Empek Empek In Melbourne
Empek Empek is the famous fried fish cake from Indonesia that is super hard to find here in Melbourne. Family Ria not only serve this bad boy but also has one of the best tasting one!
Would recommend my fellow Indonesian to find this place and have a go at it.
For the Australians people, if you are looking for a hearty snack that taste umami with spicy sour sauce? You should try the famous Indonesian fish cakes.
Food is delicious, especially the fish cakes - pempek sampler. The place is a little cold in winter! Needs better heating.
My go to restaurant when I crave for bakmi. Special shout out to the guy who served me today (Saturday 21st Oct 2023), his service was beyond five star. It’s a humble little restaurant but he served everyone as if it was a 5 star hotel restaurant. His employer is lucky to have him. Hope the owner gets to see this. Give that man a raise please
Nice little Indonesian restaurant hidden near Wattle Park. It's just at the 70 tram stop destination at River dale Road.
I ordered the egg noodle with chicken and mushroom. I must say it tasted really good. The noodles was nice and soft and the chicken and mushrooms were delicious.
Yes, I would come back again and try the other food.
Food was great, price also affordable. Lots of choices, but pempek is the best in town. I had the chicken noddles, added the special sambal, and the taste became more delicious. Chicken honey also good. Friendly service, the food came pretty quickly. The place is clean, and plenty of parking space around. Located just in front of tram stop (tram no 70 to docklands). Highly recommended.
This is the best empek2 in Melbourne fish cake indonesian the best and the place just renovated so spacious now, close to home. Usually going here for lunch or even takeaway, friendly restaurant and highly recommended, the noodles are very delicious similar to hometown
It has the best fried rice, must try! All other foods are also good, especially the fish cake. The place is always clean with friendly staffs. Love it! Thank you!
As a food enthusiast, I was pleasantly surprised by the Mpek Mpek sampler at Famili Ria Restaurant. The mix of flavors and textures was well executed and the accompanying sauces added an extra layer of flavor.
The Nasi Goreng Famili Ria was a standout dish, with a well-balanced blend of spices and a generous serving size. The Pangsit Goreng was also a highlight, with a tasty filling and a satisfying crunch.
The kerupuk udang, or shrimp crackers, were a nice touch and added an interesting flavor to the meal. Overall, the food at Famili Ria Restaurant was enjoyable and the friendly service and atmosphere only added to the positive dining experience.
On Saturday, wanting to stay and support local restaurants and shops, we decided to ‘enjoy’ lunch here. This is the fourth time or so we have been to this restaurant. Never again. No more chances. This has been disappointing every time. We ordered the noodle dish with chicken and mushrooms. Well what can I say; the noodles were awfully oily, tiny pieces of a few diced chicken (and that’s being generous), no mushrooms in sight served with a ‘chicken soup’ which was basically water with a chicken stock cube thrown in for colour. We also ordered the chicken ribs with rice. Same deal. 5 pieces of chicken lumped with rice on the plate. All for a ‘deal’ of $30! Very disappointing. This establishment needs to either review its service and meals or move on. It’s highly offensive to the diner who is genuinely trying to support local.
Best pempek in Melbourne and I always order it with a side of mie ayam pangsit. So filling but worth it. Definitely not there for the ambiance or decor but the food speaks for itself. Can't wait to return.
Very bad service. Arrived ~2.10pm on Saturday for dine in, but we were told we couldn't dine in while there were tables available and we saw other customer were already sitting on a table and waiting for their order to be taken. Irrational, bad customer service and strongly not recommended.
The Pempek is special!
They serve some good snacks (bakso and bakmi) that you should try as well. The place is pretty clean, but quite small for dine in. The staffs was friendly and professional, and your food will be delivered in a great time. They also preparing sambal (tamarind), soy sauce, tomato sauce, white paper, salt, and any additional spices which are good. And, all the price is very great.itbis around $ 12-15.
And again, their Pempek is undoubtedly amazing!
When you come to a restaurant, you would expect one or more of these things: the price, taste / food quality, portion size, ambience, the overall experience. If one aspect is not so good (e.g. Not very tasty), you might still come if the other aspect is outstanding (e.g. Great ambience, restaurant is uniquely designed, etc.).
For this restaurant, the price is relatively expensive given the portion size.both the pempek sampler and the noodle that we ordered. Pempek was not fried long enough, not crispy and the colour was pale. The noodle was nothing special either, a bit bland compared to other Indonesian restaurant selling similar dishes. The food, though dine in, was served in plastic bowl like for takeaway. Probably not enough kitchen hand staff. The ambience was nothing to be desired as the place was rundown. I hope they can lift up the game otherwise will be hard to compete with other new restaurants that keep coming up.
The broth of Bakso Campur was too salty. I couldn't eat the broth, since it was too salty. Mpek-mpek was alright though.
Great food but very poor service. Not recommended for dine in. Only three sets of table available. The rest of the restaurant is cordoned off. The guy taking order doesn't seem to care on whether customer comes or go. We walked into the restaurant and requested for a table. Instead of asking us to wait for a table, we were ignorantly told that no table is available. No effort was made to get us to wait for table to be available or to set up new tables even though there is a lot of space and tables available that is not used for dine in.
The Indonesian fishcakes (pempek) are a must try here. They're known to be good at that, and they are. This is our go-to restaurant for Indonesian fishcakes.
The noodles are good too, though occasionally it's slightly soft, but the taste is pretty consistent.
If you like spicy stuffs, the fried chicken with rice (ayam geprek style) is good too.
It's not the cheapest restaurant though, but for its authenticity and consistency in taste, i say it's worth it.
Ordered takeaway from Famili Ria, the food was good. Chicken was well marinated and tasty and homemade pempek is yummy!
Nasi goreng was quite tasty and flavor full and was spicy even. Maybe tofu noodle soup was quite bland compared to this and could do better. But overall very tasty food. Ambience wasn't great but staff was warm and friendly.
My Indo friend says it's the closest she's come to home. Recommend the pempek and the random snacks.
