Abacus Bar & Kitchen reviews
73 Nice atmosphere.
Say NO to the Crab Crumpets. They're basically a bred with fish taste with an egg on top. Very disappointing for the price you paid.
We tried other dishes, but we weren't impressed with them either.
Go if you want to have a coffee in a beautiful place only.
I really wanted to rate this place higher because the food was incredible but they put poisonous Gypsophila flowers on our cocktails and one of the deserts which are quite toxic to humans and aren't even slightly edible? I don't know why this was done on the day we went as none of the food or drinks in photos online contain this plant on them. I wasn't aware at the time that these plants were poisonous and only found out when I began to feel unwell after hours after drinking my cocktail which the flower was placed in and mixed with my drink as I sipped it. Super bizarre experience.
The food was excellent as usual with a fairly new menu. Both the prawn linguini and calamari with Kim chi were delicious. The service by a lovely waitress was both friendly and efficient, with water regularly being topped up without having to ask. My only slight reservation was the choice/ level of music which was techno, maybe more suitable for a nightclub than conducive to dining and conversation.
Sometimes all you want for dinner is a damn good steak and some crunchy fries. The $25 steak n chips deal on Thursdays is a godsend! Consistently good, and great atmosphere as well.
Recommendations:
Dry aged steak, salad, fries with sauce - $25 on Thursdays
Food was disappointing. Ordered the pumpkin and avocado croquettes only to be served one small croquette, and a whole lot of watery pico de gallo. The description needed to be clearer and the price of the dish to reflect that.
Beautiful Saturday afternoon and sunny evening here in Melbourne:) Another opportunity to dine out for us. Abacus brings everything what I been hoping for:) Lovely looking restaurant, outdoor and indoor area. We been seated in the back next to window with a bit of privacy to talk. Very busy they got few Hens nights too:) Excellent service from all staff was good start, following delicious entrees, tuna tartare amazing, lobster cigar so good, oysters tasty and fresh, steak and baked sweet potato phenomenal, pasta also great. All dishes were well presented too, Thank you Abacus for our first time but definitely not last time with you:) martini
Selected as it was busy. Trust in numbers. Even though busy, service was fast and professional. The food we saw being served as well as ours looked scrumptious. Not a fan of tap water though. Meal size was small to medium. Not sure if the healthy price is a Chapel street thing. Atmosphere was great.
Get the raspberry candy and enjoy the exceptional service and the professionalism. They really make you feel special. Food is good but I'm a coffee guy. Coffee is off the chain
Beautiful presentation! Had the avocado & pumpkin (pumpkin croquettes, avocado, goats feta, black bean, charred corn, tomato, onion,
coriander, and a poached egg).
My partner had the hand-rolled nori linguine (fresh nori linguine, alphington mushrooms, wakame butter, avruga caviar! Fancyyyy)
Not super filling, but the ambiance of the place is modern, sleek, green, and gorgeous.
Very nice try of the bbq in Abacus Garden! I am loving of the lamb and mashroom! Very juicy and chewable! Alcohol love must try the frozen Margaret! So summer!
Friendly staff, lovely environment, beautiful traditional chinese BBQ. A perfect place to catch up with friends.
Hi everyone.
This place has the smallest portion ever. Food is served without sides, which they charge extra. Unprofessional / untrained weiters. Definitely overpriced!
Excellent location and great venue. The staffs are so friendly! Very fancy brunch place. The food is yummy and tasty, served with a sophisticated touch: highly recommended! I will definitely come back again:)
The food is phenomenal and the coffee is outstanding. The frozen coffees is definitely worth a try.
I had a wonderful experience with our waitress maria, she explained the menu. Was very attentive to our order and in addition she made sure we were okay. The venue was recommended by the manager. The cocktails were amazing: infused with native flavours. They seated us at a beautiful table
And gave us the best experience at abacus
I usually don't like giving bad reviews so I am just going to keep my comments to myself but in brief I will not go back or recommend, maybe they were just having a bad day.
Airy with good helpful staff. We had seats on Chapel St which is a great place to watch the world go by. Interesting and varied menu
Had the Blue Swimmer Crab Crumpets and they were amazing. And the service and vibe were great too.
Delicious food from an interesting menu with plenty of native ingredients. Well presented also. Disappointing issue was that having pre booked a table there was not one reserved for our party and the three of us were squeezed onto a table meant for two, not even a third chair or place setting when we were first shown to the table. Wouldn’t have minded so much if a family (2 adults and 2 small children) in front of us who had not booked were given a much bigger, and 2 others next to us were on a table for 4. A bit more care / forethought into table allocations would have made it a perfect lunch.
Excellent experience! I was surprised there is a BBQ bar at the back. Really yummy food and nice place for friends hangout. Would highly recommend.
