Busy place, and deservedly so.
We had trouble getting in because it was so popular.
The food was excellent, service very good, staff welcoming.
They had a Game pie on the menu, with rabbit, wallaby and venison in it. It was fantastic (and I don't normally eat those meats). Very very hot though. Be warned.
Chicken schnitzel was good too.
Reasonable selection of Tassie craft spirits behind the bar.
Had a lovely night and meal. Do yourself a favour.

What an awesome gem with beautiful views. Stanley is drop dead gorgeous.
The restaurant and pub are cosy, with a nice fireplace and attentive staff. Sam in particular was amazing at recommending a meal, checking up on us and satisfying even the challenging wine requests - Pipek was delicious! Thank you
P.s. The seafood chowder is a must try!
P.p. S. You might spot some little penguins on a post dinner walk too:)

One of the best steaks I've had to date, perfectly cooked all the way through. Great portion sizes and all round very tasty, definitely recommend.

Rude reception and bar staff who act quite entitled and abrupt. Acommodation comfortable and adequate for the price. Food overpriced as pasta overcooked and lacking on seafood and with a strange sauce. Restaurant manager and floor staff were an absolute delight who offered an alternate meal

A nice night I didn’t make the same mistake as in Hursey so I ordered the natural cray as these guys also double cook their crayfish if you order it in garlic or mornay! The oysters Kilpatrick were brilliant as was their melt in your mouth scallops
The steaks that came out looked amazing
Staff were friendly and attentive one who took our money, filled with her own self importance, all in all a nice night and will try the steak tonight

This was probably one of my worst dining experiences ever…. Ordered the fish and chips and scallop pie. Scallop pie had 4 scallops in it - very very mean serving. The fish and chips was supposed to be flake and chips - there were 2 small fillets of white fish (the size of flathead tales) - not the flake fillet I was expecting. There were actually 14 chips. Sorry I did not take a photo but at this stage I was just at the “buyer beware” stage.
This is where it gets bad……waitress then came to collect our plates and asked if we were happy with our meals. My partner then told her about his disappointment with only 4 scallops in the pie. She agreed that there should have been 8 scallops in the pie, as the crumbed scallops meal comes with 200 grams. Thinking she was onboard with the feedback she then very bizarrely stated she was going to give us a free desert but because we were targeting her she was not offering this to us. She walked away with the empty plates…. A few minutes later the chef / cook was peering through the door at us BUT NO ONE CAME TO SPEAK TO US.
When we went to the bar to pay, we again voiced our complaints to a man identifying as a manager - we relayed our experience, while the waitress sniggered in the corner and then denied her behavior and then left crying. We were then charged the full price……. We had a rubbish evening and eventually had the scallop pie refunded.
PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR FEEDBACK IF STAFF ARE NOT EQUIPPED TO HANDLE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.
A terrible night, which would have just been a very average night had the waitress not acted in a punitive and bizarre manner.
Do not recommend.

Walked into this place twice today and left disappointed both times! At lunchtime, after a impudent welcome from the bar staff, we discovered they didn’t have Fox Footy and promptly left. Returned in hope of an early dinner… all tables were booked but rather than slot us in for a quick feed with our 16 month old (we would’ve been in and out before half of the reserved tables had arrived) the dismissive and unhelpful waitress fobbed us off and wasn’t interested in our patronage. Won’t be back!

Had the wallaby shank. First time, and it was delicious. Followed by the brownie for dessert. Hope to go back again. Lovely venue.

From making us wait awkwardly on arrival to poorly cooked food and lack of staff communication and service. The food overall was average and then we waited almost 30 minutes to order dessert but staff avoided us once we finished our mains. We gave up waiting to order dessert and decided to leave, then received the most insincere apology upon departure when asked if everything was satisfactory.

Classic country Bistro pub - but wow what exceptional steaks - very generous size and very very tender - great flavours. All dishes very fresh, friendly staff and views over bay area. Good reasonably priced wine list.

Stunning location with ‘The Nut’ just behind it, and one of the best steak dinners I’ve ever had!
Unfortunately, the restaurant was booked out so I sat in the pub area on a Friday night - it took a long time to be noticed/served, and there was a lot of raucous, uncomfortable, drunken behaviour.
The staff that I did deal with were lovely though - I’d just strongly recommend booking the restaurant ahead of time!

The best steak I've ever had in my life! Was cooked exactly as I ordered, very tender, seasoned well & the whole meal tasted amazing! Dessert was delicious too. The staff were lovely & was very quick service even though the bistro was nearly full. It was our favourite meal in Tasmania.

Went for lunch there, surprinsgly nice quality food made from local ingredients & very well presented, lots of options for local beers and wine. The dishes were simple and hearty, so dont come with the gourmet Michelin stars expectation, but lovely overall. They also had some vegan options which is always nice and appreciated. Staff was super friendly. Yes it does get booked out at night. We tried different food places in Stanley but this one stood out as the best.

Great food, came out fresh and hot. Lovely staff checking up on us and the meal. Very welcoming. We had the oysters both natural and cooked. Chicken snitz (had the peppercorn sauce, which tasted abit pepperminty), seafood pasta, pot pie which was a big hit aswell as the Christmas truffle and Nutella cookie

Very rude service. The bistro was empty and we asked for dinner for 4 people and was advised no fully booked even though the bistro was empty. I wouldn't even bother as a gold fish would have more personality then the lady behind the bar.

Jackpot, 1st class.
What others had said about the ambiance, courteous service, food presentation and taste is all true- perfection is what it is.
Well done Team Stanley Bistro! Very happy satisfied customers are we.

Food made with top quality local Tasmanian ingredients. The dishes are relatively simple but serve to highlight the sheer quality of the ingredients. Wine list consists of a good variety of - again - locally sourced product. Service is attentive for a hotel bistro.
If you're here in summer, book a week ahead, it's popular with both tourists and locals. In winter you can usually book on the day. Usually.
