The place is good as I watched a concert. Very lively and you can have drinks inside as desired.

A smooth experience on entry. Heavy security presence inside the venue so feels very safe. Bar staff very friendly. Smoking area is limited capacity but short waiting times.

Galactic Empire - Star Wars and Heavy Metal - it's a niche market, and as such not so many people were there to see this event. Great venue, although drinks are typically night club expensive.

Just wanted to give a HUGE shout out to the incredible staff at 170 Russell Street, for looking after my partner so well last night. They just couldn't have been more helpful or gone any more out of their way to make sure he was comfortable, had a stool to sit on to watch the band & was able to move around the venue with relative ease & safety (he's on crutches!) Thanks especially to venue manager Taryn & the lovely security guard, who escorted him down ALL the stairs! We'll be back for sure.

Whenever a band I like comes to Melbourne I always hope they're playing at 170. The sound quality is always on point and the light effects are always great. They have more than one bar to help with lines so you never wait too long for a beer.

The sound system in this place is incredible.
It doesn't matter where you are in the room, you can see clearly and ever since they put in additional bars, it doesn't take ages to get a drink.
The staff are great and great bands play there.

Great venue. Went there for a gig last night. Sound is perfect and loud. Always heaps of staff on. Easy access to bar and restrooms

Nice, clean layout, but expensive drinks and terrible sound. Saw Tea Party and the sound was a flat mess.

Bouncer stopping people from going in the men's toilet when there is a massive line to the ladies toilets. Cares more about deciding people's genders then spending money on a good amount of toilets.

I have been here 3 times to see live music. I really enjoy the venue. Has 2 different bars, tables and benches that you can sit at. Very nice toilets and bathroom facilities and a cloak room.
There is a car park right next door but I prefer to park around the corner on Lonsdale Street.

Amazing concert yesterday in 170 Russell Melbourne. Max & Iggor Cavalera, playing the albums Beneath the Remains and Arise, with a local band called Primitive. Very good sound and good management. In Melbourne center CBD, with a lot of restaurants close. I will return soon, as they bring good bands to play there.

Great venue for gigs - intimate, with areas to sit & chill. Heaps of toilets for the ladies & an unpstairs area to get your smoke on!

Seems a well run venue with a good layout. Thankfully much cooler than outside in Australian summer.

Saw Emperor play there this week and it was pretty awesome. Looked great, sounded great, and had an ok view from where I was.

Just saw Kodaline, fabulous venue, great place to see live music. Great areas to venue from. 3 bars with fast and friendly service. Definitely would come and see more acts when visiting in Melbourne.

Seen heaps of gigs here. Decent venue with a few different levels and viewing spots. Sound can be so-so depending on the band setup or where you are standing. Short people should get in early to grab an elevated spot along the railing.

Consistently decent sound and lighting for shows here. And the way the place is sort of tiered towards the back means there are plenty of placed where you can see the band.

Place is nice but I saw few people turned down by security because they were too old to get inside. My friend had racist experience there as they won't let you enter if you ain't like particular appearance

Place and crowd is nice but beer and drinks are expensive. 11$ for corona. And 14 for jack danuels bottle. Crowd and music is good

Went here to see PVRIS last June 17,2018 and they were awesome, 170 Russell is a nice live intimate venue, The acoustics sound great and also loving the vibe.
