Cinema Nova

A little different than your chain cinema (A bit more nostalgic and always a few different/additional movies available).

Jasmine on the counter was terrible and rude, would not serve me popcorn. What a joke.

Cinema itself was dirty and although having a bar inside I do not feel it provides a better experience than any other of the standard chains.

I love Nova Cinema but was really peeved recently when we had to sit through television advertisements before the movie. Why do we have to be blasted by ads that I would normally mute while watching telly at home?

Probably the go-to cinema for foreign and arthouse films. Some of their cinema screens are small but the experience is great, especially when you're surrounded by film-goers who take their cinema-viewing experience seriously.

Maybe it's because I just love going to the movies but I really like Nova. They have a bar and you can take your drinks in to the cinema. Monday's are super cheap too. $7-$10 depending on the time.

Love going to the movies at Nova. Not too crowded, great views even from the side and the sound is good too. And located in the best place to eat - Lygon St.

Favourite local cinema. Seats are good and so are the screens. Very intimate setting too with small theatres

Nova is great with movies from all over the world played regularly, the candy bar also gives you the opportunity to be served beer and wine during the show.

Lots of Small theatres located above the Woolworth supermarket and cafe. Interesting cinema showing mainstream movies as well as movies not represented by the mainstream cinemas. Quite few events are held here. There is a basement parking.

5 stars because we love cinema nova. 1 star for the awful guy running the car park. Guys if you have any sway over what happens down there put your 2 cents in (literally cos its cash only lol) and get that carpark into 2018 and get rid of that nasty pasty. He always ruins a good night with his awful attitude and pretending he cannot reach your phone/money. Always has something nasty to say. Genuinely hates that cinema nova patrons get a discount.

My favorite cinema in Melbourne. Many film choices, with a bar that actually trusts patrons to take their drink into the film.

Deluxe theatre not up to the standard of other gold class cinemas. Asked to wait in a general seating area and forgotten abou, had to ask as the movie was due to start. When seated everyone waited probably half an hour for orders to be taken by one attendee. Finally trailer started only to be stopped so everyone's drinks could be brought in. Food very poor

This cinema is old, tired and its staff admit that it has had a mice plague for the last two years. I had a mouse run over my leg when I went to see a movie there in August. I have not been back since. The staff and management were nonchalant about my experience and told me that the risk of coming into contact with a mouse is high but they didn’t need to patrons about this risk as they would lose business! Great treatment of customers. The attitude of management was pretty poor and although they admitted that the place could do with a major upgrade and that this could eliminate the mouse threat, they don’t intend to do it while they can still make money from hapless and ignorant customers. My advice: don’t go. Having a mouse run across you is really unpleasant and there is a hygiene risk from the food served there as a result of the mouse plague.

Nova cinema is one of the signature of my neighbourhood. All the movie here are really meaningful and artistic, completely different from the archetypical movies in the popular market. We already have enough fast food and fast fashion, I would like my weekend night really slow and memorable with my love one and friends. I felt really lucky when this movie theatres really near my house and a part of my life.

Great spot to catch a film. As always enjoy going to the Nova. Great wine, wine whilst watching a film, wine on the terrace overlooking lygon St!

Went to see a movie here in their “Deluxe” cinema. This place is in desperate need of refurbishment. It may be an independent and iconic cinema but you’re far better off going to Village or Hoyts sadly if you want value for money, comfortable seats that actually recline, anything other than cheap wine and beer, ordinary food and terrible AV. And all for the same price as Gold Class or Lux. Sorry Nova, can’t give you anything above one star.

Where else to go for a good independent art movie with a good Italian pasta or yummy Italian dessert pre movie just across the road or downstairs? Thank you Nova for providing this platform for people enjoying art movies.

Great cinema with so much character. The staff are genuinely nice, the popcorn is tasty, the choc tops are on point. Cheap Mondays. Everything about Nova is good.

Best cinema in Melbourne! Have been coming here for almost 20 years. Has so much character and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The only thing that could make it better would be to bring back the Vegemite choc top ;)
