Ciao Mamma! reviews
68Just superb! 6 stars if I could. My wife and mate are celiac and were in absolute heaven! Great staff and owners all very jovial and friendly. Highly recommended. We'll be back (even though it's a 20km drive across the city)
So I ordered the mushroom pasta and the caprese salad and my husband ordered the carbonara pasta. The pasta tasted fantastic, however, we never received the caprese salad.
The pasta portions were tiny. Usually I’m ok for fine dining portions but the carbonara serving was a kid portion size and it cost $25 for the plate which was extremely overpriced for what it was. Pasta was nice, however, it’s not worth the price you pay.
This place left a foul taste in my mouth and it wasn't all because of the food. I've never left a negative food review on here before but this place deserves it.
After waiting 55 minutes post-FINISHING our entrees, my partner and I politely asked how far away our meals (2 pastas) were, to which the older woman at the front of house responded in multiple passive aggressive ways. One of which takes the cake being "do you want some bread incase you faint" (and no I'm not joking). Besides being mocked without provocation infront of other customers and waiting almost an hour for our food, the food was so underwhelming and way too salty! And to top it off super overpriced for the quality.
Though the other waiters were lovely and apologised to my partner and I for being spoken to in that way and for the long wait.
Nonetheless, no customer should be treated that way. My advice is remove her from the front of house.and maybe place her at the back washing dishes. She just doesn't know how to speak to people
Casual Italian dining at its finest! Great atmosphere and service with a focused menu. The arancini was a standout! Both pastas were incredible, with an explosion of flavours dancing around my taste buds. The gnocchi was like biting into a cloud, it just melted in my mouth. The carbonara was also delicious however the pasta was a little too hard for my liking but that’s just a personal preference. Overall still an amazing dining experience and will definitely be coming back!
If you’re looking for a no fuss and delicious authentic Italian cuisine, then this is the place for you.
Amazing food, fresh made high quality pasta, really yummy! Also our waiter Sarah was super lovely, would recommend going here
I love Ciao Mammas! I’ve been going there since it opened. Staff are constantly welcoming and service is great.
The home made pasta sauces hit the spot and the fresh decor of this restaurant makes dining there extremely enjoyable.
I can’t leave there without having one of their Cafe Cremas!
Extremely Poor!
One word to best describe the Food, Service and Ambience - Bland!
Expected a generous portion of traditional home style italian cooking, what else would you expect with a name "Ciao Mamma", but what I got was an overly priced tiny entree size bowl of rubbery Tagliatelle with a tastless dry Lamb Rague sauce for $26.00! Tasted one strand of the pasta and a piece of lamb and sent it back. No apology, no reasoning and not even an option of another meal and still charged full price for it. Obviously, not a care in the world for customer satisfaction or continuous patronage. What a disgrace!
Also $14.00 for an under poured glass of Barossa shiraz and $14 00, for a cup not even a plate of tiramissu, what a joke!
Prices you would expect in a la carte dining restaurant, not from a casual restaurant in the side street of Brunswick.
Extremely dissapointing experience and left still feeling hungry!
Delicious pasta. I foolishly got a parma once because I was desperate for one out of lockdown and it was good but it didn't quite hit the spot you want a parma to. Still five stars for the pasta, it's obviously the reason to go here.
Lovely service and atmosphere, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Generous managerthank you Sarah for your hospitality! Would definitely recommend coming here the pasta was excellent and was impressed by the coeliac accreditation.
I was underwhelmed with the service, food and value for money.
We took part in the just feed me special which was three shared courses for 50 dollars pp on the table.we wanted to go crazy so we opted for the additional $10 pp for extra calamari as well.
Unfortunately there were 10 of us, we were barely satisfied with the amount of food. Usually with these specials I would except not to be worried about other member of the table having there fair share.
The calamari and desserts were beautiful, but the pasta was hard, and the sauces that i could make better at home.
On the service we were unattended for some time at the start of our service not having our drinks order taken until we ate our starters.
But from mains being served the service improved.
Very lovely staff, we were served by someone who said it was one of their first shifts and she was so kind and helpful. The food was also very very nice, a little bit on the smaller side, but that's okay because the entrees and desserts were also extremely nice, so I suggest getting one of each. Very accommodating for my coeliac (gluten free) partner which is very much appreciated as it can be so difficult at times to find somewhere we can all eat and still enjoy.
The food was great and the staff friendly. I had the chips, GF Amatriciana pasta and Almond cake. Definitely recommend. The only down side was we waited for 30+mins for the mains and felt rushed at the end as its a 90mins booking.
I thought it was great. The food was really good authentic Italian. Probably the best gluten free I've had, The service was great and the owner was really friendly. We will be coming back
Arancini balls are to die for - great atmosphere - gorgeous setting - I felt like I was in Italy
Hands down best gluten free pasta I’ve had, however the portion size was a little small. Lovely atmosphere!
Ordered take away last night and was disappointed with the quality and service received. I was charged $9 for 2 pieces of bread never received and was also told the food would take 30min to be ready and had to wait for another 30min upon arrival. The portion sizes were adequately smaller than previously received and the taste was extremely bland and below average.
Updated review: Received a call from the Nic off a private number, who advised the $9 was for the gluten free gnocchi and that I didn't read the menu properly when ordering. Nic apologised for the experience then continued to state how disappointed he was in me writing a negative review and being a keyboard warrior. Calling a customer to verbally abuse and intimidate them on their opinion/experience is absolutely appalling. I won't be returning here again and I would not recommend. I do not wish to be contacted again by anyone from Ciao Mamma.
Took my mother to Ciao Mamma for her birthday, we both ordered pastas.
Our dishes came out and all we could taste was salt. The pasta was undercooked and chewy.
The owner (or manager) came out and told us that is al dente, and that is how they eat pasta in Italy.
I could've laughed in his face, I've been to Italy three times and my husband is Italian
That is NOT how they eat pasta in Italy!
It was raw and tasted like pure salt.
The drinks were very nice, however dispite us having only 2 mouth fulls of our lunch before sending it back, we were still charged for the whole meal.
$109 worth.
And we stopped in at McDonald's for a quarter pounder on the way home
Very disappointed!
This was a disappointing takeaway. We had the gnocchi and carbonara tagliatelle. We went to pick it up and it was 10 mins from restaurant to home. We ate straight away and it was cold. The portions were small, similar to entree size and salty. The pasta was al dente to the point of being uncooked. The gnocchi was average.
So happy to discover Ciao Mamma. We ordered the Fathers Day Box, it came with salami, cheeses, lasagna, tiramisu, and a bottle of Chianti. Everybody at our table loved it. Such good value and beautiful quality food. How lucky were we?
For the costs we would expect a larger serving then half a container and more then 3 pieces of meat in a lamb ragu.
