College Lawn Hotel reviews
47Fast service, friendly staff quite an amazing beer garden. Everything you could want for after work drinks or a fun Sunday afternoon session. Food is rather good for pub food. Would recommend to pop down to avoid the loud and congested chapel but close enough to kick on if it pleases you.
Wonderful lunch with friends at the College Lawn Hotel on Sunday.
The food was tasty and fresh and we were able to easily order to our table.
Hailey the manager, was extremely friendly and helpful during our booking. Put up with our many questions with class.
Thankyou to Hailey and the staff today for a lovely time. We will be back.
Lovely beer garden especially on a warm sunny day. Prosecco was good. Pan fried haloumi snack was just right. Will try and book to go for Sunday lunch soon
Fantastic pub in Prahran. They do a mean Sunday lunch and are great for sporting events. Have had lots of good food, drinks and times here.
What a great pub in Prahran! The portions were very generous for the price. The food was delicious, I would recommend the parma or Steak sanga. Drinks were cold and poured correctly. Service was fast and accurate, given we went during their January half price timeframe. The beer garden outdoor area had a lovely atmosphere with outdoor TVs showing live sports. Different seating options as well (i.e. Booths, picnic style tables, high tables and bar stools, as well as more formal dining inside). The place itself is quite big so great for functions! I will definitely be back.
Always amazing service at the lawn and very welcoming, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend to friends and family!
The food was a little expensive and not fantastic quality. Nice layout though, and the outdoor seating area looked nice. Went with a group of 10 for lunch and the waitress got a bit confused with the orders - we ended up with 2 people getting their meal about 20 minutes after everyone else.
Nice cosy pub. Lovely food as well and they stock gluten free beer. Missed out on giving them 5 stars as they didn't have beer stored at room temperature. Lovely place.
The College Lawn Hotel is a really nice venue. The outdoor area is beautiful in the sun on a clear day, there is a good range of seating, some well sheltered from the sun and some where you can catch some rays. Variety of beers/ciders on tap is fairly standard for Melbourne- Furphy is the "basic" beer on tap here if you were curious. Parmas are excellent, not cheap but a generous size with a nice size chips and salad.
Has been a popular suburban pub for generations. Food average, service average, place can get over crowded, as it's close to train station, Chapel Street and has a great beer garden. Beer prices on the high dide
Great meals, winner chicken Parma is supfab, 15 buck bargain and a nice venue in a nice areas. More sauce on the parmas and y'all get 5, staff are great too
Good food and a very pleasant waitress. I didn't like the bouncer on the door. That seemed a bit excessive.
I love the smoke free beer garden these days. I can always live without the knuckle draggers of Jurassic Park at the TAB bar - but the foods pretty tasty and a good place to hang with friends
Always a fantastic venue to watch sport. Get here early for any international rugby match. The atmosphere is tremendous and the crowd appreciative of the sport. The staff do an excellent job at serving a crowd. We also come here for Super Rugby matches, and it's a lot quieter.
If you want a meal, be sure you book a table on steak night, else you are generally OK just to turn up.
Organised my partner’s 40th birthday lunch at CLH yesterday as he would like to enjoy the game of footy before work. Surprisingly it was quite empty on a Saturday afternoon for CLH. Trouble started when I asked about the risotto and was told that they did not have it despite being advised that they have just launched a new menu recently. We ended up ordering the Steak Pie with broccolini and mashed potatoes and an entree of calamari. The mashed potatoes were bland and chunky; it was not even seasoned! I have tried Coles pre-made mashed potatoes, even that had more flavours! Appalling I must say! The meat in the pie was tough and not enjoyable at all. As for calamari, they were definitely not the freshest. Lastly, thought of finishing off the birthday lunch with something sweet. Ordered the pancakes - they were tough as rocks; the butterscotch sauce did not even remotely taste of butterscotch; the saving grace was just the good ol’ vanilla icecream! Overall, a very disappointing birthday experience.
PS: wait staff was friendly and on point - won’t fault it at all! When paying with my credit card, I was not advised of the surcharge. It was not displayed on the menu, website or anywhere in the venue. Not much but would be nice to be notified about the additional cost.
I stayed here a few nights, and wouldn't necessarily recommend it for anything other than an overnight layover in Melbourne. The noise from the street and pub downstairs continues until the wee hours, the mattresses are more spring than anything else, there is no hot water, and the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. The price is on the cheap end for hostels available in Melbourne, and the surrounding area was one of my favorite parts of the city. Easy access to public transportation, food, and groceries, and if you like walking, the NGV is only 45 minutes away.
Great spot for afternoon drinks, with some really great cocktails. The food was pretty good, portions were much larger than expected. We had the chicken parm and kangaroo salad which were both fairly good. I would definitely return.
Food servings are quite large & really delicious (I love the burrito). For being in the heart of Prahran it is great value for money too. The beer garden has a great atmosphere once it hits 5pm on a Friday. On a hot day they have spray fans as well on the roof. Staff are friendly & attentive as well.
This place is my workplace's go to pub dining experience. It's walking distance from the Alfred which makes organising functions more convenient; hence better turn outs. Food is very affordable and the aesthetic upgrades over the years are now really showing. Modern sleek interior and trendy beer garden vibes outside. Lively atmosphere and pleasant crowd and staff.
The Tandoori Parma I tried was absolutely divine, such a great infusion of cultures and flavour. I also rather enjoyed the strong iced coffee that was made for me by the handsome bartender which was perfect as I had night shift ahead of the then Christmas Staff dinner we booked that evening. Their cocktails are also very good, forgot the name of the pink one I featured in the review but remembered chugging it down like the addictive lolly water or acted as at least for me haha.
All in all, never had a bad meal here over the years. I recommend this pub for functions of all sorts, you should probably call ahead if going with a bunch of work mates as the place does tend to fill up during the lovely hours.
Waiting to get served for drinks took forever & meal was very average. Prices charged for alcohol were over the top.
