Curry Cafe reviews
66Best, most delicious mango lassi i have ever experienced. Incredible butter chicken and great service also:)
Curry cafe has some of the best Indian cuisine I've ever had. The staff are super friendly too. The guy with the beard that's always there is an absolute dead set legend! Cannot recommend this place enough <3
If you cannot think of anything rice at home, just head over to Curry Cafe Northcote and order coconut rice which I saw a couple of weeks back on specials board, butter chicken and mango lassi. Still feeling famished? Another round of coconut rice, ahloo pratha and a lick pier:). Simply the best. Coconut rice is the best for me. On a sunny and cool day, there are outdoor seats
My Indian work colleague said this has the best and authentic Indian in Melbourne, so off we went.
Parking is a bit tight around the area.
The place was dimely lit providing that sense and feeling that transported you back to a typical Cafe in Mumbai.
Service was good, and wait times was just as good.
Butter chicken - good solid flavour
Saag paneer - I was introduced to this concept and highly rate it.
Garlic naan - fresh and warm.
I'd certainly agree that this is one of the better Indian eateries.
By 630-7, the place was packed on a Wednesday night.
Terrible customer service by the manager with a beard. I went there as a doordash driver and he kept explaining me something that I did not understand at all and he had no intention of doing so either rather was just pushing me out of the store and kept touching me unnecessarily on my shoulder. Never picking up order from here again.
Probably a little more pricey than your average Indian takeaway, but definitely worth it.
This is a gem of a restaurant down on the Westgarth end of High Street.
The food doesn't put a foot wrong with amazing flavours in everything we tried.
Lucky to have this one nearby!
I’ve been going to Curry Cafe with my family for the last 10 years. Every time has been a moment of joy, of family unity; a meal to be cherished. The flavours of the saag paneer, lamb madras, chicken tikka masala, and fish madras have enthralled me and embodied culinary pleasure throughout my formative years.
Now I’ve moved out from my family home, and I’m no longer in the locale. Today I woke up and craved one thing and one thing only - Curry Cafe.
Words cannot begin to describe how this meal made me feel. It was delicious, comfortable, culinary expertise. A tear reached my eye. I want to honestly say that me and my friend, who dined tonight, left in a state that could only be described as ecstasy.
Curry Cafe means a lot to me, and after all this time, it thrills me to know that they still put on a mean meal. I’m so happy. Thanks to the team who delivered such a wonderful experience:) it’s good to be back
Birthday Dinner, we arrived 10 mins before our booking, they moved a table of four to accommodate six of us. After standing at the end of the table in the middle of the restaurant waiting for two chairs my son went outside and brought in two chairs for us to sit at the table. We asked for some clean glasses and wine glasses. They brought us four wine glasses for six people then took our order. We asked for two more wine glasses so we could toast my birthday, after waiting for some time I got and went to the counter to ask for two more glasses. The food came out and it was yummy but not enough rice so we ordered some more. We waited but it never came. I went and paid didn’t ask about the extra rice just wanted to leave. Food was great but left feeling neglected.
Really aggressive waiter (and owner?). If you like being verbally abused and charged for things you didn’t receive go here.
I have been here several times now, and they never disappoint. The food, service and atmosphere always shine.
Amazing food! Staff are friendly. The place is quiet small and can get really noisy and crowded.
Recommending to book a table before hand as they get super busy.
Meal was $69 paid $91 so with surcharge paid over 20 bucks what a joke. Would've been nice to know before hand maybe display a sign or advise customers. Very dissatisfied overall won't be going there again. Topped off with poor customer service and curry is nothing to boast about bread was so dry and stale.
Butter chicken, veggie curry, rice & naan. Brilliant poppadoms (that's important to me) and probably one of the most pleasant Indian meals I've ever had. A return visit is a cert!
Used to love this place.
Ordered delivery tonight. They called us 2 and a half hours later! To say they couldn’t do delivery and if we could pick it up.
The restaurant wasn’t answering their phone so we had no idea if it was coming or not.
They were not apologetic.
Never order delivery. Because who knows if they can and they won’t let you know.
Has seen better days. Curries were as lovey as ever; garlic naan was tough. Very slow, vague service. Wine was undrinkable. When I mentioned it when paying, waiter apologised that it was the end of the keg (wine in a keg? !) - and proceeded to charge me for it. I recommend the takeaway, which seems to be the bulk of their custom now.
The photos of the restaurant (ambience and food, both) look great. Makes it look like a fine dining Indian restaurant. But when you enter, you see folded camping tables and aluminium chairs! Portions are tiny. And the "Indian food" is catered to the typical Australian palate i.e. It is bland and doesn't have the signature Indian flavours. Let's put it this way, my kid, who can't stand spicy food, loved their butter chicken. But my wife and I were left disappointed (oh and it was our anniversary dinner). The wait staff were polite and efficient. The place is let down by its ambience and food. I would not recommend this to anyone expecting your typical Indian curries, made the authentic way.
Wonderful relaxed, elevated atmosphere, you can really tell there's a fantastic attention to details, everything was delivered with such a calm polish. Low lighting, truly fantastic staff, a bloody killer menu, honestly go and eat in - you'll have an amazing time.
Our party of five ladies enjoyed the wines, shared a bunch of different dishes and talked late into the evening. So grateful to have places like this back open to host precious time with people you love!
This used to be one of our favourite places to eat since our kids were little. But after today's takeaway I'll definitely be going elsewhere. The mixed vegetable korma tasted like it was defrosted and the cauliflower and carrot tasted soggy. The goan fish curry was dry. The dhal makhani and the butter chicken were reasonable and saved the meal from being 2 out of 5 stars.
Time and time again a winner for me. Lovely calm service that doesn't feel rushed. Such a wide selection of food and everything we ordered was delicious. I like a simple drinks menu as it really highlights that the food is where it's at.
The food is tasty, service fine, but was a bit taken back by the two a little critters running around - I was ok (rather mice than cockroaches) but two others in party didn’t eat much due to being put off. We didn’t say anything as didn’t want to make a scene. Get a cat - mice are a problem this year everywhere I’m sure.
