Archie's All Day reviews
83Was quite packed and had to sit by the bar which made it a little inconvenient for my friend and I to converse. Interesting food fusion for a breakfast dish and quite delicious! They also had a washroom at the back which is clean and especially convenient. Good music was played throughout the cafe. Although, I have to point out that the staff that day were a little short on their service which I guess it’s “one of those days”.
The brunch menu somehow transcends the Melbourne standard, with an uncommon attention to detail. The boozy brunch options are great, and Negronis (why not for breakfast hey?) are a bargain at $10.
I've been here a couple times, I'd recommend during the week, off peak hours. Lovely staff, great coffee, absolutely fantastic food. Thanks for another great experience
Beautiful brunch place. I really enjoyed the smashed avo dish; that sumac goes really well with it. Friendly service too.
Loved the plum pisco sour too!
Good food. Nice atmosphere. Music is a little too loud for a chatty lunch. Service can be a little abrupt - but probably due to how busy they are at peak hours.
Recommend booking ahead.
Great food and great service. Fantastic little spot for simple gatherings. Thanks Anthony for looking after us when we were there! 100% rate the coffee too!
Never eaten here because it's always packed but I did visit for a coffee. My oat flat white wasn't my favourite but was still above average. Space is a bit cramped but pleasant and service is nice.
Highly likely the best smashed avo and turmeric latte I ever have experienced. To top it off the staff actually want to serve you-swiftly too, it’s such a welcoming & refreshing change! I’ve encountered that many disinterested & surly “servers” since I’ve moved down here but Archie’s have restored my faith! Didn’t catch any names but they all seemed very lovely & you feel that they enjoy their jobs. Please keep it up guys!
The food here is great but the staff and service is truly abysmal and embarrassing. We were sitting in a group of 4 in a booth at the back of the cafe and the waitress insisted that we pay before we were ready to leave by shoving the bill on our table.
Because there was no reception in the back of the cafe and we were paying by card the machine would not process the payment and instead of reassuring us that we could take our time and pay when we were ready the staff came back to our table 3 times with the machine even after we said that we would be happy to pay at the front when we were ready.
We also asked for another bottle of water for the table but after 20 minutes the server still had not brought the bottle over and we had to go grab it for ourselves.
I would understand asking us to leave if it was a crowded day or if there were people waiting for a table but there was no one waiting for a seat and it seemed like a fairly quiet afternoon. Leaving a one star review for this cafe is generous for the experience we had.
Waiters were unbelievably rude and did not listen to our requests at all. They also tried to get us to leave as soon as we had finished our meals, the waiter came to our table and asked if we were paying by cash or card as soon as she cleared our plates.
This has been a recurring theme over the last couple of times and i will never be going again.
Got the crispy eggs, served on the crust piece of toast (i.e. Definitely not enough toast to bread ratio). The eggs themselves were lovely and fresh but the dish was overpowered by the flavour of the sesame dressing and kimchi. There was no melding of flavours, just the elements all sitting sadly on the plate.
First of all, despite being busy the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The music and vibe of the place is quite hip with a younger crowd here.
I had the batch filter brew, although the coffee itself tasted great, it wasn't as hot as I'd have liked.
I ate smashed avocado and this is where the place won me over. The taste was delightful and gave me a smile from ear to ear, easily one of the best breakfasts I've ever had and wish could eat it all over again.
Other food looked great and you can also scan the menu to get more details on the ingredients. Nice touch
A food highlight of my visit in Melbourne.
Love the place, cozy and friendly staff. We were there around 10 am not so many people. Highly recommend crispy poached egg with kimchi, it’s a must! Chai tea abit too sweet for me. Hot chocolate is good same as Cold brew. Would love to come back again.
Worst service and very disappointed. The waitress who wear the jeans jumpsuit was very bad behaviour. She should not bring her issues to customers. Even give me a mean dirty look.
This place has it all! Fantastic food, coffee & service.
I had the cauliflower and potato hash with mushrooms and truffled hazelnuts and it was superb. And a big thank you for the Birthday breakfast mimosas too!
Got myself a couple PGMs here (Pear & Ginger Margarita's). Followed by a dirty mary. The dirty eggs were awesome for a hungover individual that was getting back on the gravy train. Also the staff were a lot of fun.
Just discovered this place, worth the wait, tasty (Huevos Sucios - Dirty eggs), and especially those fries, with that sauce.
(these are ones you TAKE HOME w the sauce, if you cannot finish - they're that good!)
Food was not good. Disappointed.
Had to send the first dish back as it had soured. Second was better but still not great.
Edit: emailed with details. No response.
Visited with a friend and lucky for us we found this little place while shopping in the area. Staff were very welcoming on our arrival. It was extremely busy but we got a table, only complaint is tables are extremely close together and getting between is very tight. Coffee was wonderful and food excellent. Will definitely return for breakfast as the menu selection looked really good.
Dropped in during the week and ordered the ‘Persian Spiced Almond Rice Porridge, Quince Compote, Toasted Almond & Pear 16.5”.
Another breakfast option offered ‘rhubarb yogurt’ to which I offered the waitress $5 extra to substitute from the ‘quince’ in the dish.
The waitress (brown black frizzy hair) said “We don’t do that here. It’s funny that you ask that.a few people have asked for the same today” before briskly walking off.
I silently think to myself, does this person even listen to a word she says? “People are asking for it” - You’re not listening to your customers *even* if they’re willing to pay more money because ‘we don’t do that here’. She must have owned the place.
‘Waitress’ returns only to hastily snatch a tumbler of cutlery we’re not using. Storms off.
Food arrives.
When I put my spoon down to have a sip of the poorly made Mork Hot Chocolate, the same rude woman approaches the table, “are you done ‘picking’? ’ Wanting to get out of there, I say yes. “Picking”? Get stuffed Archie’s!
What can I say? Dismal hot drinks. Dismal food. Nothing ‘Persian’ about that ‘Persian spiced almond rice porridge’. Rice was bland, soggy, somewhat gruel like. The quince (supposed to be the star of the dish) did not deliver and made me wonder if I was eating a cheese plate or a soggy rice dish.
There’s no room for improvement when one is unable to take constructive criticism.
Note: the reply from the cafe demonstrates the childishness of the waitress above.
