Both my husband and I have travelled to many places in Europe, USA, Canada and all over Australia. I can say without any doubt that the Triabunna Barracks, rooms and surrounds were the best we have ever stayed at. The Barracks consist of three beautifully furnished and comfortable rooms. The hosts welcomed us warmly and provided a welcome drink and cheese platter on arrival. In addition, they provided some interesting history on the restoration of the Barracks, some convict history as well as things to do in the local area. I highly recommend staying here!

A Historical Haven with Heartwarming Hospitality: Triabunna Barracks

Triabunna Barracks is a harmonious blend of historical elegance and modern luxury, a haven nestled in Tasmania's radiant east coast, just an hour away from Hobart Airport. The redeveloped 1840’s sandstone Barracks and Stables offer an experience that is rich in charm, style, and comfort, a silent storyteller of times gone by, meticulously fused with today’s highest standards of hospitality.

Each detail within the spacious bedroom suites is a testament to refined taste and thoughtful design, featuring individual kitchenettes and opulent bathrooms with the indulgent warmth of heated floors. It’s a symphony of the old-world charm and contemporary luxury, an intricate dance of sophistication and warmth.

The culinary domain of the Stables room is a gastronome’s paradise, embellished with a chef’s kitchen, a convivial dining and common area, and the soothing embrace of fireplace warmth. Every culinary endeavor here is a joy, with every sip of coffee from the commercial coffee machine a whisper of luxury.

Owners John and Kim elevate the experience, their hospitality is the soul of Triabunna Barracks. Their warm welcomes and attentive service make every guest feel cherished, turning every stay into a cherished memory. They are the heartbeat of this historical gem, enriching every moment with their thoughtful and genuine care.

The eco-conscious traveler will find solace in the property’s commitment to sustainability, showcased by the CCS2 Electric Vehicle Charging Point, nourished by a 12KW solar array, ensuring convenience is offered hand in hand with ecological mindfulness.

Triabunna Barracks is more than a place to stay; it’s a gateway to explorations and adventures, located close to attractions such as the Marina, Maria Island walks, East Coast Cruises, and more. From wine tastings and distillery visits to cruising the Mercury Passage, the experiences are as diverse as they are exciting, with activities like fishing, bushwalking, tennis, golf, and water sports ensuring an enriching stay.

Breakfast is a delightful symphony of choices, with B&B room guests being pampered with either a hot, scrumptious breakfast or a rich continental hamper to be relished in the comfort of their suites. Those renting the entire venue are greeted with a lavish breakfast pantry, promising mornings graced with culinary joy.

Triabunna Barracks is a journey through historical grandeur, a whisper of the past seamlessly woven with the luxury of the present. It’s where every moment is enriched with beauty, comfort, and the warm hospitality of John and Kim. Whether a lover of history, a culinary connoisseur, or a seeker of serene luxury, Triabunna Barracks stands as a beacon of unparalleled Tasmanian elegance.

It is a haven where every second is a cherished memory, a sanctuary of luxury and warmth, and I wholeheartedly recommend Triabunna Barracks to anyone yearning for an exquisite Tasmanian sojourn.

Lovely stay, building has been beautifully restored and exudes luxury and comfort through a combination of modern refurbishments whilst retaining its heritage elements. Kim spoilt us with a delicious pre-prepared home made breakfast and a cheese platter on our arrival. We will definitely be back when weather permits a visit to Maria Island.

One, if not the best Bed and Breakfast we have stayed in. A truly sympathetic heritage restoration with contemporary features and facilities. The hosts Kim and John go out of their way to ensure your stay with them is memorable. Will definitely be planning a second stay.

Our night at The Barracks was a special gift, and what a wonderful gift that turned out to be! From the moment we arrived Kim and John made us feel like honoured guests; welcome and totally at ease. The welcome drinks and platter of local treats, lovely conversation and delicious homecooked breakfast next morning all helped us relax and were greatly enjoyed and appreciated. The restoration of two old sandstone buildings with fascinating histories is worthy of Grand Designs or Restoration Australia, having been completed with skill, dedication and deep passion. The finished results are stunning, with special touches everywhere. The bed was heavenly and the bath totally luxurious.
We arrived tired and jaded on a wet and blustery day and left feeling refreshed and energised anew by our night of kind indulgence.
If you're ready for a treat I suggest you book now. And don't forget to ask John about the gin in the well - it's a fantastic tale!

My partner and I stayed here in early August, John and Kim are so lovely and so passionate for their beautiful piece of restored colonial history. Beautiful breakfasts, great conversations. The area is ready to explore, wineries, convict history and a warm welcoming pub right next door. Highly recommended, try to fit in more than one night. Love Téa.

Triabunna Barracks is an extraordinary blend of innovative luxury accommodation and rich Tasmanian colonial history. Kim and John are very generous hosts and kindly recounted their inspiring story to realise the restoration of the site. The opportunity to enjoy some superb Tasmanian produce on arrival … and a local whisky in the late evening really hit the mark.

Absolutely stunning accommodation and sensational hospitality. Excellent eco credentials on this relatively new renovation, and a real Grand Designs experience. Like other reviewers have said, we have never experienced bed and breakfast accommodation like it. It would be an amazing place to go with some other couples, as there are three fabulous rooms and a communal dining/lounge area, complete with a well-stocked bar and wine rack (it’s an honesty system and all very reasonable prices). Next door is a local pub with a fire, welcoming locals, and apparently great for a meal. We went with the fresh fish and chips from the van so we could make the most of the fire back at the Barracks. Will definitely be back to stay, including to see Maria Island which was shut for a few weeks when we were there.

This was the best B&B that I have ever stayed in! John and Kim are amazing hosts, they are so welcoming and go over and above to ensure that you have everything that you need and are comfortable for your stay.
They have worked extremely hard to create a beautiful, clean and luxurious space for guests. All the little touches make such a difference, and there is nothing that they haven't thought of!

The town of Triabunna is small, but the location is perfect if you are going to Maria Island, as it is right next to the ferry stop. It it also a close drive from Freycinet National Park and Hobart.
Even if you aren't planning on doing anything in the area, it is worth coming to stay at the Triabunna Barracks just for the incredible experience!

I would love to go back again and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone travelling the east coast of Tasmania as your first choice of accomodation! If you can only chose one place to stay, this would be it!

Thank you John and Kim for your kindness and hospitality during my stay with you, you have done an amazing job and created a true "Grand Design":)

Wow! Our stay at Triabunna Barracks was unlike anything else we had ever experienced. The level of service we received from John and Kim was extraordinary, and the rooms were simply stunning. The entire venue is pristinely clean, and the design and decor is very thoughtfully chosen. The minute you step foot in Triabunna Barracks, you will feel the level of care and passion that Kim and John have put in to make this bed & breakfast so special. Cannot wait to come back!

Robert and I loved our stay here. The weather was torrential but, also having been upgraded, we were cosy and dry in this beautifully restored building with sensitively decorated and modern interiors. Our hosts Kim and John cooked a wonderful breakfast for us and couldnt have been more helpful and informative.
