Caterina and her restaurant together are second to none. I highly recommend this underground haven for business lunches and those for pleasure too.
One of the best Restaurants I have eaten at.
Great food, staff excellent, wine great.
Will definitely be eating here again.
I went to this outstanding restaurant 2 weeks ago for the first time after hearing about it for many years and it exceeded my expectations. From the outside you’re unsure what’s inside but I found terrific, extremely helpful and very friendly waiters, excellent wine list and the food was superb! I even paid the bill for two of my colleagues I’ll definitely be back as I’d love to try some of the other delicious sounding menu items. Thank you for a great experience!
Absolutely fabulous. Staff were wonderful from the initial phone call to book down to the moment we left after a very long lunch. The food was truely amazing, couldn’t fault any of the dishes, and we ate a lot. This is whole package, food, service & ambiance, will most definitely be returning.
The food was pretty amazing. It was a full-on sit down fine dining experience as far as I was concerned. A crazy wine list that we left untouched. The venue is noisy but that was probably just us. Would go back but with a smaller group that would appreciate good food
Simply amazing. The decor, the service, the food & the host. Open Monday to Fridays for lunch, they appeal to more then just the suits. This is Italian at it finest.
Fully encouraged to embrace the long lunch, we did, We pretty much ate our way through the entrees, sharing as we went, and added a couple of specials too. Unfortunately that didn’t leave much room for mains, but we had the goat and weren’t disappointed.
An extensive drinks menu, including some special Italian beers to try.
Cannot wait to go back, thank you for a memorable lunch, a perfect way to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Excellent lunchtime venue Good service Great atmosphere and good food A Melbourne institution that everyone should enjoy at least once
Have been isolating for two years and wanted to have a special lunch with some friends to celebrate our coming out again. We were not disappointed. The service was excellent with food just amazing. Caterina a wonderful host and staff friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I will be back very soon to experience once again a wonderful and unrushed lunch.
Great food but none of that can make up for the rude service that we received. Terrible attitude - from manager to wait staff, when we turned up 15 minutes late (delay due to meeting from work) for our group lunch. Told that there would not be enough time for service for our 2-hour session and in the end we actually left half an hour early. All that berating and sour faces were uncalled for. Got cut off abruptly during ordering as apparently waitstaff had a particular order she wanted us to follow through. I swear within that an hour and a bit session, there was no way we could have gone through 5 large bottles of San Pellegrino - still the bill came with $75 dollars for sparkling water. Sneaky.
Well, there are hundreds of great and memorable Italian restaurants in Melbourne and this is not one of them.
It was amazing!
Great food, perfect temperature, garnished very well and tasting incredible. Highly recommended ️
OMG. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience. The service. The ambience. The food. The chat with Caterina. Caterina’s mums grappa. I felt like I was part of the family instead of a patron. Best restaurant experience for a number of years.
This is the second time I have had the pleasure of dining at Caterinas. The place itself is like a museum of eclectic pieces of art. Outside of Italy this is the only “real” Italian restaurant I have ever found. Caterina herself is an excellent host and you can hear the passion she has for her art and her food in her voice. I could actually go to this place and get her to take me around to her art pieces and listen to the story of what they are and how she acquired them.
Then there is the food, what can I say simply superb. I’m from Brisbane I come down regularly to visit my daughter, this will now be our place.
If you have not had the pleasure of dining at Caterinas, do it soon. Oh yea, they only do lunch.
I understand the hype - Caterina’s is amazing. I went for a solo lunch the other day and enjoyed a glass of white, some sautéed green beans (which were delicious thanks to lemon and breadcrumbs) and an incredible vegetarian mezzaluna with walnut sauce. I ordered the starter size which was substantial enough for lunch (in my opinion).
My only criticisms were that service was a bit slow which wouldn’t normally matter except that I was on a limited lunch break - all in, I was there for nearly 2 hours as I had to wait a bit to take my order. The bread complimentary bread roll I received was also pretty hard but maybe it was meant to be? Otherwise everything was great and I can’t wait to go back.
Caterina her staff and of course the food was absolutely amazing.
If you didn’t know you could been dining in Rome!
If you haven’t been it is a must.
A lovely place for an unforgettable dining experience. The staff are polite and the service is exceptional. The food was excellent. Highly recommended. I must mention the coffee. A beautiful silky brew that complements the biscuits served.
Caterina and her team are incredible. The finest ingredients, a team of dedicated chefs. Service and ambiance is perfection.
Delicious lunch as always, super friendly and professional. I ordered off the specials this time, utterly divine
An Institution for Italian fine dining in Melbourne for lunch, its a destination for Melbourne restaurateurs and hospitality professionals as well as lawyers, Judges and business owners from the CBD.
Best place to bring (and to impress) special guests for a great lunch, the service is impeccable as a restaurant shoul offer.
