Alternate Worlds Comics and Collectables

An old school comic shop that is a one stop destination for most everything you need to either start your comic book collection or complete a run. If you’re hunting an illusive out of print single issue, trade or omnibus Alternate Worlds is often my first port of call. They’ve been in business as long as I remember from my original introduction to their Chapel Street Windsor location to the Bayswater store the team has been hugely helpful in completing my collection (rarely will a search via the website pre-in store visit not see me find what I’m looking for). I usually visit on a Saturday and am always blown away that this out of the way location is often busy from the moment they open the door with a really diverse crowd of shoppers from the classic comic book fan to the littlest of kids. The team have been able to point me in the direction of titles I wasn’t aware of as much as help find what I’m looking for. A curmudgeonly welcoming from the team delivered with warm humour and an obvious passion for what they do makes a visit to Alternate Worlds well worthwhile.

An extensive stock of out of print and hard to find items. Well worth more than one visit to fill in gaps in your collection, or start a new one.

Friendly service, amazing range of products, can really look around for ages & chat with staff who know their stock.

Great place for all your graphic novel, manga, comic book needs. They also have a range of games an other collectables. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They are also accommodating in trying to get in special order items such as comic book backing boards and sleeves. My only criticism is the dust, but I understand being in an industrial area it would be hard to keep the dust out.

I love this place, don't get to come often but I always leave with something I haven't been able to find elsewhere.staff are always nice and store has good vibes in general.

Took a few days for them to respond to my order but once they did and the ball was rolling they moved very quickly. My first order was packed very well and sent straight away. Well done guys will be ordering more from these guys for sure

Pretty good place, wide range of stock for a small place and they’re usually pretty nice.a lot of things are probably overpriced but i don’t have the patience to order online from somewhere else, just wish they would reorganise the layout, it’s kinda cramped but not too difficult finding things so not a big deal.to the people complaining about the employees not being hyped to go find their specific comics from the back, i totally get that, i’ve switched mostly to ordering online and doing store pick up just to avoid the hassle and i’d say it’s worked out better for me anyway.overall i’d say it’s not the best for casual browsing but if you know what you want you’ll probably find it here:)

Amazing range on comics and collectables, better than the shops in the city and they seem to be the only people in Melbourne doing this, not to mention there amazing, friendly staff and the fact that they will go out of there way to help find what your looking for makes this place an EASY 10/10

Great range of comics, bags, boards & etc offered here, although a bit overpriced. I ordered bulk for delivery and instructions were clearly followed. Packaged well too as well with care.

Very good place. Friendly staff, clean store and a wide variety of products there. Would definitely recommend if youre interested in collecting items like; comics, manga, figures ect.

The warehouse outlet is big enough to keep a very wide range of stock and I'm rarely disappointed when looking for just about any manga or independent comic. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. This has been my main comic shop for decades, and I hope they continue many more.

Didn't realise something like this existed out in the suburbs. First time I went there I felt like I was in a maze of towering bookshelves. Very cool. Comics, manga and RPGs. I've also seen what seems like a close knit group playing MTG some days. On your way out don't forget to pick up the upcoming comics sheet on the counter, so you know when to come back!

Great place to order Comic Books on-line. Orders are well packed and books are in great condition. Shipping is very reasonable and they help to combine shipping for multiple orders whenever possible. One of my favorite on-line Comic book stores and highly recommended!

I ordered 5 comics online and waited a week for shipping info so I could pay for my order. After no response to my follow up email, I sent another asking for my order to be cancelled.

I then placed an order for the same books with Kings Comics in Sydney who posted my order the following day.

Waited a week for an online order to be picked till I decided to go with another store that makes customer service a priority

Went here to purchase a few comics for a birthday present. The customer service was truly above and beyond. The selection is outrageous! I even purchased a few extra comics for my son while I was there - great kids/all ages selection. I always leave this place feeling happy with purchases.

Great staff. Thanks Joe and Jayden for your assistance. This is a place to find lots of rarities for your comic collection at a reasonable price. Largest warehouse collection of X-Men comics and trades in the country, period. I think I've spent over $2000 here over the past few years!

I have been going to alternate worlds for several years, the regular staff know my name and I have a pull list with the store. For back issues their price is marked-up, just pull out your phone and see what is available on ebay. My weekly routine is to check an app on my phone for key issues of the week, log on to their website and order them with the option "pay in store". Vast majority of the time I get what I want, including rare variants, without having to pay for postage. Excellent range. Vast majority of one star ratings complain about service. There's only one cash register and these people are complaining about waiting for five miuntes. It happens in a store when regulars to the store have pull lists of >$100.

Best place in Australia to get variant issues. I've only purchased from the online store, which was a great experience. Peter was a huge help when I needed something in my order changed.
