Bowl Bowl Dumpling reviews
43First time at Bowl Bowl &. Most certainly won't be our last! Absolutely delicious.food was amazing! Thankyou thankyou?
Lovely food though a bit on the pricey side.
Even the starters are over $20.
We just got a couple of dumpling portions and paid $55pp.:/
Great food, great service, loved it.
Surprised by the progressive house playing but overall would come here again
Veg and vegan chuan cai cooked with love and freshness. Great flavours and quality food. The mala sauce with the dumplings is a must - it is just sooo good. Cozy atmosphere, lovely staff and great food. Can't wait to return!
I had a good meal here. My only issue was the dumplings were pretty thick, but other than that everything was great. The service was good and I enjoyed sitting in the garden area.
I had the san choi bao which I loved and the dumplings which I thought were good too. My favourite was definitely the minced pork on the lettuce leaf though. It had a bit of wok hei flavour too, which I absolutely love. Dumplings were really tasty, plenty of filling, but quite thick, so I took some home for later. I do prefer a thinner dumpling skin if I'm honest.
The restaurant is nice, I think some reviews sounded a bit harsh, but I can only speak from my own personal experience. I'll be back to try the noodle soups or DanDan noodles next time.
Just remember there's a staffing crisis in hospo.
On a busy night with a bustling festival on Smith St, we wandered into a lively scene of diners and were quickly seated with menus. By then, a few dishes had run out but there were still plenty to choose from. We made our choices and settled back with mouth-watering anticipation.
The fish flavoured eggplant was amazing, slightly crispy at the edges and smooth like butter in the mouth. The Waterbomb or Xiaolongbao had the requisite mouthful of soup, exploding as we bit into the pork filled dumpling. They accommodated our request for a milder 水煮鱼, where fillets of Barramundi bathed in chilli oil seasoned with a bucket load of chillies, Sichuan peppercorns and spices. We enjoyed the flavours but avoided the tongue numbing sensation. The fish, oh the fish! So tender, they just disintegrated - heavenly.
Service was patchy and reflected in the rating, ranging from the very polite and smiley to the grumpy. We had a rice order which was forgotten and when we asked, we were told they'd run out of rice! The experience might be better on a less busy night?
The dumplings were fantastic as well as the zucchinis noodles!
The owner is great, she gives a great vibe and energy to the place!
I recommend 100%!
Loved the ambience and the hospitality of the staff. We were a group of 10 celebrating a birthday. The food was quick to come out and was delicious! The crispy duck and pancake was something I’d definitely be trying more of! The fried squid, tofu and pan fried pork and chive dumplings were delicious… our host Shin was lovely, she even organised Chinese wine shots for our group to celebrate. Will definitely recommend to others for a fun and friendly service
Lambs were the highlight for this place. Tried the Dan Dan noodles with soup and that was flavourful but the beef brisket dish with soup and rice was underwhelming and quite bland.
The food was absolutely delicious with a lot of vegetarians options. We even reordered some plates just for pleasure. The owner is really friendly and funny!
I had the Sichuan mala dumplings. It was okay but not for me with the vinegar. The dumpling skin also felt and tasted undercooked. The food probably just isn't for me taste wise, which is fine but the service was pretty bad. We were a table of 4 and the 4th dish came probably half an hour after the first. When we asked where it was it took 2 different wait staff to figure out what was happening. My dish came a while after the first two as well. They also forgot to serve my drink and when we asked about it, again it took multiple people to resolve a simple issue. Then they re-entered it as another item. Luckily my friend noticed it on the bill.
Maybe the other dishes that seem designed to be shared are more worth it but the service was a letdown for us
Delicious sichuan style beef noodles! And heartwarming service with a nice bonus from the house:) delicious fries: D
I've tried 8 or 9 dishes over 2 visits. Three of the dishes were awful (squid, spring roll, yuzu gu gu chicken - whatever you do, don't order this). Go elsewhere.
I have to return to try more dishes. Those aside, I continue to buy the chilli oil sold here, which I highly rate.
Beautiful service, so friendly and really delicious food, highly recommend the salt & pepper tofu, Dan Dan Ramen and the dumplings!
They provide the best dumplings in Melbourne. Fresh foods every meal has a unique taste plus customer satisfaction and the service was excellent. We loved the Interior design too. Definitely We will be back for sure.
A mate took me. It was his favourite. I loved it. The best Sichuan I've had outside China. Menu small and simple. Japanese influence confusing. The host, Shin, is one of the loveliest restaurateurs I have ever met anywhere. She had the knack of making us feel as if we were old friends. She spoke lovingly of the local community and her place in it. She was warm and generous. This review seems more about her than the food. Remember
Eating out is a people business.
Great dumplings and fried chicken. Nice Sichuan food.
Lose a star for not being able to split a bill even on a quiet midweek lunch.
Food was excellent - full of flavour. Too busy devouring our meals to stop & take a photo- which is a good sign.
Tight inside but managed to squeeze in our pram & there were hugh chairs available.
Really friendly staff who helped us out heating up a baby bottle. See you next time bowl bowl!
The food is fantastic my partner and I ordered the dumplings. The ambiance is quirky, very Smith Street, love the Women's Weekly cookbooks on the shelves. The menu isn't huge but whatever we boarded from here is always delicious.
