Balgownie Estate Vineyard Resort & Spa reviews
58 I had an amazing experience at Balgownie Estate, where we got to taste our way through the Yarra Valley and Victorian regions. The ambiance was perfect for a wine tasting adventure.
Lachlan (Lachie), who guided us through the cellar door, made the experience truly exceptional. His knowledge and passion for wine was evident, and he also happens to be a very talented skier! It was a pleasure to be guided by someone so skilled and personable.
Overall, a memorable visit I would highly recommend anyone looking for a delightful wine tasting experience.
Newly renovated rooms were very stylish and comfortable. We enjoyed our wine tasting and dinner in the restaurant was superb.
I had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Balgownie Estate Yarra Valley Restaurant 1309, and it was truly a delightful experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home from the moment I arrived.
The breakfast buffet featured a wonderful selection of hot and cold food, all made from fresh local produce. Everything on the menu was not only fresh but also incredibly delicious.
What truly set this breakfast apart, though, were the breathtaking views over the valley. It's a beautiful location to enjoy a lovely menu at your leisure, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in the Yarra Valley.
Such a lovely place to relax and enjoy the scenary.
We booked a room last year and enjoyed it very much.
Just last week, we revisited their breakfast buffet, which truly resembles that of a 5-star hotel. I'd also suggest indulging in their cheese plate as well while taking in the beautiful view. Our heartfelt thanks to the Balgownie team for creating such a captivating experience for us
Nice food and wine! I ordered lamb loin for lunch course which is amazingly soft and juicy. Love the new renovation and the ambience is relaxing. Friendly staffs make our meal even more enjoyable.
Didn't stay so unfair to judge - however was informed that all rooms have been refurbished.
Wine tasting is very nice - so many to choose from.
Dining is exceptional - city fine dining in the beautiful Yarra Valley.
Great menu to choose from as well.
Amazing view and delicious food! First time here but will be back for sure. Staff are all very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!
Great food! 1309 is the best restaurant in Yarra Valley. We experienced great service from all the Staff! Special shout out to Caleb who is very friendly and provided excellent service.
Just had dinner there with close friend. Service was good. Drinks was reasonably priced. Atmosphere was also great. Being a weekday there was not much of a crowd and probably one of the few winery restaurants open for dinner. However unfortunately food was only average and I did expect it to be better.
I stayed with my partner in one of the rooms and it was absolutely gorgeous! The bathroom was much more spacious than expected and the bedding was super comfortable. The views were stunning and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend the wine tasting as it was so much fun and Roman the sommelier was extremely knowledgeable with a great sense of humour.
I had issues with my room and with customer service. Most disappointing is that I tried to address my concerns via email and did not even receive a reply! I guess it’s because I’ve completed my stay and they have my money so now they cannot be bothered to reply?
I do wonder what it says about an accommodation venue when guest property that is accidentally left behind goes missing?
The Eatery and Cellar Door - The worst place I have been in my entire life. Booked the place for lunch a day before, went to the venue and was told they couldn't find the name. Gace me a table and we order the two course and wine and pizza from kids menu
- pizza arrived and it was cold from inside yes it was chilled and this was for a 2 year old. So they don't make fresh pizza? Frozen not thawed and into the oven.who inbthe world offers a frozen pizza at winery? Staff apologised and said will get another one. Really? Waited for the drinks they got the wrong Martini. Returned back got an apology again and said the pizza and Martini will be on the house. Waited for another 10min no sign of Drinks or baby's pizza. Asked what happened.got a sorry we don't have the flavour you originally ordered and we cannot offer that to you. This is after waiting for 60min at the table with no drinks or food. And yes they screwed up big time we walked away thanks for spoiling my wife's birthday.
Ruined 20th Wedding Anniversary!
I don’t normally write reviews but unfortunately, I'm being ignored by management.
This winery is currently undergoing major construction to its restaurant, it is a full-on construction site with heavy machinery and a lot of noise.
We have had a few great stays in the past so we thought it would be nice to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary here at eat as many meals as we could at the restaurant with great views. We asked a travel agent to book our trip, the travel agent phoned Balgownie to book and make note of our 20th wedding anniversary and were not informed of any construction activity - in fact they called the winery twice to confirm arrangements with no notification of construction.
On check-in we were horrified the restaurant was a construction site, the blunt lady basically said it was our fault by not checking the website or the news about the fire they had (found out she no longer works there anymore). We chose not to check-in and just went home.
The restaurant is basically in a tent at the bottom of a hill near a carpark, food might be good but there are no views (which we came for).
We were initially offered a refund/credit (by the blunt lady) but when she found out the travel agent booked it through expedia we would need to contact the travel agent. Turns out expedia requires something in writing from Balgownie to refund which they won’t do and the manager has stated no one offered any form of refund/credit.
I have phoned to speak to the manager 4 times (no return phone call), I have driven to site from the other side of VIC and personally left contact details (no return phone call), emailed through the travel agent with no phone call.
We have been offered a $300 food voucher from the manager (through email from the travel agent) but considering it's less than half of what we have already paid, the manager will not even give credit we could use later and won’t speak to us we find the offer a little insulting.
The manager needs to understand at least from a business perspective: if he gives us at least a credit (what we have already paid) to be used on accommodation after construction has finished they will make more money as we are intending on eating at the new restaurant, purchasing wine and stop negative reviews from customers.
I had an amazing experience, Brian and Belinda were great! Loved the Teamwork from the whole crew
The food was incredible. However we had to wait 1 hr 15 minutes for our food to arrive. We were told after about 45mins of waiting that our food was next, however people who arrived after us were all served before us. Staff offered us a free drink at the end but by then we were reasy to go. We were told "our food was a priority" after an hr of waiting and being the absolute last people served. Not exactly a priority when everyone else is already done. We were surprised they didnt offer any discount
As a local wedding photographer I love coming to Balgownie and photographing there. The views at the top of the hill are amazing, and the teams service is always second to none.
What was supposed to be a relaxing night away - was awful. No block out curtains so the footpath lights shine into the bedroom all night. Paper thin walls which amplify the sound of the anyone and everyone walking past on footpaths and in neighbouring rooms. The bedding is cheap and uncomfortable. We definitely expected better. Wouldn’t recommend.
We came here another time before they burnt down and really enjoyed it. This time in temporary space, view not as great but the food and wine was still fantastic. Pork belly was so tender and delicious.
The price was not worth the premium price tag and everything was very expensive. The TV doesn't have cable and the bad and pillows were very uncomfortable.
Booked for lunch for 9 persons, booking not recorded but nevertheless accommodated on the spot. Flawless beautiful food.
Roman our sommelier is a gem and an asset to the Estate - passionate and a gentleman.
Beautiful wines help.
Would love to visit again when the main restaurant is fully operational.
