I booked unlimited Yum Cha at David's for my birthday!

We arrived right on-time and we were shown to our table.

Even though the guy told us briefly how the unlimited yum cha works, I didn't exactly understand it until the third course They bring out one-by-one the entire menu until the last item, which is the dessert (an insanely delicious white chocolate dumpling, resembling a mochi). At that point, they go around all tables and ask everyone if they'd like repeats of anything. Of course, I doubt it anyone would ask for anything at that point, as, by that stage, people are basically stuffed!

Everything was fresh, beautifully-presented, and delicious! It came out at a perfect pace too! We also ordered jasmine tea, which was really good.

The interior is also very nice (really Prahran-like) and the service was great!

I paid $278 for 4 people, which included the tea and the sparkling water.

I'd definitely return to David's and recommend it to friends too!

The best Peking duck I’ve had - yes better than flower drum. And I don’t like Peking duck so that’s a win.
Some of the best food I’ve had in a while. I hadn’t been to David’s for years and I’m glad I went back. Will be visiting more often.

Absolutely fantastic dumplings. Lovely entrees. Not a large selection of main courses. All the food was pretty fabulous.
The service was good but a little slow clearing and cleaning.
However, I will definitely be back.

Fantastic experience, we are from Tasmania and have wanted to dine here for over 12 months. We were delighted with the food and service, 100% coming back soon.

Really nice yum cha. Lots of variety and well made food. It didn't blow our minds but it was really good.

Worst visit I’ve had. Dry duck. I’ve never not finished the duck. Service average. Crispy pork was good though. I used to come here fortnightly 10 years ago. The frequency dropped about 5 years ago and has been in decline since. This may be my last visit. Unless someone gets me another damn gift certificate for my birthday again. My last visit was meant to be last year…

Title: A Truly Disappointing Dining Experience

Rating: (1 star)

I'm writing this review with a heavy heart, as our recent visit to this restaurant left us in utter disappointment, with our special occasion - a birthday - ruined by the subpar experience we had.

Firstly, the service was far from acceptable. Our server seemed disinterested and unresponsive. It felt like we were intruding rather than being welcomed guests. We were ignored for long periods, and when the staff did engage, their lack of professionalism was palpable. There was a distinct lack of the basic courtesy and respect one expects when dining out.

As for the cleanliness, it was downright appalling. The floors were sticky and evidently had not been cleaned for a while. It's disconcerting to think that an establishment serving food has such low standards of hygiene. This lack of cleanliness extended to the bathrooms, which were also in a dire state.

Adding to the already dismal environment, the rubbish bins located outside the restaurant were not just filled to the brim but overrun with rats. It was a horrifying sight that greeted us even before we stepped inside, certainly not the first impression any diner would appreciate.

It's distressing to think that our anticipated birthday celebration was tarnished by such a disheartening experience. Instead of a joyous occasion, we were left with a bitter taste that had nothing to do with the food.

In a world where dining out is as much about the experience as it is about the food, this restaurant failed on all accounts. I'd strongly advise anyone considering a visit to think twice, especially if you're planning a special occasion.

I hope this review serves as a wake-up call to the management. It's clear that immediate improvements are necessary in both the service and the cleanliness department. For now, unfortunately, we won't be returning.

David's has to represent the best value all you can eat Yum Cha in Melbourne! The food is outstanding, and the atmosphere too! Get amongst it.

Reliably good! Can't get enough of their Sunday yum cha, won't find any better. Thanks David's for the fantastic dining experience and amazing, attentive service.

Food was amazing, we had the late Saturday yum cha. Service was ordinary in our section of the restaurant. Missed service items that were served in other service areas, forgotten drinks, drinks not replenished. Was disappointed considering the reviews. Quality of food was very good, service left me disappointed in my experience of dining out here.

The dishes were not too over mixed with other culture but tastes were very modern and delicious.
That’s what I expected from a Modern Chinese restaurant. We order 3 dim-sums, 4 dishes and a bowl of rice for 3 People.the amount of food were a lot than we thought which was good. (so we took away the left over food at the end.)

Awful experience! Caterpillar in my drink! Had dinner there last Thursday, I took me a whole week to have my appetite back! The caterpillar was in my cocktail. Nothing could express my fury! Yuck!

My friend and I came for the high ratings, and my friend nearly swallowed this huge bug when drinking her cocktail. She suffered signifcant mental shock and couldn't eat for days. Never gonna visit again.

David’s is the most consistently wonderful restaurant we visit. Without exception we receive imbeccable service and delicious fresh, flavoursome food in a lovely setting. We love taking friends here for the first time as it never fails to disappoint.

David’s offered a modern, but familiar, version of yum-cha style dumplings in a set course banquet.

Almost all dishes served were delicious, tasty.

My favourite personally would have to be the prawn dumplings - I can confidently say they were one of the best prawn dumplings I’ve tasted.

My least favourite was the duck dumplings. The mince was dry and the sauce overpowered the dumplings, which was a shame because I was most excited for this dish.

The atmosphere makes up for any wrongdoings with the dishes. The restaurant aesthetic and vibe is fantastic.

Overall David’s is a great place to eat and, with a new banquet set, I’ll be more than willing to return.

A quick edit, I would also like to add that the service was amazing. Keep up the good work guys!

A regular at David's Yum Cha sessions. Always more than enough food and plenty of time to fill your tummy. Every dish is incredibly fresh and tasty. And they cater to all dietaries.

We went there to celebrate our anniversary and enjoy an unlimited yum cha for lunch. The service was good, we were impressed by the personal touches and attention from the staff. We felt that sometimes the service could have been more organised and more efficient to deliver the food but they were very polite and always willing to accommodate.

The dumplings were very flavoursome and the chicken ribs were delicious. The prawn and pork dumplings in chilli oil were however a little too thick in texture. We did not like the calamari as much (we did not feel it was the best quality or flavour) and did not think the peking duck pancakes were as balanced in flavour and texture. The spring rolls were more pastry than fillings. The pork belly was a real highlight, absolutely succulent. The Chinese broccoli was surprisingly nice too. Everything felt freshly made. The white chocolate dumplings were a great final touch.

Overall, the concept is a great experience and ideal for a special occasion! Thanks for having us.
