Afghan Charcoal Kebab (Sahar) reviews
54 This is the one afghan kebab shop I will never goto again. The meat is chewy and tough, it's over or under cooked and the taste is rotten. The shop is run by kids who have no idea about cooking or customer service. The meat sits there all day and they cook it on charcoal thinking it's going to be okay. If you want a day off from work for food poisoning or looking to experience the most disgusting food, this is the place.
Don't say I didn't tell you so.
I came here in my teenage years and a meal here readily fed up to 2 people with the price of a meal being very affordable. The dishes are culturally diverse and the food a delight. I have returned in my adulthood, and once more I am delighted to experience this magical food that I can now share with my family. Still very generous servings, well priced, and extremely delicious!
Delivery on Uber eats to expensive food to bad, no rice little bit do meat for 4 skewers. Disappointing
Modest Afghan kebab restaurant in the heart of Dandenong. Large portions to satisfy hungriest customers. Village style no frills presentation but very tasty. Good value for money.
Moist and very flavourful chicken. One of the best charcoal chicken we had. But if you are a small eater, we would highly recommend you to share cause portion is HUGE. Also appreciate the freebies (salad and afgan bread) that comes with our meal. Rice isnt dry and the carrots and raisins on top complemented the whole dish.
What can I say about Sahar, it’s the best Afghan charcoal kebab house in town! Been here many times and they never disappoint you. We had a group of 6 turn up and ordered a variety of 5 meals there was so much food to go, so tasty well presented and for a reasonable price. If you are visiting Afghan bazaar in Dandenong, Sahar is a must. Highly recommend.
Sahar restaurant is very good. The food is delicious, tasty and varied. The price is cheap. They behave very well. I recommend you to visit this restaurant.
Sahar is one of those places those restaurants where if you don’t know about it you won’t go. The food is absolutely amazing! The flavours are all throughout the meat making you want to get more. All the meats there are freshly cooked and bursting with juices. The portion sizes are good having enough food for 2, for just one meal.
The food was absolutely beautiful. I went after a friend from the west said they’d come all the way to Dandenong just for them. Not being far from home, I thought I would try it and it was amazing. Ended up having it three days in a row. Got my meal and was given extra Afghan bread. Delicious!
Worst service ever, guy told me 15 mins took an hour. After I got my food he goes “finally huh” They charged me $45 for 8 skewers and started shaking when I asked for two sauces. I’ll never go here again
Really enjoyed the meal here as I was on a carb free diet. I would go again. Looks like a family run place with great service. The charcoal grilled chicken was a bit dry and they don't have hummus which to me is a requirement for kebab. Having said that this is an Afghanistan restaurant and asking for hummus is probably like asking for pizza at a chinese).
One side of the shop says 'Sahar takeaway' which is where you also place your order, then you move next door to sit down if you want to dine-in. Today was my first time eating Afghan food. Enjoyed all the skewered meats, very tasty. I enjoyed the Afghan flat bread - it is different from naan or pita; it is more 'full-bodied' & filling.
Charcoal kebab shop one of the best Afghan cousin to eat BBQ charcoal kebab.
Till now I couldn't see any other shop good than this shop
Price good food amazing and fresh.
The owner is fantastic
Very flavourful food, the seekh (shami) kebabs are my favourite! The chicken skewers are really amazing too!
And the brown chutney is to die for!
Also, do try the lassi (drinking yoghurt) from the fridge, its the salty lassi. I loved it!
Succulent & juicy chicken skewers! Hands down beats some supposedly 5-star, upmarket restaurants that overcook their meat.
Used to be great value for money. I used to be a frequent visitor - now no more.
Recently have increased prices (fair enough) but also reduced portion size.
Patrons used to be mostly Afghans but now it’s multi-culture (great). Afghans customers now realise the value for money equation doesn’t make sense.
Loads of other restaurants in the same street & adjacent - exactly same menu - better value for money. If a big group, shop around and save.
I made an order via menulog today, and I might as well have ordered in the restaurant and ate it there.
The chicken and rice was hot, salad cold, everything was fresh, and it tasted amazing. I will be ordering again. Highly recommend Afghan charcoal kebab.
Thank you for an amazing meal.
Best rice ever! And the tangy sauce is to die for don’t forget to buy extra sause. Staff is so sweet always a good experience
Have been visiting this place since last 17 years and will keep going for donno how many more.love the kebabs there.
If you’re are interested to sample Afghani cuisine, the best place to go is in the heart of Dandenong town centre. There are several restaurants so we try this one. Appears to be run by a family with members chipping in to help at different times. Great for family dinner - see our orders. Very satisfying. Update with photos of another eating session here.
