Arts Centre Melbourne reviews
41 I loved it. The New Year's Eve concert was amazing.
John Foreman does music so well.
A great place to see shows! The State Theatre stage is about to have a reno but honestly the seats were way more comfortable than many theatres around the city.
If you want to get the full panoramic voew of Melbourne, this is the place to do it, atop the tallest building in the southern hemisphere. Be aware that the place gets really crowded at peak times, especially in the evening. But the views are worth every penny.
I am quite disappointed that Arts Centre Melbourne made the decision to sell tickets at full capacity knowing that government restrictions were limiting capacity to only 50%, in the hope that these restrictions would be lifted prior to the show, without even alerting customers of this at the time of purchase.
We had booked accommodation for family to come from rural Victoria, and they had taken time off of work to come and see the show. To be alerted only one day prior that the show had been rescheduled for only some ticket holders is very disappointing and shows that Art Centre Melbourne does not care at all about their customers. I would understand if restrictions had been put in place after the tickets had been sold but this is clearly not the case. In order to get a little extra money by selling more tickets than they could provide, Arts Centre Melbourne has forced customers to lose hundreds of dollars in accommodation fees and missed work. I hope that future shows are handled differently to this.
Hillarious events, (I wnt to the comedy festival) good drinks at the bar, convenient surroundings (botanic garden, easy to acsess, parking, and more) and a beutifull foyer with gold plated walls.
The Arts Centre’s famous spiral is just the tip of an enormous network of underground passages, archives, performance spaces, dressing rooms and offices, extending five floors underground.
The friendly host will tell you stories of famous performers who have tread the boards of the Arts Centre’s theatres since it opened in 1984, and tales of backstage mishaps and urban legends from over the years.
They’ll also give you an insight into the technical aspects of putting on large-scale shows at the State Theatre, which seats 2,079 people and has a ceiling covered with 75,000 tiny brass domes.
If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to glimpse sets being constructed for upcoming productions.
On our tour a guy had prearranged for some extra excitement by proposing to his partner on the main stage.

Saw a show in the playhouse theatre. Audio was way too loud and there was no warning about the strobe lighting that blinded me enough to miss some of the performance. But staff were nice and it was otherwise a great night out
Thus palce is beautiful inside and out.the ambience, lights, setting, decoration makes u feel very welcomed and posh. The staff are polite and kind, very helpful. I attended my graduation here and i must say it was very well organised except for the fact there was no cafe or kiosk to tame our hunger.with the exception of no food or drinks, I'd say it was a memorable place.
Wow hey art Centre nice enjoy your stop at this one as plenty to do education for you and your family
So many different venues at the Arts Centre, always something interesting happening. It is not only a great place but conveniently located: a short walking distance from the train station and it has a very big underground parking which can be booked in advance. Fantastic!
Probably was quite nicely decorated in the late 1990s, but it's a bit dark red and gold bling. Rooms are fine for a conference, though the layout is a bit hard to make work for delegates. Highly confusing signage saying "Arts Centre Melbourne" in front of an adjoining building as well.
We watched the Nutcracker, which was absolutely amazing! Such a spectacular performance. We had such an enjoyable time, I highly recommend this venue. Especially the Nutcracker!
Central location with stylish function rooms and a helpful staff. Only slightly let down by the catering but would definitely use again for client functions
The Arts centre in Melbourne is a magical place and provides exciting plays, music, ballet and Opera. There's probably more than this to discover yet
Concert at Hamer Hall was fantastic. Great venue. Good seating. Perfect view of stage. Recommended without hesitation.
Attended the opening night of Alice in wonderland, had a great time. My granddaughter loved it so much she was dancing in her seat.
This place is amazing, and not just for arty people. Take a trip with tour kids or partner- you will be surprised how amazing the art work is. Don't just look at the art read the information it is awesome.
I am just sad that I can't give 6 stars.
Melbourne's premier arts performance space. Presenting a range of world-class entertainment options.
From my seat H69 in the Circle of Hamer Hall I could see and hear quite well what was going on down on the stage.
Talk about confusing we went to the wrong theater. Signage is terrible. I went with some one that lived in Melbourne and shr got it wrong too.
