Touchwood Cafe reviews
45Good food except pancakes are not cooked fresh they were cold at 9.30am probably from the day before
Slightly hidden off main street, but one of the best Cafes in Stanley. Big breakfast is big and delicious. Cafe is clean, modern, spacious and very inviting. Definately recommended.
I was a visitor to Stanley, yet I was made to feel like a local (or even family).
From the welcoming smile, to the service, and wonderful meal.
Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
If you are a conisuour of coffee, and really nice food, Touchwood Cafe is the place to visit while in Stanley.
Best coffee so far in Tasmania! Really friendly service, food was delicious. Recommend the vegetarian savoury muffins!
Thank you for lunch today. Our first visit to Stanley what a great town. Lunch was great your sweet potato soup was the best my husband the pate which he enjoyed. If you visit this town we recommend this cafe just adding to my review thanks ladies for the recipe my hubby loved it
I like scallops in general but scallops in a pie? Definitely worth trying out! My goodness, that happened to be one of the tastiest ways to eat scallops, and my colleague, a local Tassie, had a lot of praise for the calamari too. Even the salad here was out of the ordinary. I can understand why a lot of tourists stop here.
Get a table by the window, there's a great view. Commendable service and a serviceable menu. Seafood chowder was very nice, but no mussels which was odd. Quiche with salad looked tasty; reports were good. Gallery stock dwindling as the property is on the market. Warm and comfortable place to come in to from the winter rain.
Had a lovely Devonshire tea.
Service was great and food was excellent. Highly recommend this cafe. View was fantastic too.
The food is always amazing, the staff are lovely and the gift shop has beautiful, reasonable things to browse after (or before). Highly recommended
Best Scones, Jam and Cream, I’ve ever had.
Service was excellent!
Highly recommended.
Best lunch, coffee and cakes in Stanley!
Had a great time in this lovely place half local souvenirs shop/half restaurant & cafe. The view is fantastic, the menu was delicious (highly recommend the Seafood Chowder, excellent!), followed by a great homemade cake & coffee.
100% recommend on a day in Stanley, the Touchwood will help you recover in the best way possible after a quick climb to the Nut!
Before going to conquer the intimidating Zigzag Track up to The Nut, stop and fuel up with a wholesome lunch at the humble Touchwood Cafe. Just by sitting down, the presence of local bonds strongly emanates from the servers and their hospitality. Our order arrived in a jiffy and I wished I had taken my time with eating because it vanished before I could relish in how fantastic it was.
The steak sandwich showed why it earned its place on the specials menu with a pile of fresh toppings pinned underneath soft Turkish bread. The perfectly toasted loaf and the bed of spinach was an excellent foundation to absorb the precious juices from the tomatoes and steak. Such careful attention to the composition of the sandwich made each bite compact with bold flavour. Despite the steak being well done, it was surprisingly tender where the meatiness became the pillar for the other accompaniments to stand on. Even their onion rings shine outside of the sandwich and are done the best way you possibly can: Fried crispy thin with a divine caramelised sweetness.
Of course, we couldn't leave Tasmania without having a classic scallop pie and Touchwood put its renown on display. We got the scallop mornay pie that was filled with a creamy ocean of seafood. The small scallops and prawn were so tender that they diffuse into the decadent mornay which could use more cheese. While the top of the pie is light and puffy, the pastry base can be too thick and hard to swallow if not paired with a good amount of filling. It is best that the pie crust remains flaky through and through. But it wasn't just the scallop pie that piqued my interest. The side salad was the most elegant I've seen and tasted gorgeous like its modest looks. Those spirals of beetroot and carrot may be the best scenery that Stanley has been hiding all this time.
Have a small township cafe teach you how to make appetising food with simple ingredients. No ostentatious plating, no skimpy portions, just the benchmark delicious at Touchwood Cafe!
Hi
We drove 2hrs to Stanley today what a lovely drive and coastline
We wanted to have a scallop pie for lunch so we went to a the touchwood cafe
We were met with this if you are wanting to eat in hear there is a 25 minute Wait
If you would like a takeaway there is a 5 minute wait
I stood near the counter and the owner said can you not stand there and go and wait in the galley (shop)
I thought this was very rude
We waited 10 minutes in the galley where I must say every thing in that shop was so over priced!
Then another worker came 10 minutes later and took my order for four curried scallop pies take out $57!
The lady took my card and did not even ask if I would like a receipt
And when she came back I asked if I could have a receipt she said do you need one I replied yes
She never brought me a receipt the shop teller did I think after hearing my request
We eventually got are takeaway and to our surprise found only 3 of the pies were curried one was not
I don’t usually complain but the rudeness and incompetence of this establishment topped with the extortionate prices does not look good for Tasmania
Great little cafe serving Genovese Coffee which is one of my favourites. The staff are friendly, the service quick and the food delicious. Would not hesitate to recommend this place
This terrific little eatery was just what we needed to start our day. Good breakfast/brunch options, friendly staff and good prices.
Was absolutely delighted by this little gem. The food is absolutely delicious. My chowder was too die for. Fresh local seafood in a not too heavy broth. The staff is friendly and most helpful. Then there is the magnificent view. Worth checking out.
Very nice cafe in Stanley, food and service was excellent.
We had a nice breakfast here, before exploring the Nut
Waited 20 mins for takeaway scallop pies.
They were too hot, a little burnt on top, and dry inside. Also a bit expensive. Nice cafe though.
Lunch starts at 11: 30. I really like scones and flat white but hot chocolate is so so. And totally $43.
