Chargrill Charlie's Malvern

I had the Portuguese wrap combo. The bread roll was so fresh and the chicken was full of flavour. Piri Piri sauce was amazing.
My visit was around lunch time and it was too busy. The staff were just lovely.

We read about Chargrill Charlie's through Broadsheet. Stepping into the store for dinner, the delicious smell of chicken was making my mouth water. There is parking along the street and round the corner. If you're looking to dine in, they have several tables inside and 2 outside.

The menu has a good variety for chicken and sides - had a little difficulty deciding since everything looked good. They serve not only 3 kinds of chicken - chargrilled, Portugese and one with thick sauce over the top, but they also do salmon and lamb for those not in the mood for poultry. I think they had 4 or 5 different salads, which weren't your run of the mill cous cous and peas and they had homemade wedges, shoestring fries, honey mustard roasted veggies, fried rice. I'm sure there were more sides I've forgotten to list but the point is you have options if you are looking for sides. I was very tempted to consider their roll selection but since there was a few of us, we opted to share.

We ordered a variety of chicken. All of them were juicy and tender. Very flavourful. I'm a big cauliflower and cheese fan so I was really pleased to get that. If you're wondering about the strange way the chicken is served in the photo I uploaded, it was because it was cut up on our request for easy sharing. For three of us, the bill came to just under $50, which I thought was good considering the portion size and the fact we were dining out.

For a Monday evening, there was a steady stream of customers but we didn't have to wait long at all. We were served by Millie (Milly?), who was super friendly and lovely. She was very patient answering questions. Millie made our experience at Chargrilled Charlie's just that extra bit wonderful.

I would definitely return for the delicious chicken, great service and reasonable pricing.

Came here on a Friday night to get some takeaway dinner, the shop was busy, had people wandering around everywhere but there were a lot of staff waiting to take your order. The options are abundant for a charcoal chicken shop, they have a range of different sides like fried rice, roast vegetables, as well as salads like avocado & kale, Caesar, Greek, coleslaw and even a Japanese coleslaw. We got a 1/4 chicken, chips and a schnitzel but unfortunately the chicken and schnitzel was dry. Not worth the hype so we won’t be returning.

UPDATE: We've been back 3 times since the original review below and each time the food has gone downhill. Today hubby had the roast lamb meal with Greek salad, pumpkin and chips. The lamb was tasteless and a much smaller serving compared to the previous times, it came with a very tasteless Greek salad, roast pumpkin and chips that were ok. I ordered the Thai chicken salad, what I was served was a bland/dry shredded cabbage and carrot topped with dry/burnt shredded chicken that looked like yesterday's leftovers drenched in some sort of dark Thai sauce. I couldn't chew the chicken so I returned it and asked for a small fried rice instead thinking it would be better but it too was just some boiled rice, grated raw carrot, a few peas and some tiny pieces of fried egg.unfortunately after this we won't be returning.

Awesome selection of hot chicken (plain and spicey) hot sides looked and tasted so good and cold salads were great too, chips and wedges were.something for everyone even the kids and fussy teenagers!
Great addition to Glenferrie Rd will definately be going back. Keep up the good work

Decided to try as it was busy and new. The wide selection was very appealing, and the prices affordable.
Our food was quite tasty, but was definitely hindered by sitting under a heater for a while.
The main reason for my loss of star though is that the place had zero air circulation (let alone air conditioning). It was boiling, made me feel terrible for the staff. I could barely spend the 5/10 minutes waiting to order let alone work an entire shift.
Will visit again in the future and hopefully it improves.

Not too bad. Some feedback though. Wanted to get a chicken and salad for family. Girl told me I could only get Chicken with salad and chips. I didn't want chips, so she said she could put two salads in the one serving container instead of having chips.

Doing this cost me nearly $10 more than if I purchased chips and salad with the chicken. Thought that was a bit ridiculous to pay $46!

A little chaotic inside, didn’t know who was in line and who was waiting for their order. Turns out it’s a ticketing system, it’s placed on the left hand side rather than front and centre like at the Deli.
Got the chicken roll for $11.90 or something, it was okay but nothing special

A new and welcome addition to Glenferrie Road, Malvern. Chargrill Charlie’s is bursting with a huge menu and so many options. You’ll want to try everything. They had many staff members all on board learning the ropes so be patient as this place is new.

We enjoyed a classic quarter chicken, chips plus salads and chicken schnitzel (which could have been a little thicker cut) - both very good. Will go again!
