Came here for wife's birthday and we had the degustation menu (included a photo of it at the time).

Out of the dozen dishes we had only 1 dish I didn't like but that was purely due to my preferences (the pink snapper dish).

Everything other dish had some very interesting flavours and textures I've never had before and really enjoyed.

The service was amazing as you'd expect and what I didn't expect were the Chef's to present the dishes themselves and explain their creations (makes sense though when you think about it!).

We sat on the table directly opposite the kitchen (one of the most open kitchen's I've ever seen) and had a blast watching them make every dish.

The pacing was perfect and food was served with immaculate timing.

One other thing I'd like to really highlight is how satisfyingly quiet all the chefs work. It's great because it really adds to the ambience and I can have a nice conversation without the expected busyness and noise that usually comes from a kitchen.

Yes it is very expensive per head but I honestly felt it was worth the experience.

They even threw in a chocolate blood orange mousse cake for the birthday!

January full menu.

Entrees were better than mains. We chose non-alcohol pairing and it was fun! We can't believe drinks could match so well with dishes that they became expansions of the food.

低调、钻研、创新、氛围质朴。非酒精pairing太有趣了吧,简直是菜品的延展。

We had a great night at Amaru. This was the first time we had fine dining since COVID. Hand sanitiser and check-in QR code was placed at the entry. Waiter was friendly and polite. The whole place including bathroom were tidy and clean.
We really enjoyed the food and drinks. The menu designed with surprise but not out of ordinary. (I personally don’t like ingredients outside the normal food, for example I like food infused with herbs and spices but I don’t like herbs which they should just be plant) I found some of the fine dining tend to create something special and they just put any plants into their food, taste was funny.
The food at Amaru create a good balance and you can tell the chef skills from their food. Especially the kangaroo, the meat cooked in perfect timing. The texture was tender and juicy, the most important was you couldn’t taste the sour from the meat. (Kangaroo meat rich in iron, I found the sour taste quite often)
Another highlight was their home baked sourdough with lightly whipped butter. Nothing better than a freshly baked bread to make a person feel satisfied and happy. The structure of the bread was excellent, the thickness of the crust was just right. By dipping the bread into the whipped butter, in one bite, you can taste the fluffy butter melted in your mouth straight away but at the same time you can chew the bread and taste the fragrant of wheat. The taste can last quite a bit in your mouth. I asked for refill because the bread just so amazing!
The last one was the hidden course, a cheese puff. A very buttery fluffy pastry with carrot chutney and topping with shaved sheep milk cheese. Let’s just say, this is another well balanced meal! Very impressed!
The only food I didn’t enjoy was the mint chocolate, only because I don’t like mint flavour.

My partner booked a table for my birthday, just the two of us.

When we arrived the host asked us to leave and come back in 15 minutes because the table was still occupied and the previous guest was still enjoying themselves too much. Once we returned from the walk the table was still occupied.

We didn't expect it from such a place specially when they have time frame for dining.

The food was an interesting experience, We laughed alot and had a good time but will not go back.

Just spectacular, can't believe we haven't been here before. The staff and service - impeccable, I could hear the sommelier talk about the wines forever and every wine we had was wonderful. The food was exceptional, we ordered a second serve of one of the dishes. Couldn't fault a thing!
We will be going back many times!

Amaru is an elegant fine dining restaurant nestled amongst the High Street Armadale shopping district.
The ambience inside is modern and quiet with lots of space between tables.
We were treated to a fifteen course degustation accompanied by a lovely bottle of Rhone Valley wine.
Each course was small and delicate stimulating the full spectrum of our taste buds. They were brought out one at a time with a description provided by the chef who had prepared them. The creations were interesting and deliciously tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive.
If you are a foodie who enjoys innovative food, you must try Amaru.

Absolutely perfect. Brought my partner here for his birthday and everything about our experience was flawless. The food, service, decor were faultless and not too pretentious. We must have been served by half the floor by the end of the night.

Definitely recommended as a special occassion spot that can tailor to groups. Can't wait to find another reason to come back.

Probably not a COViD safe place to visit. After coming down with runny nose, sore throat, major headache and high temperature more than 24 hours ahead of our booking, we contacted the restaurant to cancel our reservation as I am scheduled to get a COViD test today. In accordance with Dept of Health advice to isolate when you experience symptoms and until you get a negative test result, it would be negligent not to do so. My wife is obviously a close contact and will be getting tested and subject to the same isolation requirements. The restaurants view however is that they will charge a $220 per head cancellation fee if they are unable to fill the booking. With such an exorbitant fee and zero visibility of the restaurants efforts to actually try and fill the booking, I wonder how many patrons would feel pressured to go ahead with their booking anyway and thus place other patrons and staff at risk. Expect much more from a restaurant with this reputation, particularly when so many businesses are desperate to rebuild their custom and call on their customers and community for their understanding and to support then to get back on their feet, seems like this understanding only cuts one way. What was to be a special occasion ruined by COViD and the added salt rubbed into the wound by an opportunistic and unscrupulous gouging by exorbitant cancellations fees. I wonder how these policies stand up to Government Health advice and consumer laws? Obviously wont ever be attending this place on the future.

This was our first dinner out this year & our first time at Amaru for my partner and I. We had no expectations going in and were completely blown away by everything they have to offer! The food was spectacular (to say the least) & the attentiveness from not only the front of house team but also the kitchen was something to be admired. We will be back! Thank you once again for everything you did for us last night, we had such a great time!

Dining at Amaru goes beyond simply enjoying good food! It is an experience, from the moment you arrive until you leave!

The staff are so unbelievably attentive, the dining room sets the mood for the mind blowing food you are about to devour.

If you love a high quality degustation, then Amaru is Melbourne’s best restaurant to experience it.

Cannot recommend them highly enough

I visited Amaru few years back whilst on a short Melbourne trip and I can't help to think that this is the best degustation I have had to date. Seriously, nothing compares to the impeccable service and impressively creative dishes I have had here. The restaurant only has few tables which allows intimate fine ding experience between the chef, waiter, and the diners. Amaru has really raised my standards and is always the comparative fine dining restaurant. I cannot wait to go back to Amaru!

An incredible experience, there's just no other way to describe it. The atmosphere and the food are amazing. For me however the stand out is the staff, the level of service was second to none, they all demonstrated a level of passion and charm that I've never seen at a restaurant.

TLDR - Book a table ASAP.

It's been a long time in lockdown here in Melbourne and for our wedding anniversary we felt like something extra special. Amaru did not disappoint. Everything was absolutely delicious, well packaged with plenty of information and easy to put together. The portions were well sized. We ordered for 3 in case our 5 year old daughter wanted to try some and in the end we were totally stuffed. If you are looking for a delicious meal and fine dining experience at home I cannot recommend Amaru enough. Thanks for making our lockdown anniversary one to remember.
