Chumanchu reviews
66Service was amazing, food was also delicious. We ordered wagyu pho, com tam, braised pork. Very impressed with com tam, usually it would be pork as traditional viet dish, but I love their creative way to satisfy variety meat lover, they used Lamb, tastes great! Def would come back.
The last thing you want is the trainee chef cooking the day you dine. Two mains were left uneaten they were so unpleasant.
Despite all the good things I had heard about Chumanchu from friends, lunch for my party of three was huge disappointment.
The premises are grotty. The large potted palm next to our table died at least three years ago and the large vase of flowers at the centre of the room was filled with murky green foul water and dead blooms. In a magazine rack nearby was a May 2023 newspaper.
I’m sorry. I just don’t see the attraction.
Delicious Vietnamese food, bit of an odd location and vibe but overall great traditional food
Lovely restaurant in a local suburban shopping precinct. Food was delicious. Wait staff were friendly and attentive. Great ambience.
OMG - this place has hands down the best Pho I have had in my life. We also had a curry and calamari but the beef pho was just yum, yummy, yummiest ever. Can’t wait to go back!
Been here a few times to just see if there was consistency and there sure is. My favourite are the mussels.the aromatics in the broth are amazing and the mussels are soft and plump. I always order the Banh Xeo (Vietnamese pancakes) but everything else I had was delicious. Completely reccommend!
Fantastic Vietnamese meal, fresh and tasty. Great restaurant ambiance and decor with attentive staff and reasonably priced. We’ll be back!
Horrible experience. Was not busy on a Saturday lunch, forced to sit in a smal 2 seater at the back despite plenty of space and asked for a bigger table. Waited 40 min for a Pad Thai and Nasi goreng which never arrived.had to eventually leave when others were served ahead of us, and the staff were unapologetic at all
6 years we've been going here. Quality food, never disappointed. Will drive across town to eat here.
This review is coming from a Vietnamese perspective:
It's not entirely Vietnamese because on the menu it featured Nasi Goreng and Mee Goreng which is actually Malaysian. But the Vietnamese food I had was quite authentic. I highly recommend the "Banh xeo" dish. It was delicious and flavoursome and thumbs up to the nuoc mam sauce too. Although, I am used to more lettuce and greens to go with banh xeo normally so I was disappointed to see there was lack of it. But I'm sure if you request more, they'd be happy to. I also recommend salt and pepper squid and Vietnamese Coleslaw salad - "goi".
I was a bit surprised that they offered us forks to begin with. I would have expected chopsticks at least.
The environment was family and couple orientated and I really liked the decor.
I'm yet to try more of the menu but I'd stick to the traditional Vietnamese dishes.
Wagyu beef pho was a very generous serving and the broth was fresh. Highly recommend
Attended this restaurant last minute and without a booking. Staff were able to accommodate us even though they were booked out, with a small round table in front of the coffee machine and counter. Picture indicates how busy it was at the time. Decor and ambience of the restaurant were very nice. Music was playing in the background. Meals on the menu were ample and the ingredients of each sufficient. Ample time was given for us to decide on what we wanted to order and time taken for our meals to arrive reasonable. Food served was authentic and very tasty. The seafood dish I had, had partially shelled prawns in it however I wasn't given a bowl for the shell waste. Reason this restaurant wasn't given 5 stars was due to the staff not being as friendly as I expected they should. Of course this was my personal opinion as all reviews are and there may have been a reason for this. I would give this restaurant a second try as the food and ambience were great. We had 2 main meals with a glass of red and a beer. Bill total was $69. Thought meals were slightly overpriced given it was Vietnamese food. Drink prices appeared to be normal.
Comfy place with a very kind aunty and staffs. Plenty of Asian foods served in a big portion and ofcourse it's yummyyum
Great Customer service, food was fresh and the place has a really chill vibe. Definately coming back
Everything is so so so clean here! Baby kids friendly too. The nasi goreng is good, Laksa was a little different than expected.
Been here several times now. Great coffee and uncomplicated food. Service is always good as is the spacious, nicely fitted out venue.
Best local restaurant, consistently fresh and amazing. Too cheap though - put up your prices chuman!
Worst Massaman Beef and Coconut Rice I have ever had. They put a whole heap of vegetables in so they don't have to put much beef in it. Tasted too sweet and wasn't authentic enough for me. The coconut rice was not coconut rice. I've had coconut rice cooked properly and it is beautiful. They think that steamed jasmine rice with coconut cream poured on top is coconut rice. It was disgusting, who does this! Never ever going back there again and would not recommend going to Chumanchu if you want Vietnamese/Thai cuisine.
#halal suitable
We just turned-up to this place to satisfy our Vietnamese cravings and gald we did. First of all, the service is top notch. The food is yum. We ordered egg plant, dumplings and pad thai. Portions are big and they serve halal suitable. Look no further if you are into authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
This would have to be one of the best restaurants in the northern suburbs. Their food is consistently incredible. They can accommodate intimate dinning to families and large groups. Wonderful people and service. Their chicken chani is the bomb.
Reasonable food with polite but poor service. The mains were slow and didn't come out together.
