Becco

My 2 star rating is primarily based on the food. Service staff and atmosphere were reasonable. Staff were tentative and friendly.

Most of the dishes were under seasoned. Food was overall bland. Starters were reasonable, but one of them tasted a little strange … almost like the blood orange was beginning to spoil.
Mains were the biggest disappointment. Needed seasoning, and just lacked any flavour that made it memorable.
Not at all what I expected from a restaurant that was so highly regarded and recommended.

As an aside - there was a weird, strong smell of moth balls at our table. Just detracted from the experience. Not sure if it was an indication of the lack of clients, as the place was 1/4 full on a Friday at 7pm.

I would not return unless the food improves in a big way. Becco appears to be in decline.

BECCO offers a delightful dining experience with its small deli entrance, charming ceiling fans, and walls adorned with wine storage. The open kitchen allows a view of the skilled chef in action (formerly known for Hochi Mama and Rice Paper Scissors)

The culinary journey began with the impressive scallop crudo, adorned with caviar and blood orange in citrus dressing. A true sensory delight!

Sharing our mains, the fregola with a seafood medley and Gnocci Osso Buco, were both exquisite. The Rocket, Fennel, Orange salad complemented the mains perfectly.

Closing the evening on a sweet note, the Tiramisu and a satisfying flat white from 36° Coffee Roasters provided a harmonious end to our gastronomic adventure. A must-visit for those seeking a culinary symphony!

The food is exceptional at Becco. Each dish is perfectly balanced, and for me I loved the punch from the liquor in the tiramisu. The service was seamless and when the table swapped seats to chat, they ensured the correct dessert arrived for the person. Great experience, if you haven't already been, try it you will enjoy.

A real Italian restaurant, great food and excellence service (Olivia is great). I recommend the Saltimbocca, you won’t be disappointed

Staff are super kind - we wanted to share a roll and we were given the halves separately wrapped even though we paid for one roll! Very kind

To be clear, this is not the food or the service at fault, but the owner. I was visiting a cafe for the first time opposite Becco and stopped under the Becco awning along with 10-15 other people sheltering from the rain. I was there about 30 seconds and obviously standing in the wrong spot when the owner came out and gave me a pretty nasty serve for standing too close to the door I think. OK, sorry. First time visiting the cafe and the other people seemed to be OK. Only thing is, I've been going to Becco for probably a good 20 years and always thought very highly of it. I'm disinclined to continue going to Becco knowing a bit more than I wanted about the owner. It did not make my morning remotely nice.

Update: I feel pretty sorry for the owner. Quite deluded about the situation given his reply. A pity, but decades of dining at Becco have just ended for me and my appalling behaviour. Was getting a bit sad though sitting in a 1/3 full restaurant.

We had a nice meal at Becco and the service was friendly and very pleasant.

The crusty bread by Baker Boys was excellent. I also love the mussels. The porterhouse was good too though not outstanding. My friends loved their snapper fillet and duck risotto.

The shoestring fries was fine but I would like them to be more crispy. It was just a too soft for my taste.

We had a really nice bottle of Italian Pinot Nero.

Found this beauty whilst collecting Tickets from Princess Theatre at Midday. The Manager was amazing and was able to Book me in for Pre-Theatre Dinner @ 1800hrs the same day on a Tuesday Night.

We had the Specials plus Dessert and were out of there within 45 minutes. HIGHLY Recommend.

Fantastic vegetarian pasta. I ordered the ravioli and gnocchi. The arancini was great as well.

We have been here many times and we always love it. Classsic Italian restaurant with white tablecloths and a bodega attached! Last night we had the anchovy with crème fresh, mozzarella with prosciutto and the zucchini ricotta as starters. Then we had the roast chicken and the aglio pasta as mains - it was all so delicious we could not fault anything.
Service was great and the atmosphere was bustling - which we love.

Perhaps they had a bad day, but this place was not what it was built up to be. The waitresses seemed to be confused by what to do (I had to ask for water, menu, wrong food and bag delivered) and the food that came was decent but nothing special. And there were only 3 tables to serve in a sleepy Wednesday night. A bit disappointing tbh.

Dined in mid week Oct 2022 without a booking, walk ins were accepted for a table. Group of 4 with raving reviews from all regarding meals and service. Staff were friendly, inviting and attentive. The food was incredible, with a smaller though varied menu of quality choices. Atmosphere was warm, cozy and clean. The restaurant also has local produce available for purchase and take out is available. Definitely glad we found this gem and will be returning on our next visit to the city!

Been going here for years but last few time with work and personal the standard has dropped.

For example the cold meat antipasto very poor quality not premium but paying premium pricing.

Veal cutlet for the price and size no taste and just disappointing.

Calamari thankgod this is the only dish that was good.

Steak overcooked

Looks like Becco is cutting corners trying to make up $ for lost time.

I have had a much better experience at quality pubs

Superb food and service. This was a special occasion meal for my partner and I and we had an early sitting. The welcome felt warm and our food was fantastic. Generous serves meant that I wished I had prioritised room for dessert over the temptation of entree, but such is life!

Oh my goodness! Some of THE best food I've ever had! The bread was amazing, the calamari scrumptious & all our mains were so so so delicious! Great food, great service, great atmosphere. You should go!
