Captain Baxter St Kilda Beach Restaurant & Bar

I’d go as far to say it’s the best bar in Melbourne! Fantastic drinks, good vibes and plenty of seating and space - you don’t feel like you’re crammed into a bar where you can’t hear yourself think! Beautiful views of the ocean and the staff are really nice. Didn’t try the food but it looks good!

I decided to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends (10) at the last minute, which isn’t smart considering it is in mid December.

I e-mailed the CB team and they got back to me straight away with dates and times that were available. Communication was easy (via e-mail) and I always got quick responses which was great.

The process was extremely easy and Amy & Ella, who helped organise the event, were lovely!

Everything was seamless on the day and the staff were awesome. The cocktails were delicious (highly recommend the lychee martini) and so was the food.

I would totally have another event at Captain Baxter! Thanks to Amy, Ella and James for making the afternoon as good as it was:)

Our EOY function was a success. Great space with really good food (fried chicken was the best). Perfect spot for an intimate private function!

Ordered a pizza waited 1 hour then went to reception to check my order and the receptionist was like sorry we send it straight away.

Hi team I was there the last weekend of May celebrating my sisters 30th and I just want to say a fantastic evening 5 stars all round from the Food to the management team & staff, accomedating our every needs and request with a can-do positive attitude that provided a wonderful celebration for my family and guests. It's experiences like this that will definitely have me coming back soon. Keep up the great work

Great location. Amazing service and food. We went there for a work dinner however the restaurant would be an amazing location during the day for the excellent views of the water.

We booked the long lunch for my friends Hens and it was so wonderful. The food was excellent with all dietary requirements catered for. Service fantastic and the whole organising process was easy and supportive. Absolutely will go back and book future events at Captain Baxter. Thanks so much!

Most delicious food in the banquet. The flavours were put together so beautifully and such a reasonable price for the quality you get. Went there to celebrate my anniversary and it was the perfect intimate and vibey spot.

Terrible service and rude staff. Won’t be coming back anytime soon that’s for sure. Ordered a jug which was incorrect so the waiter decided to leave it at the bar and not rectify the issue. We had to go up and check on the drink and they said it’s just waiting at the bar (unattended so anyone could have it) and it was still wrong.

Good atmosphere on a Sunday; food was good, drinks were quick and Leah is a delight with her friendly and helpful service!

The food was not bad but not amazing as well. The view is super great.but the staff… was rude…. They allowed us to book for Christmas party and expect us to ONLY SMILE, no clapping or laughing

Not only am I shocked with the lack of care that Republica and captain Baxter Staff have in general but I am utterly disgusted in the fact that they can lie through there teeth when asked for some simple help and assistance after having my possessions stolen from this establishment. I’ve worked in hospitality my self for 17 years, and never would I disregard a situation with such a lack of empathy or support. Bar Manager James had absolutely no desire to check cameras after being robbed of my possessions, when any kind, normal being, would automatically know, checking the cameras would have resolved this issue instantly. Instead I was spoken to like a peasant, and then lied to again by floor staff Leah, for no other reason but to Validate themselves in pretending they gave a F%#k.
May I just say, I am so disheartened by this disgusting up them selves mentality they think is right to serve Freely with their horrid service. For this reason alone, I will forever scrutinise this establishment with in the hospitality industry, purely based on the inhumane LACK ALL ROUND attitude to provide support 2 to a person in distress.

Honestly most horrid experience. Booked dinner for two at 7: 30. When we arrived the music was so loud we could not hear ourselves. It seemed there was a party going on, right next to were diners sat. When making the booking we were not told about this. This was meant to be a treat, ended up being an evening of

Our lunch yesterday was a very memorable experience unfortunately. One that we hope remains as vague as possible in the future. The gentleman, who appeared to be the manager, was extremely condescending. When asked if we may be seated outside, he appeared to panic and said that was not possible. We noted several empty tables, but he assured us there were not enough chairs. I pointed to approx.six chairs some ten meters away, but he apparently, accidentally did not hear what I said.

Outside appeared relaxing and aesthetically pleasant. Inside resembled a retirement home and was uncomfortably noisy. The patronage was predominantly young. Clearly anyone older would not want a repeat experience at the Captain Baxter. When we sat down our guest pointed out four glasses that were covered in lipstick and moved them aside thankfully. Then we noted the sesame seeds stuck to two plates. When my daughter poured our glasses of wine the manager ran over, silently grabbed the bottle out of her hand only to resemble a flamingo as he demonstrated how to pour the wine in a professional manner.

Our lunch was terrible. I was offended at the size, look and taste of my swordfish. $7 at the local fish and chip shop would have brought me a more enjoyable serving of fish. The oil it sat in was terrible. My daughters’ meals were the same. They were extremely disappointed. One person at our table enjoyed the pork belly but could not bring himself to take more than two bites of his salad. The scallop crudo appeared to have one sliced scallop in the entire dish – that’s one expensive scallop. The remaining staff were extremely pleasant. Captain Baxter provides its clients with $20-$40+ meals that would be better cooked in a kindergarten and the profit it is making on the cost of ingredients per serving price is appalling. $65 for the bottle of Cab Sav was a joke. Thank you for the awful experience. We certainly will go somewhere else in the future.

Love that place. Drinks are great. Food is fantastic. Live music is a plus and the terrace view of the ocean is breathtaking. Defininitely will be back for more.

Venue and drinks great but the lunch menu is limited. Needs to be more choice. Prices are reflective of dinner prices not lunch. No one there for Sat lunch, probably due to restrictive menu and high prices. Staff however were friendly and attentive

Celebrated my daughter's birthday at Captain Baxter on Sunday. The food was amazing and surprisingly unique. The service was exceptional and on such a beautifuly sunny winter's day, the view topped off a wonderful experience.

Wonderful Friday happy hour! We got 2 for 1 martinis (espresso and French), and sat in the back room facing the ocean. Great view, nice ambience, and wonderful service!

Great vibe and service and 2-4-1 cocktails and fried chicken bao was sensaash and our party of 5 enjoyed last Friday night and thanks to Tilly who was a great wait staff
