Visited tonight. All dishes were excellent. Aloo tika,
Deconstructed samosas - superb flavour!
Lemon rice
Prawn madras
Lamb masala
Kashmiri Naan
Raita

Absolutely brilliant flavours. Have no doubt, this is very fine Indian food.

Takeaway three years ago

Very fine Indian food ordered on Uber Eats during the corona lockdown. Good range of dishes. All were very nicely executed. Couldn’t fault it. Would definitely order again.

The food was okay, but getting slugged $23 for two servings of rice.seriously? I won't be back.

I might be bias for uncles restaurant but it's literally my favourite spot in Melbourne to go for Indian food. The restaurant owner has been here for years and has really perfected the indian dining out experience. Perfect homely cooked food but with that elevation of richness and finesse. Thank you again uncle I really wish you and your family all the best

The owner Vijay looked after us superbly, from choosing food and servicing the table. A very affable host. His wife and the other cook were great also.

I got takeaway from here on a weeknight. The service was prompt and on time.
The staff were friendly.
I really enjoyed the food- I tried the Hyderabad biryani which was a large portion size. The North Indian goat curry was spectacular.
The kakori kebab was nicely flavoured and fresh. I also highly recommend the lamb chops!

Didn’t taste like anything…
I’m not from a culture with spicy cuisines so it’s not a complaint of authenticity or food being not burning hot, but the curry I got had no flavour of spices or taste of anything.
I felt so illegal adding stuff into food from a restaurant, but I had no choice than to put salt and spices like cumin and coriander, even soup stock. (Even those didn’t change the dullest taste. I had to give up)
Rice was also tasteless because of too much water used for steaming.

We had dinner at this restaurant on a Friday night. The ambiance was cozy, adorned with Indian paintings and decorations, although it didn't exude a luxurious feel at all. Our order consisted of Gobhi matter, Murgh chabahar, Paneer naan, and onion kulcha. The Gobhi matter, a vegetarian curry with cauliflower and peas, turned out to be surprisingly delightul and incredibly delicious. The Murgh chabahar featured chicken cubes cooked in a dreamy, creamy coconut-based gravy, beautifully presented in a coconut shell. It was a rich and exceptionally tasty dish. While both naans were good, they didn't stand out as extraordinary. If you're looking to indulge yourself in mind-blowingly delicious Indian cuisine, I would definitely recommend this place.

It's hard finding good delivery curry, very hard. I've tried numerous places, my last favourite just closed, and overall the quality has been substandard.
I now have a go-to.
Fives stars hands down. Goat Rogan Josh, Garlic Naan, Paneer, all 5 Stars.
Next time we'll dine in, I'm sure it will be even better (if possible).

Everything was great
Except the price of the kulfi was 9 dollars something and the size was embarrassingly tiny.

Best Indian restaurant in the area by a long way. Delicious and authentic flavours, and friendly staff.

I first visited Cafe Saffron over twenty years ago, and I loved it back then. I've been back numerous times since then, and the place is still great. It's been the same owners now for 27 years and they really now how to make great, tasty Indian food. The menu has evolved over time but it's pretty much all great. I introduced a few guys from work to it and they loved it as well.

I love Indian food and have it often. Cafe Saffron has by FAR the best service I’ve ever experienced at a Indian restaurant in Australia! The warmth and personable service is unparalleled. The food is so rich and tasty too! You really can’t go wrong here!

We absolutely enjoyed our dinner on a Tuesday night at Café Saffron, Ivanhoe. While we have been here quite a few times with our family (it's my daughter and grand-children's 'fave Indian restaurant) we have not been here for awhile. Our 2 friends and my wife and I had a wonderful meal.
The spinach pakora as entrée was excellent and then the fish Nicobari, Chicken in the coconut shell were as always outstanding. We ordered naan with fruits and nuts as well as plain roti, garlic naan with plain saffron rice. But the best dish this evening was their Malai Kofta Curry - just perfect.
Their service was faultless. The owner is such a gentleman and his staff were truly very attentive.
As an aside, I had to compliment him on how clean his bathrooms were. And it's not often that I see that in Indian restaurants.
Five Stars to the only Indian restaurant that I recommend to my friends.
Best Wishes to the team at Café Saffron.

Recommended this place by a friend. Unfortunately It was a major disappointment. We got the chicken tikka, half portion tandoor chicken, garlic naan and rice.

The chicken tikka was incredibly bland, zero spices whatsoever. It tasted like I was eating chicken and yoghurt. The chicken from the tandoor was also pretty dry.

$50 for this and I didn't even finish it.

Please lift your game. Maybe I will try again next year.

Amongst the best Indian food I have had in a long time. For starters, we ordered the malai tikka and papdi chaat. The chicken was well marinated and you could definitely taste cream.loved it. The papdi chaat tasted lovely with the crisp papdi, which is made on site. For mains we had the butter chicken, favourite with our 4 year old kid; and another dish whose name escapes me, but its chicken made inside a coconut shell. So what you get is a mild chixken curry with a heavy flavour coconut cream. A must try. Will definitely come here again to try some of their other dishes.

Recently had a group dinner at this restaurant. The food was amazing, but it was the service that made this restaurant standout. The staff were all so attentive and patient, you could see the smiles behind the masks
