Baba Hawker

The food wasn't awful but just not very good - quite flavourless. Also, every glass brought to the table was kinda grimey.

But it had a nice atmosphere, service was fine and there were boardgames available.

If you like being punished into a board game, deck of cards or Magic trick the owner is keen to welcome you there. The place does not uddrstand consent, social cues etc. If you going somewhere to JUST eat and enjoy some good food, you in for bad experience. This place does NOT know how to be hospitable. Super chill little restaurant with an incredible vegan noodle stir fry. Friendly and welcoming service with great music and a lovely tap beer.

Had to wait for over 30 minutes to get served and then another 40 for our food to come out. People who came in after us got their food before we were even served. Food portions were small and the food was pretty basic for the price. We did love the board games though! A great selection of vegan options

Heard good things about Baba Hawker so decided to give it a try. Unfortunately my friends and I were all quite disappointed. We waited about 1.5 hours for our food. No apology from the owner for the wait. As more customers came in, he seated them without letting them know that there was a very long wait for food. We were very hungry and tempted to leave. When the food came it was good but not amazing - definitely not worth such a long wait.

People playing board games seemed happy - so maybe a good place to go if that is your main aim.

The owner is super friendly and considerate, he keeps you entertained even taught us how to play certain games. The food was alright, nothing spectacular but I really appreciate the vegan options.

I appreciated the two separate menus and affordable prices but not only was the food very bland, the male waiter was a bit inattentive and seemed bothered when my friend made a couple of small requests. I think that the restaurant is understaffed, and that this particular waiter is not cut out for the role, perhaps.

This place is known for board games but the food is 10/10 exceptional. I am a fine dining sort of gal and I am always just as satisfied with the flavours offered here. The restaurant is run by a lovely couple - wife is chef and hubby is the only wait staff. Wife is home cooking her culture and she is *very* good. Hubby loves and is very knowledgeable about his board games. Very chill and friendly - always willing to help you navigate the menu and have a chat. They even support the local artists and local distilleries.

There is always a slightly longer wait time for your food but come here when you’re not in a rush and you will have an amazing experience! Support a small business that delivers quality food over some huge franchise/ already rich celebrity chef. The prices and serving sizes are also fantastic. Don’t pass this place up just because you can’t wait an extra 10 mins for your food. It is very rare to find this quality of Asian food in this area.

Everything was quite good and altho not spicy it is authentic Malaysian food. Loved the curry bento box set esp the fish sambal.

Great food. Tastes authentic. Lot of attention to detail. Owner is very friendly. His wife cooks - she is Malaysian. Tastes like home cooking. Carolina reaper sauce is great!

Really great food, great drinks, and friendly staff. I've been coming here for a while and I can't stress enough how well the operator of Baba Hawker has been able to maintain a great atmosphere within the restaurant.
