Gem in Carlton! It’s my first time here and absolutely mind blown. Understand why this place is quite busy on a Tuesday. The place filled with lots of natural lighting, also they have outside dining as well. The Starters come out very quick. For main dishes, they may require a bit of your patience but definitely worth the wait! One of the best restaurants in Carlton so far. Highly recommend for their pasta and dry aged duck - simply delectable! Staff attentive and genuinely friendly 10/10 service from start to finish!

It was a great dining experience but minus one star for not quite meeting my high expectations for their pasta!

The pasta was cooked to perfection but the flavours weren’t the best. Their pasta were generally too salty and lacking flavour. I was expecting something more. I also wish their signature pasta had more seafood in it too.

The entrees were amazing though including their tomato butter which was a special. Beef tartare was my favourite.

Friendly staff, nice ambience and simple but clean interior.

This is the second visit to the restaurant as we enjoyed the dessert on the first visit. When it was time to order dessert we were told we have to leave the restaurant in 15 minutes as the booking is only for 2 hours. It was not so on the first visit and this was not made known to us when we booked. We were served quickly, and felt rushed to leave. We mentioned this to the woman who spoke to us when we paid the bill. She came outside with us and assured us that should we decide to eat at the restaurant again, we would be looked after. We tipped 5% on the credit card as the other staff serving us were good. We just hope they received the tip, considering the unethical way we were treated. It's rather unfortunate for the restaurant to have senior staff who do not have people skills as we had a good first visit telling many people about how good it is (particularly the dessert) and would have gone again.

Little hidden gem in Carlton. Probably best pasta I've tasted in Australia, feels like back in Italy again. However, it's not just pasta, some amazing duck, beef tartare and probably so many more dishes, I guess I'll have to go back soon to try. Good wine list too, as well as the service. Highly recommended

If you read the Herald Sun you would note that in their latest ‘Melbourne’s Best Italian Restaurants Revealed’ their was no Al Dente.
This was not a mistake. Rather a confirmation that Herald Sun journalists have no taste.

I’ll have to start charging commission for the amount of people I have recommended go to Al Dente.

Simply one of the best modern Australian restaurants in Melbourne. I had the five-course degustation, it was of incredible value. Everything was delicious, with perfect portions, and totally unique. 10/10 service as well in what was a super warm and welcoming interior.

Incredible dining experience - delicious authentic food with a zero waste philosophy and some truly surprising flavour combinations. The casoncelli and the grana padano foam were two standouts. Exceptional customer service, thank you.

Melbourne is blessed with a great choice of good restaurants. However, what sets a good restaurant apart is the degree of customer service and the willingness of the restaurant to go above and beyond to be exceptional.

Al Dente has been my go to takeaway since the beginning of the pandemic and I haven’t stopped since. Why? The prices are reasonable, the quality of food is always fresh and delicious, the meals freezes and cooks well when I want it and plenty of choices in the menu.

BUT today, I wanted to talk about the exceptional service. I placed an order for delivery on Saturday. First I get a message about the approximate time of delivery which was helpful. The food was delivered on time (as usual) but unfortunately, today, there was an error in the delivery ie the sauces I ordered for the frozen meal was wrong.

I immediately rang the restaurant - not expecting much to be done as it was really not a big deal. I would have accepted a $15 credit for the wrong sauce as I could still have the meal with a difference sauce. The restaurant, not only apologised for the error and offered to have uber deliver the right sauce (plus a bonus serve) within the hour (we are about 45 minutes from the restaurant!). I would say this is EXCEPTIONAL customer service and the owners should be congratulated and compliments to your staff.

Just had dinner here with my wife. UNBELIEVABLE. Couldn't fault a single dish. They were all mind blowing and we spent most of the drive home talking about the dishes. Staff were extremely knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly. We will definitely be back again soon. Highly highly recommend.
