Eureka Centre - Home of the Eureka Flag reviews
61A real turn off for visitors. If the site of Australia's emerging democracy has the make the people PAY to experience their freedom, it defeats it's own purpose.
A fascinating look back in history at the struggle our forefathers made which enables us to live with the freedom we take for granted today.
Wonderful visit to the Eureka Centre. Heplful friendly staff at the information counter, the cafe and The Ballarat Historical Society. Couldn't have asked for any better support. Highly commend Eureka Centre.
The centre was undergoing work and upgrading some of the information booths. It would be nice to offer a discount based on this.
Loved this place, so much history to take in. This particular visit had a bonnet display ; absolutely enthralling.
Visited here about 10 yrs ago and was really impressed. Did a revisit this week and was totally disappointed no displays no history walk just a flag and a few words of history. Would not recommend this to anybody
As a teacher I didn’t want to miss this! Seeing the Eureka flag was a highlight and the displays and interactives were very well presented. There are references to the ‘big picture’ of democracy and civil rights and I would like to see this museum expand to include more of this to widen its appeal. There’s only so much you can say about the eureka stockade. The cafe staff were very friendly and happy to chat and the view of the park from the cafe was lovely.
I would recommend reading up about the Eureka stockade before coming here to truely understand the significance of the flag
It used to be excellent when it was MADE - Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka, but sadly the Ballarat Council dropped funding. Not much reason to visit now. The flag is still there, but is that enough in itself?
The excellent permanent and temporary displays are gone, the gift/book shop carries a more limited range of goods and the cage hasn't gotten any better.
The flag is worth seeing. Entry is cheap. Lots of interesting information, displays and items. We went on a Monday morning and were the only people there. We were there for about 90 minutes. A female staff member was walking around preparing for a school to visit and she was extremely loud, yelling all over the place for half an hour. It was rude and NEARLY ruined our visit. Please respect your guests.
DEFINITELY WORTH A VISIT TO BETTER UNDERSTAND AUSTRALIA'S EARLY CIVIL RIGHTS / DEMOCRACY
The Eureka Centre is best known as the home of the Eureka Flag - a potent symbol of worker rights and rejection of autocracy. There are high quality displays and an onsite cafe (which is OK without being great). Usually an entry fee but recently when there it was under renovation and the fee was waved.
An hour is plenty of time to explore for most people (history buffs may want to spend longer).
Museum open our eyes for what happened to the poor miners more than 150 years ago. A lot of electronic displays that tell you the history. Museum promotes freedom, democracy, and equality. Highly recommend.
So enjoyed the visit here as to me it was a must for Australian History. The Oral Histories. Artifacts (The Southern Cross Flag the Highlight) and Actual Memorial. Not sure I agree with the Inclusions of other countries within it's walls. However I do understand the signifance of how it's related. Its a must to visit as part of our country Great Heritage and early struggles. Highly Recommended.
Pretty expensive for the 30 minutes it takes to see everything. Free if you're a local but would pay to see it.
On the site of the Eureka Rebellion and displays the remains of the original flag. Should be on every Australian's bucket list.
As at 12th November 18, this museum is undergoing renovations and is still open, but there is NO ENTRY CHARGE. So while many of the interactive displays aren’t working properly, you can still go to see the Eureka flag which is well worth the visit!
The only thing good about this "museum" is seeing the original Southern Cross flag. Expensive, poorly executed and an attempt to glam up social policy. Spend your money elsewhere. Do not believe the glowing reviews, things like "nice cafe" or "wide range of souvenirs", which are obviously fraudulent.
You have been warned.
Really interesting and informative display about freedom of speech, censorship, political protest and propaganda, with a bit about nationalism and race. Reasonable price. Good range of products in souvenir shop. Easy parking. Very worth visiting.
Great place to learn the history of the Eureka Stockade. Exhibits are informative, interesting and meaningful
Must visit Australian history to get to see the maps of our indigenous people do you know where you were born or live now in Aboriginal lands you can find out look at the maps
