Boatshed Restaurant reviews
66 Our party of six, covering three generations, enjoyed a pleasant Christmas lunch at the Boatshed Restaurant. The service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing. The food was delicious. Even the youngest generation were able to find something they liked while stretching their culinary experiences. I was so glad that they were not limited to fish and chips or nuggets and chips. Fennel was a new taste for them, but I doubt they will be in a hurry to try it again. The alcohol matched the courses but I wish I had chosen the meringue instead of the plum pudding which was a bit boring. Some Christmas shortbread or treats to have with coffee at the end would also have finished off the meal nicely.
We will come again next year if we are still standing. It is great to have something so lovely so close to home.

Absolutely warm and welcoming and the meal was just delicious.the coffee was fantastic too.definitely recommend this place and I will return when I can!
A friend recommended this place saying could be a nice restaurant and boy was she correct.
Amazing food and service, really nice lookout on to the lake.
Me and my brother had a margarita pizza and I recommend to kids to get the adult size not the kids it’s only a $5 difference but the adult is more a decent sized pizza for a kid 8 years and up depending on how hungry they are.
I highly recommend this place
We booked an Anniversary Lunch for 12.00pm. We arrived on time & took our table. Within 2 minutes we were asked were we ready to order. No. We ordered drinks. Twice before our drinks arrived we were asked were we ready to order. No. Drinks arrived and upon arrival, “are you ready to order”. No. We were asked 7 times in the first 10 minutes were we ready to order. On the last request we complained about how many times we had been asked to order & to leave us alone. Waiter told us “ they were doing their jobs”. We finally ordered & food was great as usual. We left 1 hour & 10 minutes after arrival as we felt we were being rushed or just not welcome. We have been here at least 5 times but never again. Our Anniversary lunch was ruined by constant pestering by the staff
The staff where so so so so nice. Hospitality felt so genuine and food was delicious. We were sat at a beautiful table right at the window and it was lovely watching the sunset
A very quiet atmosphere with entertaining music.
Staff were very pleasant and efficient with their service.
Food was very well prepared and tasty.
Quality food for the price, but could be a bit more expanded with their menu list.
Boatshed restaurant is always a go to when in Ballarat. A lovely varied menu in a beautiful setting. Lovely ambience - not too loud so great for conversation!
Picture a charming restaurant right by a pretty lake. Inside, it feels all warm and comfortable with wooden decorations and soft lights. You can see the lake through big windows, and there are cool black swans walking around on the land and cute ducks swimming on the lake. It's a peaceful and lovely place to have a cozy meal and enjoy the beautiful views. Their beef is really good in medium rare.
Great coffee, great cakes, lovely service and what a view.
A great way to top off the afternoon.
Great we presented food and very friendly staff. Great location. Really good that it is a dog friendly venue.
We made a booking for ten for my wife’s 70th celebration. The staff were so welcoming and warm. The table setting was beautiful, the restaurant was warm and so comfortable.
The variety of food options was fantastic and the quality of the food was equally amazing, tasty and so beautifully cooked. Without doubt it was high end food without the high end price tag.
Staff were so attentive, accomodating and just beautiful people.
Restaurant manager Toby is an absolute asset to the place, a real people person, and works in such a way as to make you feel like you’re the most important people in the place.
If we lived in Ballarat, we would make the Boatshed our “go to” restaurant. Thanks Toby and your team for a great night.

Had a lovely lunch on Saturday, with family who travelled up from Melbourne on the train! They were delighted with the menu offerings and the setting! And found the staff very pleasant and obliging!
Pro (service) - Ability to obtain a last minute booking on New Years Night for six people and an infant.
Con (service) We we’re sat directly in the beaming sun with no shade made available.
Con (service) We ordered two cokes and were given Pepsi without being notified first. When we complained and said that we did not like Pepsi and didn’t order Pepsi, our server gave us attitude which made us uncomfortable and therefore accepted the drinks.
Pro (food) - Entrees ordered of prawn croquettes and Japanese Chicken were delicious.
Con (food) - Mains ordered of beer battered barramundi were disgusting. There was more batter than fish, was too oily and tasted off. We ordered four servings of this dish and not one person ate the fish. It was disappointing to say the least.
Pro (food) - Kids meals were tasteful and enjoyed by the kids. Drinks and meals came out in good timing and were all hot.
Con (service) - Upon leaving our waitress tried to make us pay the bill prior to actually viewing the final bill. When we requested to see the bill we were told that we were meant to pay first and received more attitude and eye-rolling.
All in all it was a disappointing meal, given that we had relatives visiting Ballarat and wanted to have a nice evening with a nice meal by Wendouree Lake. We honestly don’t feel like we received a good service and with a $350 bill at the end, it was not worth it and we will not be returning.
Always a great a dining experience here. Whenever we have friends visiting, we always bring them to Boatshed. Amazing food, amazing staff. Highly recommended.
Great food at a great location! We ordered 2 main dishes and 2 desserts. The price is reasonable for a nice dining experience and good portion.
The salmon with noodles was beautiful with the balance of sweet, sour and savoury taste. The Lamb shank Massaman curry was also well done with the meat just fall off the bone and well seasoned.
The meringue is nice and chewy. The chocolate cake is delicious but maybe because it’s flourless, it’s quite dense to my personal liking and I need to have the cake with the ice cream with every bite or it’s just hard to swallow.
Always a great place to visit - friendly staff, excellent coffee and the best outlook you will ever
Tried the Grazing Platter for the first time & highly recommend. Great blend of tastes & plenty of food to share
Rang and made a booking. Upon arrival I had to give them my name 3 times before they found the booking. They took us over to a small table that was so crowded in next to the bar other diners had to move their table and chairs. After waiting 7 minutes we were offered no water and was ignored by the bar staff when I asked. Waited another 4 minutes and left.
So we went to a dumpling house and was greeted lovingly
I am waiting on a return phone call from management in relation to our lunch we were not happy with
Great place for hang out with friends, you can even see the swans from the window. Great atmosphere, good food.
