiet hostel in a good location though; something has to give in this case it's street noise.
With free breakfast (pancakes, variety of cereal and toast with lots of spreads), movie room and big common area as well as good customer service, this is the best hostel I've been to in Melbourne.
If you're staying a week or longer ask for weekly rates.
Amazing hostel right in the city center! I literally enjoyed walking back each single time because the street it is on is full of exciting restaurants and people. Really nice staff who are very friendly and accommodating and rooms on up to 11 levels. Definitely stay there if you can!
We had a good experience bed was comfy breakfast provided was good for what it was. We will come back
