So overrated. Food is good but so many cheaper and just as tasty options nearby. $20 for two iced coffees is highway robbery. If you enjoy the faux rusticity of an instagrammable industrial conversion, knock yourself out.

Came in for a coffee.

No one to greet at the door.
All staff seemed to busy speaking amongst themselves.

I went to the counter and ordered and took a seat.

It seemed that service levels this morning were very low. 5 people behind bar, 3 people on floor and very bad service.

Owners Saturday rates should expect the minimum.

Disappointed

Starting 5 days off with amazing coffee. Fantastic service by all staff. Management warm and friendly. Feels like a 2nd home (Carlos)

As another Barista in the industry. I feel I can definitely report on the bad attitude by what I assume was the female manager. Rude from the start. Then as we were saying goodbye to our friends at a table as we were about to leave. Rudely told “ if you’re just standing around you need to leave”. Absolutely disgusted. As a barista of 12 years in the hospitality industry. That is NOT a way to treat any customers who have been polite to you the whole time. You CAN actually ask nicely. I didn’t even want to give a 1 star tbh you don’t deserve that even. Go back to basic training of your staff & a good lesson on politeness. It’s desperately needed by one employee there especially. There was at least 20 in our group spread out throughout the morning giving you plenty of business. Nobody was impressed and dare say we will NOT be back. Judging by other reviews we’re not the only ones

I had heard the coffee was special so had my normal flat white. Sorry, what a dud, weak and insipid. There are so many other better options nearby

$13.59 for 2 iced soy lattes. Over $5 for a regular coffee is steep but 6.70? That's just a rip off

Very cool cafe design. The food and drinks thankfully live up to the image. Staff were lovely as well

Love Code Black coffee and this is their mothership. Loads of seating available inside in the large warehouse space, and seating outside too.
Wonderful service, amazing food & coffee, and fantastic atmosphere - not many cafes can offer the perfect Trifecta!
They also accept bookings online, perfect for busy times.

Brunswick institution. House roasted beans, good service and always exciting menu. Plenty of space to safely order lockdown takeaways too.

Such an iconic coffee shop with damn good coffee. The staff are so friendly and quick to serve, line moves quickly and the kitchen has a great menu.

Say what! Just look at the place! Coffee heaven, single origins from the best coffee growing countries in the world, a Colombian said it!

Went for breakfast and the staffs there were really kind as we had our fur babies with us. The menemen was delicious!

Yum! I met a friend here for brunch; my first visit to Code Black. The service was impeccable; friendly, attentive, helpful. I had the most delicious charred zucchini and green rice salad, with slow cooked lamb. Such a generous serve that I took half home. The lamb was soft & succulent but the salad was the absolute star. (Can I have the recipe please?). I would go back in a flash

Last time when I arrived here around 4pm, I couldn’t had the food. Because the kitchen was closed at that time. So I visited here before working. It was my first House crumpet! It’s tasty!

Great place to go with friends for a brunch. I had the Columbian batch brew and me and my partner shared a potato rosti thing with crab and peas. It was delicious.
The staff are lovely and efficient and it's also a good place to go with a pram or dog.

Great place, friendly staff-coffee was excellent, and the Hot Chocolate was served in a very novel way, my son said it was delicious

Fantastic coffee! The barista had made me a great cup of latte. IMO that was the best latte I ever had, well done to the small Asian barista!

Looking for the same experience at the South Melbourne Market outlet but it was disappointing. No love and soul put into the coffee.

Delicious coffee! Busy on weekends- if you want to sit and have a coffee you may have to wait. Also sell beans, ground coffee and hot chocolate.

Having travelled for an hour to get to ‘Melbourne’s best coffee’ I was bitterly disappointed to be served a raw egg on my pork belly sandwich!
After complaining to the manager about the literally raw egg I was told ‘that’s the way we serve eggs! ’ Never have I heard such lame excuses for poor food prep!
When I asked for it to be removed from the bill I was told, “no, I can remake it or offer you something else. ” By which point I was already at the stage of zero appetite. I asked for the manager and was informed I was already dealing with him. I told him I’d be walking out and not paying for my food. Was happy to pay for the rest of the meal but not the inedible egg dish. Was again told that that wouldn’t be possible. As you can imagine, having an argument in an eatery in front of the public wasn’t the most professional way to handle things.
Eventually the manager did remove the item from the bill but by which point the damage was done.
The coffee was very good however the service and food mean I’ll never set foot in there again!

So disappointing.
