Stanley Hotel Bistro reviews
64 STEAK.
I'm hoping this constructive feedback is seen by the owner of the business and forewarning other potential diners on ordering a steak.
We ordered the beautiful Cape Grim steak medium rare, which came out medium well done. My husband is never one to make a fuss, but when we're paying over $50. We assumed the chef was just having a bad night. So we sincerely apologised to our waitstaff and kindly asked if the steak could be cooked to again to our order of medium rare. The steak was cooked again, hoping the experience would turn around.
Unfortunately, to our dismay, the steak was almost blue, and if the restaurant was quiet enough, could potentially hear it moo too.
We didn't dare to ask the chef to throw the steak on for another minute or two for the sake of ruining the steak again.
We should have stopped at the mains and left. Still feeling hungry after a half eaten meal, we decided to order dessert. Pavlova roulade.we thought this ought to be made in-house and fresh. Once again. It failed miserably. The pav had an awful texture and felt like it had been made a week ago. No crispy texture on the outside, except a weird eggy texture. Cream Chantilly, probably wasn't necessary as there was nothing Chantilly about it. Lemon curd was like a punch in the face. Again, the flavour pairing on this dessert should have been the easiest to create.
Rather disappointing experience, as it's only 1 of 2 restaurants in the area. We spent $180 for 2 people with no alcohol.
Well done to the young lad with a mullet who knew how to make a very above par Irish Whiskey this evening after we’d been penguin watching on a chilly September evening.
We loved our meal here! Very quaint pub, lovely service and delicious food. Could tell that every ingredient was of high quality and left very full and very happy. Would highly recommend.
One of the best pub meals I’ve ever had. Steak was amazing and good value compared to places I’ve travelled including Sydney and Melbourne!
Staff were friendly and helpful, setting is lovely overlooking the hills and township and the food was top quality.
Good drinks range too which topped off a great dinner.
Lovely old pub but the drink prices are way over the top.
Be prepared to pay 40% more than you would elsewhere for a beer and wine.
We dined here for our first night at Stanley and was not disappointed. The food was delicious and so flavoursome! We had the reef and beef and the panookie for dessert, the panookie was to die for! The atmosphere and service was quick and kind, such a great place for a meal here at Stanley!
Great food, service and history under one roof. Loved the scallop pie, and the wine cellar in the bottle shop is well worth a look
Quite a disappointing experience. They may have been short of staff, but my meal took almost an hour from the time I ordered. In the meantime, a couple of larger groups, who had arrived after us, had already eaten. Sadly though, the meal was not worth waiting for. Hotel food varies a lot, but this was definitely at the lower end of the scale.
Fourteen bucks for a ginger beer on tap.pretty pricey for a pub but a monopoly on places to eat is probably the reason.some staff had great difficulty in understanding orders at the bar.the food was nice
Mmmmm ok. I should have known better than to order the 'flake'. Very average meal for the price. The 3 stars is for the cold beer.
The food is amazing we had the oyster and the Cape crim scotch and it was bloody beautiful. Will go back again. They need Carlton Draught on tap
Fabulous location, friendly staff, excellent service. Great menu and drinks selection.
Salt n pepper calamari, scallop pot pie and steak (cooked to perfection) all perfect.
Thoroughly recommend
It’s great that they use local produce and I’m happy to support that however I would rate the food we ordered as pretty average pub food; nothing exceptional. Friendly service and definitely busy spot.
We were hungry at 3.30pm and Stanley Hotel Bistro hours show open from 11.30am to 9pm, so we were unhappy that all they were serving was pizza. The place was empty. When the pizza came out we were impressed with the taste however we were just given it on a pizza board and nothing else. No accompanying plates, cutlery or serviettes. The young lady that served us looked like she didn't want to be there. 3 stars are for the pizza only.
Awesome spot to grab a beer, or have a meal! Food is always on great, steaks cooked perfectly, and amazing staff such as the wonderfully cheerie Alexandra. She definitely deserves a raise for her outstanding service!
Had dinner here tonight with my husband and kids. We all thought our meals were delicious! It was really busy, we couldn't even get in the first time we called. Glad we tried again though. Service was great and food came out in a timely manner. My calamari melted in my mouth and my pina colada was yum and creamy. Kids meals were a good size and my kids ate every bit. Highly recommend
Bistro had a very nice atmosphere and was very clean. We ordered the abalone, salt and pepper squid, fish of the day, steak sandwich and fish and chips. Fish and chips were a bit overcooked but otherwise the rest of the food was great
After a long drive up to beautiful Stanley good food was welcomed. Food was tasty for sure.
The mushroom arancini and abalone were good but expensive. The squid as a main was delicious not sure about the side salad. The chicken schnitzel with pepper sauce was really good. Desert we had the sticky date pudding which was awesome and the frangelico crème brûlée both were so good we never took photos!
You need to book ahead and because it’s so busy you really struggle to get someone back to your table if you want to order your next round of drinks.
We kind of figured you should order everything at once starter, main, drinks and deserts. Service was good and the staff are pleasant but I would think they short staffed slightly.
Regardless of that we coming back later in week to try some other things on the menu (not many eating out options in Stanley at night)
Good local fare on the menu, with lovely food. Prices are highish but the meals and service are very good. The location was perfect for us as it was a short walk from our accommodation. I recommend booking as they were busy on a weekday.
Very nice place, great service. Even though there was a hiccup with our food, the way it was handled by the staff was excellent and we were very happy in the end.
