Dr Joseph Sgroi

I came to Dr Joe in Jan 2022 for a third opinion for unexplained infertility. At that stage my husband and I had been with 2 clinics, done a total of 18 IVF cycles including 11 embryo transfers (fresh and frozen). Out of that we had 1 pregnancy resulting in a 13 week medical termination due to a severe abnormality identified at 13 week scan.

After discussing history and options, Dr Joe was confident that there were a few more avenues to explore before considering other options including lab procedures not offered at my previous clinic and also some further testing and treatment options for us.

We found Dr Joe very compassionate but also realistic too, preparing is to consider other avenues if thing’s still didn’t work.

After two stim cycles, embryo testing and two transfers we were blessed with the embryo that stuck and after a problem free pregnancy and top class care from Dr Joe and his team, we recently welcomed our miracle rainbow baby to the world.

The attention to care that we received throughout IVF and Pregnancy from Dr Joe and his medical and admin team was impressive. We saw Dr Joe himself at the majority of our appointments and he carried out key IVF scans egg collections and transfers himself, this was not the case with our last specialist. He also generally runs to time unless there’s an emergency.

Forever grateful for the top class care and who knows - we may be back for another!

My husband and I could not be more grateful to Dr Joe and his team for being with us throughout my pregnancy and bringing our baby girl into the world. I was a very unwell pregnant person (especially in the first trimester with Hyperemesis Gravidarum) and to have him and his team available for assistance and guidance was truly incredible. Dr Joe had a great sense of humour, was always informative and kept us on track for the nine months. We look forward to seeing him again when we have baby #2!

We were lucky enough to fall pregnant with our 1st cycle of IVF, and I had a very smooth pregnancy and labour. Throughout Joe’s care, I always felt well looked after, he was full of positivity and answered all questions needed as well as the beautiful nurses. I knew I was in good hands from the beginning and I believe that is part of the reason why I felt so relaxed through my labour. We will definitely be back again for number 2! Dr Joe and his team are second to none. We went through the IVF process to become pregnant and from day one Dr Joe was understanding and compassionate. We were lucky enough to fall pregnant on our first round of IVF with twins! Dr Joe always made us feel at ease and gave us his time and answered all our questions without feeling rushed. His support team from admin through to the midwives and nurses were all amazing. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Dr Joe and his team.

The best in the business…
Dr Jo has been my Gyno, IvF dr and OBgyn. He caught both my babies in 2 glorious births where I never doubted that Dr Jo and his team had my best interests at the heart of my care. He is a superhuman that loves what he does and it shows. The care was beyond what I expected and there is a reason he is the best business. I can not thank him enough for all that he has done for our family of 4

We can’t praise Dr Joe and the team more highly. After a very rough fertility journey, Dr Joe always listened to us and supported us when others didn’t. His team is incredibly organised and were always able to move mountains to ensure we were seen. Also, as someone who researches everything and is super stubborn, he was always willing to hear me out and never tried to override my wishes. For someone so successful, he doesn’t have an ego which is a rarity. He also safely delivered our precious boy and did so calmly and skilfully. We will always be thankful for Joe and his team.

Cannot say a bad word about Dr Joe and his team. I had the most amazing service from fertility to obstetrics. There was no doubt in my mind that once Dr Joe managed to get me pregnant first cycle (after 6 failed cycles with a previous fertility specialist) that he would be the only person I would trust to deliver our baby. He was always thorough and explained exceptionally. No question was ever unanswered. Most importantly he gave us the gift of completing our family and I can’t thank him enough.

After disappointment at another clinic we changed to Dr Joe, it's the best decision we made. Dr Joe is very thorough with testings/protocol (found out potential factors we didn't know with the other clinic), professional and personable. We are currently 8 months pregnant after first transfer. We highly recommend Dr Joe and team. Thank you all

Dr Joseph Sgroi is world class and would have to be the best in his field. I was not even a patient yet and he called me on a Saturday to check how I was doing and created a pathway for me that was supportive and with my best intentions at heart.

His care, detail and manner is outstanding and something I have never seen in the medical industry before. He even called my mother in Perth to let her know was I good hands.

I would not go anywhere else for gynaecology or fertility care.

Joe managed my 1st pregnancy. Throughout the pregnancy it always felt like he was too busy to spend time in appointments being thorough. In the latter stages of pregnancy, I was suffering from an irritable uterus, constantly having contractions and in so much pain - in and out of birth suite. Joe didn’t take the time with me to talk me through this and only had time to ask me about it in a full waiting room at 37 weeks as he couldn’t see me for my appointment (this was really awful when I wasn’t sleeping and needed support). He wouldn’t even book in an induction despite me really not coping. He ended up leaving 1hr after breaking my waters in my labour with no handover from his team, didn’t deliver my baby and didn’t visit me afterwards. We declined the 6 week PP visit and gave feedback to which he offered me free care next pregnancy (no thanks). He since shows off on his instagram about how he’s “never missed a birth unless they gave birth on the way to hospital” which is completely untrue, especially as he induced me. I understand situations out of your control happen but don’t go on to lie about it.

I ended up having another baby 13 months later and my OB (Dr. Israelsohn) was incredible in comparison. So caring and empathetic. I suffered from an irritable uterus again and despite it coming on earlier in my pregnancy, being listened to and heard made such a difference and I had a stark comparison in terms of experience.

EDITED TO ADD:
Based on Dr Joe's reply, I think he is being very misleading in trying to discredit my genuine review. I am also not sure that he remembers my case as he mentioned COVID concerns (my baby was born in Feb 2020 - pre-COVID).

Re my point about induction: I begged Joe to book an induction for the 39 week mark because as he pointed out, neurodevelopment occurs from 37 to 39 weeks. He would not book this despite it being in my best interests for my own mental health so that i had a date to anticipate and could work towards as I was not coping, largely because I was not being shown compassion or empathy. I was also not sleeping and struggling mentally due to the irritable uterus. Maternal mental health is very very important too, clearly Dr. Joe does not value this. I do not believe I was well supported through the challenging late stages of my pregnancy, many instances in the delivery ward due to the irritable uterus were not addressed by Joe or his team. I did not receive any additional support aside from the standard appointments, which as I mentioned weren't always attended by Joe.

Re the birth: I was never informed that the nature of your reason for leaving was to attend a family emergency. As I mentioned in the review and reiterated to you when we spoke after the birth, I understand that things happen, I do think the timing is interesting considering that you broke my waters about an hour before, but nonetheless it may just be bad luck. My issue is more that there was no handover and there was no communication. As you've mentioned, you had two midwives employed at the time who could have come to visit me during labour and reassure me/provide handover. They also could have attended for postpartum visits. I am a reasonable person and totally get that things happen and OF COURSE family ALWAYS (not sometimes) comes first, but it needs to be managed better and I think Dr Joe going on instagram and bragging about never missing a birth is completely inappropriate and disregards experiences such as my own, misleading future patients. While you state you are busy because you are "generally well liked" I also wonder if you take on more patients than most and more than you can handle which is why the care isn't as good.

I truly do hope that my experience was just an anomaly and that usually Dr Joe is fantastic, however I have heard many things since my birth which lead me to believe otherwise.so after much consideration, I decided to share my experience. I think the fact that I am still disappointed by my experience when my daughter is almost 3 highlights the profound impact it has had.

Dr Joe was a great support during both of my pregnancies. He was always available and accessible whenever I needed him and was very clear with his communication and thoughts. Simple things like remembering personal details about yourself or family, or being on time for appointments were a normal part of his practice. He clearly genuinely loves and is passionate about his work and during both births shared our joy when our babies arrived. I am very thankful for him encouraging me to do a maternal assist for my second birth, which was a very special and memorable moment for me. We always left our appointments feeling very supported and listened to by Dr Joe (and his team) and feel very thankful for all the care we received.

Dr joe is very kind and very experienced doctor. And he know the patients want. He help us got two boys.we are very grateful to him.

Before booking my first appointment with Dr Sgroi I had come across his Instagram page about a year before falling pregnant. I loved watching his stories and admired his vast knowledge from fertility through to obstetric care and womens health. His wonderful analogies and diagrams in his videos helped me to better understand my body and how it worked and I knew I wanted him to be my Doctor. Unfortunately our first pregnancy ended in miscarriage however Dr Sgroi was so gentle and caring with his approach, allowing us to grieve whilst also providing hope for our next steps. We began our journey to pregnancy with Dr Sgroi and loved his meticulous approach with crossing every T and dotting every I. We felt safe and secure and just generally in good hands. Not once did we ever doubt that we would achieve our goal of falling pregnant. His gentle approach reverberates through to his team from the front desk as well as the wonderful midwives. They are all amazing! We now have our beautiful baby boy that Dr Sgroi caught in July! The support and care given to us by Dr Joe and his team was second to none and we look forward to going back for number two! Thank you!

If I could give more stars I would! Dr Joe and his team are amazing. Dr Joe is caring, compassionate and empathetic and always listens to you and answers all your questions (doesn't matter how silly they me be). He genuinely cares about each of his patients and goes above and beyond.from simple things like sending a SMS congratulating you on your pregnancy, to following up to see how your iron infusion went. He even sings your little one " Happy Birthday " when they are born and sees you on the ward post birth to make sure you are doing ok. No doubt that we will be seeing Dr Joe for baby #2

I met Dr Joe after I had suffered 3 miscarriages. None of the specialists I had consulted before could understand what my problem was. I was so hopeless then finally I met him.
One single visit and he got straight to the point on what my problem was. Just one simple test, the right one. A month after, with the right treatment, I was pregnant naturally with a beautiful baby boy. Dr Joe followed me also as obstetrician and I had the most perfect pregnancy one can dream. Very competent and professional I had a very good care from him and his team. I had some complications during labour but he was able to manage it so well without any problems for me and the little one.

Overall, I don't have enough words to thank him enough for what he did. Extremely professional and well prepared. I always felt I was in good hands and never suffered of anxiety during pregnancy despite all my miscarriages. I feel very blessed to have met him.

Highly recommended! I will definitely go back for my next pregnancy!

With Dr Joseph Sgroi, we are one step closer to having our dreams come true. He investigated all possible issues and found that I have high levels of natural killer cells. The reality is that we were able to become pregnant only to have it be an ectopic pregnancy. There is no one I would rather have as a surgeon than Dr Sgroi.
