Alfred Nicholas Memorial Garden reviews
68Nice and peaceful garden setting, east walking or steps if you are in a hurry. Plenty of tracks that allow for running if so inclined.
Another great day trip out of Melbourne is this place right here.
Recommend visiting Alfred Nicholas Garden Do you know years ago an artist turned the mansion inside the garden into an art exhibition but now it is renovating into becoming a hotel? !
So you can't go in there atm but don't miss the lake and the boathouse, and/or George Tindale Gardens.
The green lush garden, tranquillity and peace makes you feel like you are somewhere far away from hustle and bustle of Melbourne CBD, when you are only hour and half away!
Could be done along side Yarra Valley weekend trip or a day trip on its own. Bring your forget your camera, and/or your phone fully charged to take pics. If taking pics is not your style, you can simply visit it for some peace and quiet.
Incredibly beautiful. Doesn't look like much at the start, but a short walk down a hill and its like a hidden garden and lake is there. Its very special.
OMG, never knew of this place until husband took me. It's a nice stroll - I'm not very fit. Went in May (Autumn). So pretty, there's a pond with bridges (Currently under construction) but will definitely go back. We were lucky enough to find an Earthstar (mushroom like species that looks like a pearl). Highly recommend. Just be careful of your deemed a senior as the fallen autumn leaves can be quite slippery.
Such a serene place to visit! However it’s really packed and busy to take photos if you’re going on weekends and around Noon-5 pm
Best to go before 10am or after 4: 30pm
. Great place to take kids and not a difficult walk
An interesting spot.the boat house and lower lake area is a must.
The place requires a little TLC to bring it back to life.
I love to visit the Alfred Nicholas Gardens at any time of year, but in autumn there is so much colour, it is just magical!
Worth going and having a look, especially in autumn. The colours are absolutely gorgeous, and if you walk down to the lake you can see multiple stunning Ginkgos.
Such a beautiful place to take a stroll. The trees are enormous and the serenity is delightful.
It is not a long walk though, best for short strolls.
The trees are still green, but it won't be long until we see them turn.
I think I went at the wrong time of day. It was packed to the point of not being able to enjoy it. TBH the gardens looked like they hadn't been cared for in some time with a retaining wall damaged, lots of pathways closed off and overgrown, leaving only the main route to travel. The famous boathouse that has been photographed to death was the most underwhelming feature. It's just a dusty old shed, small and the pond it faces is tiny and uninspiring too. The bridges to the little island were also conjested, although pretty, everything was very compact and just left me waiting for something to impress me around the corner, it just didn't eventuate.
What captured my attention was the gorgeous Art Deco mansion that sits at the front of the property, its fenced off, being left to rot, it astounds me that some philanthropist hasn't invested in its restoration as it would bring life to the gardens and would serve as a fabulous venue, gallery perhaps for local artists (and ahem.photographers:) ) I do hope it gets taken care of and not demolished.
Have been many times in the past, it seemed a little run down atm, I am sure come spring they will have it looking beautiful again.
A beautiful, relaxing place to spend a few hours in tranquil surroundings. The lake, waterfall and bridges set among gorgeous trees is the perfect retreat for anyone wanting some peace and quiet!
Great place for a stroll amongst rainforest like trees or take a picnic by the lake. Steep walks so not suitable for everyone.
A pleasant garden set on a hill.
The main feature is the lower lake which on still days gives you excellent photo opportunities.
We went on a drizzerly day where the photo opportunities were still great.
The best time is to visit the gardens are in mid Autumn and mid Spring.
Once upon a time this place might have been nice to have a stroll through, but it’s existing condition was pretty poor. Seems like it has no funds or anyone looking after it. Dead ferns everywhere, old mansion that’s been overgrown by surrounding plants with a dodgy fence surrounding it. If you really want to be amazed, go to the private garden that’s open to the public at Mount Macedon (Forest Galde Gardens). $10 per person and it’s worth every cent! 100 times better than this garden!
It's a beautiful place to visit with many hidden treasures. Well maintained and with beautiful planting, this is a garden worthy of visiting at any time of year.
I wonder if its haunted! Otherwise very very good garden! Would like to come back for the fall season and take lots of photos!
A great spot for picnic or simply just a walk in the bush during autumn in Victoria and also to mention it's free to enter.
This garden is beautiful. It get busy on the weekend, but it's very easy to lose yourself for half an hour wondering around the main paths or the little tracks that wind off it. Definitely recommend.
Any enjoyment of the beautiful gardens is ruined by the awful stench coming from the disgusting toilets that are obviously never cleaned.
