Don Don Footscray

Delicious Japanese food that's great value for money with their large portions and very reasonable prices.

First time here and liked food but was disappointed with the portion size.

We ordered karage curry don and for the price, I don't think portion size does any justice. I do eat at a lot of Japanese places with generous portion sizes so I felt the difference.

Karage (popcorn chicken) was well made. The curry was a bit watery but had a nice taste.

Cheap quick rice bowl with standard portions. Quite tasty as well.

Three stars as the staff was extremely rude. The register was an Asian young lady, she didn't answer to my "hi", let alone responding to the "how r u". Smiling? Nope. She looked at me like an annoyance instead.

The guy who gave me the food was fine though. Basic/normal 'here's your meal' and 'thank you'.

Excellent quality food and excellent price is very convenient if you’re looking for something easy to go or take away. The place was clean and the atmosphere was good. Perfect place for a lunch I’d say!

The kitchen was absolute chaos with the chef running in and out, food kept being brought to the wrong customers, and the staff weren't sure who had ordered what. The wait was really long both in placing an order and for the food to finally arrive at your table, food was really average.

I had high hopes as the city store is great. However, I'll give this one a pass.

Cheap, simple, speedy and informal Japanese dining. Options for both vegetarian and meat eaters at around $10 per bowl. Taste is also great!

We were looking for Japanese food in Footscray and stumbled upon this place. The prices led me to believe they were smaller plates so we ordered 3 things. When they came out, the bowls were huge and the food was fantastic. The salmon sashimi don was super fresh, the chicken katsu perfectly fried and not too oily and the soba salad had so many tasty fresh and pickled veggies and tofu with a lovely dashi broth. Nice work, Don Don. We'll be back.

Food and service were awesome. However, the restaurant needs to be cleaned better. The area where the sitting table are is incredibly dirty. I don’t want to imagine how clean it could be inside the kitchen…

100/10 recommend! You can’t beat the price of Don don and what you get is really delicious/great quality. Only paid $8 for tofu curry don and spring rolls $5 for about 12 pieces…

Was in Footscray thought to give don don a try, the place was small and dining area lacked hygiene service. Tables were not cleaned or was not adequately wiped and previous customers food bowls were not taken away!
We ordered the sashi don, chicken curry don and chicken udon. Over all food was good family thought their dishes was a bit salty. For me it was the typical don don taste.
Would have provided a higher rating if the place was more cleaner and hygiene.

Such a great place to get quality Japanese food for a cheap price. I’ve tried both their CBD and Footscray locations and have enjoyed both of them. The Pork Katsu this time was so crispy, so juicy and a great portion as always. Lots of rice, pickled ginger, ample amount of curry. You really can’t go wrong here. A great option for students, highly recommend!

Hit or miss, hard to decide. Sometimes good sometimes not as good. Curry Don tastes very sweet, is it the rice?

Price is excellent

Absolute value for money and the quality and taste is always on point Special mention to George who provided such friendly service and went over and beyond. Definitely one of Footscray's go to spots!

Meat to price ratio is really good.
Food is tasty. Don't expect fine dining for the prices. But really good.

Stop going here a while back because the food quality and customer service dropped, but decided to give them a second chance, and it was a mistake.

They've gotten worse, the food was soggy and tasteless, music blaring far too loud, staff was rude and to top it all off the restaurant is not clean, food scraps on floors and tables look like they haven't been cleaned at all, sticky.

Won't be coming back.

The opening hours are inaccurate. They not open at 11am on Mondays. I was there on two Mondays around 11.45am and both times they were closed.
The good: Affordable food.
The bad: Dirty dine in area.
