Clayton Chettinad Restaurent reviews
34You get tasty food for reasonable price. Would recommend going here if you want to have tasty South Indian spicy Food.
This rating is purely based on the vada and coconut chutney. The vada is crispy, fresh, and tasty. For me personally, it's the best vada in town.
Dosas are out of this world at this classic canteen-family-style spot off the main drag. It was packed with locals when we arrived so we knew we fell across a good one.
Choose from a selection of curries and biryani dishes. Highly recommend the spicy eggplant masala with juicy chunks of eggplant that soak up the heat of the curry. Lamb dosa and paneer Masala dosa were amazing. Didn’t get the gulab jamun to finish but will be back don’t you worry.
They don’t do it like this in the city proper. Fed 4 of us for under $20 each.
Since I moved to Australia in 2018 I've missed my grand mother's and home made meals! Went there yesterday 27 th of november and had the buffet! I was basically in tears after tasting those food and remembered my home! I've never tasted this much of tasty food since I've moved country's!
Keep up the good work!
Bless you and thank you brother Charles
Amazing food, specially South Indian and great hospitality. Must try place in Clayton and with great buffet options.
Ordered a chicken biryani and all they gave me was cooked with old cold rice no spice it wasnt cooked like a biryani. Would never go back there
Went for a quick bite. The place was full but didn’t look very clean. We just grabbed some ulundu wadey and left. No chutney given with the wadey.
Long waiting time.
Poor hygiene.
Disorganised
Food was very Cold.
Starters came after main meals
Dirty place! Literally don't know how they passed the food hygiene test. Also the prices are changed, they are a scam artist of a restaurant
Love the varieties, very unique. Paya and brain masala are amazing. Very friendly staff. Travelled from Narre warren but worth the ride.
Definitely go for the buffet! All you can eat and they usually have 6 or so curries (they mix them up every time) with a variety of meats (fish, goat, chicken, beef) also beautiful vegetarian curries. Multiple type of rice and breads (the Prata is great!) Along with starters and dessert. Oh also dips and sauces. The staff are also very friendly so definitely give it a visit
Food is excellent and always served in generous quantities. Their buffet options are great value for money. The service is extremely hospitable and friendly. Would highly recommend this restaurant for home functions and everyday meals.
I had had a long day at work. On my way home I stopped at Clayton chittinad restaurant. I only ordered 4 plain rottis. After 20 minutes of waiting I asked one of the workers why it was taking so long and he went inside the kitchen to ask how long it was gonna take, they didn't realise I knew Tamil, I could hear the kitchen staff talking in Tamil saying it'll take as long as it take. 25 minutes passed and I still didnt get my rotti. I walked off. Pretty rude kitchen staff, will never step foot in there again.
I have spent half my childhood in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. This restaurant here, all the way in Australia, reminds me of the authentic and delicious south Indian food I used to have back then. Would totally recommend.
The worst quality Goat biryani and Chettinad chicken I ever had in my life. I probably will report to food authorities as it was not only the quality that was problematic but safety of its consumers is at risk too.
Sunday buffets are the best! The biriyani and chicken 65 are mind blowing. Authentic spicy South Indian food. Doesn’t disappoint at all! Ambiance could be better. But if you’re there for the taste, you’ll be one happy customer
I ordered a takeaway. The food was so delicious. Chicken biryani and kothu parotta was the best. I could say so far the best Tamil Nadu biryani and kothu in Melbourne.
We had the chettinad veg curry which was not that great. It tasted of curry more than Chettinad flavour. Not close to chettinad I would say. Their poratta (wheat bread) was decent. This cuisine uses a lot peppers so if you’re not up to a spicy style then best to request them to mellow it down.
"Best quality and variety of food made in a very authentic and traditional south Indian way. The food is very delicious reasonably priced I would highly recommend this place, very friendly service"
Went there for the first time last night. Great food, great service, very reasonably priced. Will definitely go back.
