That same sad tree every year. Time to renovate or add some novelty factor for Christmas. Too much clutter around the tree which doesn't help at busy times.

We loved Melbourne, fantastic city, great food, trams, sites but Fed Square on Christmas Eve was CROWDED! Millions, we didn’t dare to go close…. I walked around it early morning next day, nothing much to see …. Not sure what’s the hype about? Or did I completely miss the fed square and saw something else

Iconic public event space in the heart of Melbourne CBD. One of the major tourist attractions right opposite to Flinders street metro station. It has got the ACME museum and an NGV exhibition area as well right adjacent to the same block.
Major sporting events like Australia Open are screened here on a big display with ample open air area to sit and watch.
Currently there is a fan zone of FIFA WWC tournament with other tournament related counters and other attractions.
Great place to hang out during Christmas, new year and other major public festivals!

Umm weird place! Few trees and green in general. It feels too "cementy". There are cafes thank goodness though you need some luck to find a place to sit! As for parking you need to pay of course.

Federation Square [1] is located on the bank of the Yarra River in the city center (CBD) of Melbourne, the capital of Victoria. It is Melbourne's largest public square, covering an area of 3.2 hectares. Bordered by Flinders St to the north and St Kilda Rd to the west, it is an open multi-functional square where many social activities in Melbourne are held.
The Federation Square project is to build a new civic square for the city of Melbourne. Its open-air amphitheater can accommodate 35,000 people. In addition, there are about 44,000 square meters of cultural and commercial buildings, including a new building for the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia. (NGVA), the Australian Center for the Moving Image (ACMI), as well as ACMI and SBS office buildings, studios, galleries, etc, as well as many restaurants, cafes and shops. All of this is concentrated on a 3.6 square kilometers of land, equivalent to building a new city for Melbourne.
Federation Square is one of the popular places for dates in Melbourne, especially the visitor center on the square. There are a variety of festivals here all year round, and it is also one of Melbourne's classic places for New Year's Eve countdown. In addition, the giant screen here often broadcasts important sports events such as the Australian Open Tennis Finals, Australian Rules Football Finals games, large international Many tourists and local residents love to gather here to watch the opening and closing ceremonies of the sports games.

Fed square is always fun to visit, though the construction is a but much at the moment. Did an Aboriginal cultural heritage walk, which was really interesting.

With roadworks going on and public access blocked from two sides, it might be disappointing to go here at the current timing. Please consider entering from acmi side or the river side.
Lovely area with lots of events going on which changes every now and then. Will be good to check on event updates and visit it.

This unique piece of architecture has a lot of space and warmth. It provides entertainment and art for many different tastes, and spending time there is a pleasure.

I had heard of Federation Square in passing and thought it would be a good idea to check it out, how right I was! It is so vibrant and interesting that it would take a couple of days to really experience all that it has to offer.
I was particularly impressed with the art in the Ian Potter Centre.
Federation Square is a must if you are going to Melbourne.

Cool place to hang out (when it's allowed, ofcourse). Host of events keeps you engaged. The large screen keeps you glued to live actions. The relaxed seating has been s good addition in recent days - allows you to lay back and enjoy the sumptuous food around around the outlets, and the big screen.

It seemed a smaller than usual (construction) people were making the most of it with what was on offer. Good to be out.

Good place to sit down and take in the hustle and bustle of melbourne. They’re are more than 470,000 ochre-coloured sandstone blocks from Western Australia and invokes images of the outback. The paving is designed as a huge urban artwork, called Nearamnew, by Paul Carter and gently rises above street level, containing a number of textual pieces inlaid in its undulating surface. MORE THAN 470,000 individual squares on the floor! Also acmi is great place for a fun weekend day with the kids/ family!

You could say that this is a place that exist in a general area where theoretically you could exert dopamine. You can visit here in a mode of transport and may experience an amount of utility.

Went to fed square today for pixar putt with the family. Loved it the pre booking meant no real ques and the sessions were limited enough you hardly had to wait. Great family fun it does end quickly so longevity isn't something to look for in this event. However I still recommend it for a laugh and a chance to get back out into the city.

Iconic place in the heart of Melbourne. Often has many different events and pop ups attracting all walks of life to it. Also a nice place to relax/chill and enjoy the Melbourne skyline. There are some pretty cool bars/restaurants on the riverside but also interesting museums and galleries near the square itself
