Great Food, Very Popular. I don't normally book but can be busy even mid week so suggest it would be a good idea.
Still dame quality as it always has been.

Didn't deliver the taste sensations I've come to expect from Malaysian food in general and Hawker food specifically. Punchy, complex spice and herb that elevates simpler ingredients and leftovers traditionally and combines them into a delicious dish. By contrast, the sauce for the signature Ayam Chicken was safe and insufficient, the Salt and Pepper Calamari, a little too salty and a tad overdone - even the rice seemed like it had been in the cooker too long. OK is not good enough for this favourite!

Ayam Chef served Malaysian/Asian fusion cuisine located in Southbank. Salted egg-everything was still a trend, so we tried the salted egg fried chicken and the classic Hainanese chicken rice. They were both so delicious! The fried chicken had crispy skin that wasn’t too thick, and the salted egg flavour was quite prominent. The Hainanese chicken rice came with tender chicken and very fragrant ginger rice. Service was friendly, the venue was clean and the ambiance was pretty cosy.

2nd Visit Sun Aug 2023: Gr8 to find quality has been maintained if not better. Had lunch with a few friends - curry laksa, claypot eggplant sambal, lobak & Kam Hiong calamari was delicious. Reasonable price at current cost of everything. Just get their attention for service. Authentic Malaysian - they have both hawker style stand alone & dine in menu.

1st Visit Aug 2019: Great authentic Malaysian fare & attentive service. Try the lemongrass chicken, eggplant sambal & Tofu. Goes well with the ginger rice.

Service was really good and the staff were very friendly. The food was good although I found the banquet was pretty ordinary. The fried ball was a let down and way too oily. Dumplings were really good! The free cocktails from the waiter was amazing!

A good place with good staff and very accommodating at the last minute. The food felt like it was slightly on the salty side (not the nasi lamak but the fried food!) which is what probably makes it delicious. They could do with more vegetarian options too, for time being they did have a few options. Certainly recommend if you love Malaysian style hawker food! Overall a good experience

I'm coming back for those Coconut Butter Prawns because they've got to be made in heaven to taste like that. Had the best dinner with my partner here and loved every dish we ordered. We're coming back for the redang next but also the prawns! See you guys soon.

Really enjoyed having dinner at Ayam Chef the food was great and the quality too.
We have tried the duck, beef, prawns, skewers and eggplant.
Not too spicy or salty but everything looked balanced.
Not pricey at all and friendly service, really recommend.

Always a solid choice in the middle of the Southbank/South Melbourne. Really great value, personable staff and the quality of the dishes is authentic. Gets busy around lunch due to the office workers around the area and come to think of it, it's busy all the time and all days they're open.

Great place to have some food that makes you feel at home if you are south East Asian:)

The long beans are my favourite, steam fish, sizzling tofu and also the dessert for the sago are all great!

Can’t go wrong with this food and it’s a definite try.

This is one of our favourite Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne. The dishes are authentic and the staff are very well organised and accommodating even at the busiest times. They do delivery (to the Southbank district) and pickup.

Ayam Chef simple Malaysian cuisine. I have been here for lunch and dinner and the quality of food and service has always been fantastic.

After taking my family here, it has become one of my family favourite restaurants. There are so many great dishes but some of our favourites are chow hor fun, 5 spice chicken ribs, san low fried bee hoon, fried kueh teow and curry laksa! (Just to name a few)
New dish Kam Hiong clams wow soo yummy and delicious.

The restaurant has a great atmosphere! And is always buzzing with diners as there are indoor and limited outdoor seating arrangement.

A shout out to Connie and the Ayam chef team! Keep up the fantastic work and the delicious food you provide.

Will see you soon!

One of my fave eatery in Melbourne. One dish that keeps making me coming back here is their san lor bee hoon. It's way too good and I haven't found this anywhere else.
Paired with extra pepper and their homemade chilli sauce - it's a must have dish here.

Their other dishes are wonderful too.

Definitely worth a try and make sure to book a table, as it's always full house during dinner time.

My family's favourite Malaysian restaurant on the south melbourne area. Often chose this venue for birthday party, meeting friends and when we are craving for Malaysian food. The food and service quality are never compromised. We love many of their menus. Value worth their price tag. Highly recommended.

Delicious restaurant and home cooked dishes that goes well with rice. Also has popular hawker fares like the fried beehoon. Will definitely come back for more.
