Retro Cafe reviews
74Terrible service, got the order wrong, eggs were over cooked and waiters were CBF and angry. We asked for water and they told us there was a bubbler inside, so we asked for some bottles of water instead and the waiter slammed them down on the table. Breakfast officially ruined.
Waited over an hour for breakfast and it still came out cold except the tomato waiter dropped cutlery on ground and then gave my daughter a dirty napkin will never go back there again
The soup was oversalted so much that it was'nt possible to taste the vegetables. Moreover the waitress lied pretending that she did taste and arguing there wasn't any salt in this soup!
The last time I came here they didn't take eftpos. I tentatively went inside to see a new eftpos payment system so stayed for a coffee. Indoor and outdoor seating. Sitting outside there was loud music pumping out from inside. Lovely latte with table service. Far too easy to walk away forgetting to make payment though.
Let me start with, I rarely ever write bad reviews.but, advise not to eat here. Got breakfast, spinach and salmon, and something was off as 3 bites in almost threw up. Didnt eat 90% of my $22 meal. Told staff at check out my experience, advising that something was off.he didnt care at all. Said sorry your not well, and charged me full price. No concern or care. Which, felt off with the lack of interest or care, like they know something, or just dont care about their customers. I dont wish anyone else to full price to get food poisoning, as there are many amazing places in Hobart. Was recommended, and ruined my day in the toilet instead of touring.
Decent breakfast, friendly service and good coffee. Suggest that the dodgy old carpets get ditched and upgrade the flooring. (Was happy to find that they could cook scrambled eggs, had tried two previous cafe's and they could only do poached and fried eggs?)
Went there for a coffe on a Sunday afternoon at 3 pm - 1,5 hours before the Cafe closed. First I waited 20 min for a waiter before I needed to go inside to order my coffee there. After I got the coffee (taste was OK!) around 3.30 another waiter immediately started to put away all other chairs, umbrellas and tables. One hour before closing time! It was an immense noise and he even didn't try to do it a little more silently. As if he wanted to show me that I should leave as soon as possible. After 10 minutes of loudness my table and chair stood alone on the boardwalk. I really didn't feel welcome anymore so I decided to pay and leave to find another place where service is not that bad
Inside it was as noisy as outside. There were still some guests having coffee and a snack but all the chairs around were already put on the other tables and one waiter was vaccuming the floor while talking on his mobile phone.
That was really the worst experience in an Australian Caffè of my holidays. Everywhere else the staff is friendly, polite and knows how to behave towards guests.
The place is quite busy. But the food is okay, not great.plus they overcharged us for an item that we never ordered.
Busy little spot, stepped in and recieved a friendly greating. Fantastic service, lovley coffee and spot on breakfast. Dont hesitate on this place.made me proud to be Tasmanian.
Managed ti wrestle something together for me that was a little off menu, just a couple of various ingredients into a toasted sammich but the preparedness of Retro to do that was cool. Also, best stool pigeon joint near Parliament and Supreme Court.
Really lovely staff and nice coffee. Food wise, I've only tried the toastie and muffin. Both were good.
Beware the dinosaurs! The coffee is robust and flavoursome and the staff friendly, flexible and efficient.
EXCELLENT COFFEE
Average food
The eggs and sautéed spinach were really good!
The BLT was not so good. The bread was undercooked, the bacon was undercooked, it was largely cold, and the bagel made it too doughy.
Lovely spot and some fun tunes playing? ️
Prices are thru the roof since I went there 2 years ago. Great location though. Food nothing special. Many better places to go in the area.
Retro is a bit different to when I was there in the 90's on a regular basis for breakfast. Food is still great, as long as you are accustomed to commecial eggs () but prices have skyrocketed and serving staff were not sufficient to the number if patrons.
Average cafe. Seating is very uncomfortable and it is really crammed in there. Took 40 minutes to get our eggs on toast and even then, it was the smallest 2 eggs I have ever received from a cafe. Not bad in a pinch, but there are better options in the area.
Quirky place with good coffee and friendly service. It has been aeound for ages in a prime location in Salamanca Place which attracts a lot of tourists. Best avoided on Saturday (market day) if you don't like crowds.
I went there a few times, coffee getting worse time to time, my friends actually don’t like there, they said it is racist and snobbish here.our experience of the last time was horrible.
The waiter put plates and coffees on my table in a so rude loud way that other guests looked at us. So I told myself I will not go there.
Outstanding toasted sandwich and good coffee. Was made in quick time despite being very busy and service was excellent. Felt very satisfied
The fat Asian lady at the counter is rude and overwhelming. She is about the size of a convenience store and has an attitude even bigger than her size.
