Anglers Tavern reviews
45Food was good, beer / cider was good. Staff not overly friendly but not bad. Signage tricked us when coming off the river bike path - we didn't realise it was the back entrance.
When they say this pub is on the water.it REALLY is on the water.
Had a swim up bar.loved it! 10/10
Recently had a formal joint 50th Birthday party at the main function room at Anglers.
The facility is tidy, and clean, and presents well. Michael (Senior manager) was highly professional to deal with, while Maddy (our event room co-ordinator) was responsive, friendly and engaging. We were and remain, appreciative of both.
The problem lies with the catering. It was clear early on the kitchen was completely overwhelmed by the requirements of the evening. Chef and kitchen, please take note, your team need to LIFT their game
Many guests (even the normally easy going one's) complained about the slowly delivery of food, and overall lack of food, and it was clear the event was under-catered for, despite us being reassured before the night that our orders and platters would be MORE than ample.
For a Parma and a Pot (etc) with friends on a Saturday afternoon, this is a great venue.
For a formal and fully catered event, seek alternative solutions
Greeted by a very rude security guard at the door trying to tell us how to dress! My partner was wearing nice track suit pants and he wouldn't let us enter.what kind of pub treats their customers so terribly? We found this really classist and horrible, ruined our dinner plans.definitely won't ever come back.
Food was excellent, just a little over priced considering there was no waiting service at the tables.
Previous reviews have it spot on. Great location and terrible food. Parma was soggy and floating in water. Burger was burnt and the bun was very very burnt. Lamb kebabs also burnt, very dry and almost unedable. Lamb shanks had so much over salted gravey that the mash potato has basically dissolved into it. Portions huge. Service was ok. Such a disappointment. Took family for the first and certainly the last time.
A lovely spot by the river. However horrified at how management treat their staff, especially in front of customers. Food very average to disappointing.
If you are all for discrimination then by all means go to this place. They seem to pick and choose the people they want to let in with the bouncers and management on the door thinking that they rule the world. If you do manage to get in the food is terrible and the lack of restrooms is terrible. Would give this place a negative star rating if I could - So many better alternatives to go to rather than this stuck up joint (eg: Lakehouse Restaurant nearby)
Food was ok but the dining area was too cold. It was a very cold day and all doors were open. Food got cold and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I can see how this place would be popular in summer. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Service was quick.
Went for dinner. Had the pork belly. Food was good, slightly pink at the bottom though
Place was packed shoulder to shoulder.
A lot of staff were not wearing masks and not one diner was wearing masks… no social distancing whatsoever
Security guards were a bit rude too
Haven't been there for over 20 years.
Alot has change to the better.
Love the renovations and great tasty food.
Felt like being on the set of the O. C,
Has hang out lounges, a main dining area and a large bar. Very busy and lively on weekends. Would recommend
Good location. Lots of space. Coffee was served really hot.chips served only warm on this occasion. Will have to try again. But lots of areas to relax alongside the river. Good nightly deals. Not the most romantic of places but great for family gatherings and chill outs.
The food is amazing and the staff are excellent. There's an amazing view of the Maribyrnong River which makes the ambience epic!
My favourite meals so far include;
Calamari salad
French farmhouse chicken
Lamb shank
Thanks Anglers for the amazing service!
Absolutely discusted in Saturday nights security and management. Two young men went to unwind and relax after a day of playing Football (AFL) in Ballarat and was refused entry. Firstly, the security accused them of being intoxicated and/or on Drugs. They were quite shocked and upset, tried to defend themselves by telling them that they were SOBER. Meanwhile, management supported security and said they had attitude. These young Men have never been in any trouble or have any type of criminal record. They both have great careers, and have positive involvement in their community. They were very poorly judged and discrimated against. Is this because one of them were of african appearance? I understand that some people may need to be asked to leave for whatever reason and need to look out for the safety of other patrons. However, to be refused entry because of somebody's culture is discusting! You really got it WRONG, extremely disappointed! Unfortunately, the Tavern will back their security and wont admit that they are wrong. "Just doing their job". Absolutely discusting behaviour, you shouldn't discriminate! These men deserve an apology.
Had a few beers outside with mates. It's a nice vibe, and the evening wasn't too bad. Reasonable pricing and the crowd were pretty good for a Friday night.
Really nice family friendly venue. Menu is a good all-rounder pub style. Don’t expect anything other than the standard are and you’ll have a pleasant experience. Will definitely keep coming here given its size and multi-purpose space but would be nice to have the staff step up a touch.
We had a Seniors lunch here today. The main courses were a good size and enjoyable. We both chose the pavlova for desert and we each requested a scoop of ice cream. (We realised we would have to pay for this extra) However it was pay $3.00 for 3 scoops of ice cream or $4.00 for 1 scoop- work that out!
Great pub on the river. Every night has a special. Tonight was steak night cooked exactly as I requested. They were playing poker in the main bar, on every week.
Great once you get inside, doesn't look too great from the road, but don't let that put you off. Food is good and has a nice outdoor area for the summer
