The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery reviews
57Service and ingredients first class, each course enough for 2 and bigger than the last one. Pasta and calamari dishes fabulous as we're strawberry pancake and lemon pie desserts. Excellent local wine.
So the venue was cute and fresh with its setting in an old mental asylum. The staff are incredibly diligent with taking orders and making you feel welcome while also bringing out your order in a timely fashion. What let this interesting venue down was the wow factor for the food. It was an interesting selection of locally sourced ingredients but the menu items could use some more practice. The chef's presented the dishes well but the flavours didn't really rise to the occasion.
Beautiful big dining room in old building. Great service. Excellent local produce. Small serves but well done.
Our table of 4 had a lunch of shared 9 plates. We enjoyed all of them and loved most of them. The menu changes on a weekly basis, everything is innovative and sourced at their farm or from local suppliers. Our waiters were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. All in all I can heartily recommend The Agrarian Kitchen to all.
Thank you Rodney and Severine Dunn for being the most beautiful hosts.
I had a wonderful experience.
Being a Sydney sider myself, I admire intensely the encounter with people that follow their dream, listen to their hearts, and create something amazing.
What makes this experience unique?
Rodney initiated the whole “ farm bug“, (the need to move from the big cities and live in a farm) where all chefs from the main land have followed. It is the first and only authentic cooking school farm introducing you to the real deal, putting the standards super high for others to follow.
Fly to Hobart, and do not hesitate to enter the world of the Agrarian Experience.

The Agrarian Kitchen Cooking School is soo worth the price and travel. I've done two classes now with Rodney, Sev and the team and am eager to do more. I did the Agrarian Experience which was a full day session and gave me so many new techniques and tips in cooking.
Rod was very patient with us while we asked many questions and asked him to repeat things. We got to tour the beautifully kept garden and pick all of our ingredients for the days cooking ahead.
You get to keep the recipes of what you cook that day and then get to enjoy your lunch that you've just made.
I would highly recommend this to anyone - it also makes a great gift!
We were so looking forward to our lunch but unfortunately the degustation had a lot of fried food and carbs. This made it heavy, rich and not a great experience - a little more fresh/lighter flavours would be great
Yum! Lovely place to eat a long lunch - definitely recommend the feed me option! Seasonal Tassie at its best!
Great place for lunch if you are in Hobart. If you are staying in New Norfolk dinner would be excellent. Interesting building and restaurant set up.
Amazing food, definitely worth the trip, service wasn't perfect though waited at least 20 min for final course with no explanation.
One of the best farm-to-table dining experience in Tasmania, highlighting the amazing, fresh and clean flavours of the region. Definitely not to be missed!
This place is so good, every time I go there it is always consistent and always delicious. The menu changes very frequently but this ensures that you get fresh from the garden meals. I don’t like everything on their menu but there is always plenty of dishes that I will eat and I never leave hungry.
The cakes/desserts and the bomb! Usually these are made by Rodney himself and they’re always worth getting even if you are full!
My ultimate favourite would have to be the potato cakes!
OH MY! The Agrarian Kitchen is just amazing. The food is mind blowing my delicious and creative. The service is friendly and attentive without being obsequious and fawning over you. If you are visiting Tasmania do not miss the opportunity to visit.
Liked most of it very much! Just a suggestion for deserts I would have a display cabinet with lots of quality cakes in it where people could choose from! I certainly would have ordered one! Success!
Amazing service, incredible food, knowledgeable staff that helped us select and time our food perfectly.
A fantastic lunch here. The food was delicious and the service top notch. This was all in a spectacular venue!
I didnt enjoy my meal and no effort was made to respond to my criticisms. The flavours were not well balanced.high on the acid. The cheese dumpling was served cold! The salad ingredients were very limited. They don't deserve to be in business very long, this is food fashion (here today changed tomorrow). Experimenting at my expense and the pressure to be creative seems to be intense. 2 hat eating should simply disappear if they dish up cold stodge dressed with vinegar dressing. My tip is order the fish, it was fresh and cooked well. The 3 of us gave up after disappointing entrée (half eaten plate returned to kitchen) and mains (another barely touched plate returned to the kitchen). And the one pinot on the limited wine list was left half drunk. No discount or compensation offered so service was obviously not focused on satisfying the customer. 2 out of 6 dishes doesn't warrant any more than 1 star. It's totally unpredictable (menu changes constantly) and inconsistent.
