Cann River Bakery reviews
57Great little bakery in Cann River. Friendly staff, good food and coffee. They offer hot food (sausage rolls, pies etc), sandwiches, sweet bakery treats, bread, rolls, barista coffee and cold drinks.
I asked for a half-warm meat pie with a crust too hard to bite and tasting like it's sat in the hotbox since Tuesday last. They said no, which I thought was odd because they'd sold me one not half an hour ago.
Just came through there and the coffee and bacon and egg roll special for 10 bucks is the deal of the day.
Super friendly staff and really good food. Tried the meat and vege pastie and it was delicious! A great local business to support!
“Quite nice”, said the missus. Good bakery products and pre-made rolls. Coffee was good. Very nice outside eating in the sun. Local honey for sale.
My friends and I were travelling to Trike Fest in Bright VIC. The bakery was great and pies delicious. Great service also. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Absolute must for a stop when heading past. Great coffee and all the bakery products you expect. They even have fresh sandwiches and wonderful honey.

One of my travelling companions suggested that I should try the pies sold in this bakery, and so I choose this instead of the others in town.
The bakery is clean, and has a few tables for dine-in customers. It sells jams and honey in addition to bakery products, such as pies, rolls, vanilla slices, etc.
More than half the shelves of the pie display unit is empty, and that limits my choice. There are still plenty of rolls and sandwiches in other display units.
I overhear someone asks whether he can have a different variety of pie other than what are in the unit, a staff just replies what on display are what they have.
After hearing that, I also have no alternative but to order a pie with fairly darkened pie top.
I join my friends who sit at a table near the entrance, sipping their coffee. Unlike me, they are waiting for their pies they have ordered from a man who probably is the baker. He ordered a pie NOT from the display unit.
The pie top is flaky pastry that I like. However, some part of the top is split from the edge of the pie case. This may contribute to excessive loss of moisture causing the top to collapse. Closer examination of the photograph of the beef pies in the units does show that most tops are separated from the edge of the case.
I use my friend's coffee stirrer to cut my pie into halves. My pie is not hot, which does not score well for me. The case is firm enough to hold the filling.
The consistency of the beef and gravy mixture is just right, neither too runny nor too thick. I am not sure whether my taste buds are getting more sensitive, I think the pie I have can do with a bit less salt.
Grabbed a couple of pies (pepper steak and creamy mushroom) an apple turnover with real cream, an apricot/apple and custard slice and a white toast loaf. All of these were excellent, the pies with chunks of beef
The lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful. Recommended
Fantastic bakery. Great food at a very reasonable price. Excellent staff and the best coffee. If you are passing through Cann River make sure you stop in for a bite and or a coffee.
Coffee was ok but the pies I did not enjoy at all.
No probs with coffee. The pies we had were very dry, not quite hot enough.
Yes we have had great pies there before, not knocking the service. Hopefully just a once off.
STOP HERE! Great bakery in a little country town? The steak and mushroom pie was amazing, real steak in it and so tasty. The sausage roll the kids had was huge and also got a big thumbs up. The coffee quality was some thing you would expect in a expensive Melbourne cafe. Seating inside and out, very reasonably priced. Well done to all the staff!
Great place to stop if you are passing through. I stopped on my way back to Melbourne and was glad I did. Tracey made me a coffee and together with a fresh coffee scroll with butter I enjoyed both of these and got to the bottom of my coffee and was looking for more. Great shop, great food and friendly staff.
Great food and very friendly staff. Everything fresh stop off for breakfast, pie or cofffee and a rest. Stay refreshed abd safe. This is the ideal place.
Hard five stars for pepper beef pie. The most enjoyable pie I had in Australia. Had a good night at Cann river camping site two years ago, so stop here specially. So proudly share my story with my sister this year. Surprisedly, better feelings towards Cann river coz pie here. Definitely recommend it!
Ho hum cant really comment. Its a bakery make up your own mind mebbe Im just used to better places
Great coffee and pastries. The Lamb & Mint pie won’t disappoint even the most hardcore beef mince pie fans.
These people are doing it tough after the bushfires raveged the area.yet.their spirits are high and their smiles are wide.
What a lovely place for a coffee and cake (you can even buy some local honey).
Thank you for a lovely experience.
Very nice lovely food and lovely staff we have been coming back here on our way to and from Canberra
I'm just old fashioned and think vegetable pasties should include a lot of potato. Sweet potatoes etc don't count. Good place to stop for a break on a long trip.
