New Sydney Hotel reviews
73A bit disappointing. Don't know if it's a covid effect but no where near as good as it used to be. Menu not as interesting as it was and quality down.
It is always a pleasure visiting The New Sydney Hotel! Such a friendly, lively atmosphere with live music, great food and plenty of laughs. So Many memories to be made here. A must see if you're visiting Hobart!
As always dinner at the New Sydney was a very enjoyable occasion. The staff are always friendly and smiling. And the food is of good quality and portion size with options that will suit everyone. Very good range of drinks available on and off tap. Whilst busy it did not feel crowded and we were well attended to. Can't wait to head in again.
Update; I have returned to the New Sydney multiple times since this original post and each time it has been just as good.
Two stars only for the food which was fairly Average, cream in the pav was not cream but some other junk.service was excellent beer was cold and a top little pub
Very cool little pub with lots of interesting memorabilia adorning the walls and ceilings. Like most of the places in Tassie the staff were fantastic, pleasant and polite.
Impressed by the online booking system and the way that staff responded to it. I requested accessible seating, and on arrival staff double-checked that the table we'd been given was suitable. Food was good and service was prompt and friendly.
Enjoyed our dinner which is why we went. Parmi was top notch. The highlight was the killer whisky collection. For the whisky fanatic your going to have fun. The prices where very realistic for top shelf
Has a beautiful nostalgic feel about it, great Irish memorabilia. Roaring log fire which you could watch for hours. Nice wines and spirits.
An amazing pub that rotates craft beers on their taps. The Pig’s Ears are phenomenal and the staff, even better. This is the type of pub you feel guilty pulling your phone out at because the atmosphere is so good. Thank-you for your hospitality!
The New Sydney has really gone downhill. I am going to document last two times I have gone to get a meal there.
Friday, a couple of months ago, the pub had recently been handed over to new management, so I was willing to let this slide. However, we got there as a group of four locals at 12: 00, and ordered some meals. After 55 minutes our meals had still not turned up. We queried. They said they were coming and asked if we would like any more drinks to which we answered yes. The drinks took another 20 minutes to arrive, and the meals followed shortly after that, so after having planned to have around 90 minutes to eat a meal, as I had a 1: 30 appointment, I had to try and eat what I could in the few remaining minutes I had left and leave the rest of the meal behind.
However, today was the final straw. I was walking around thinking where could I go for lunch solo, I thought Fox Friday but I looked and they were too busy. So I thought ahh you know what I'll try the New Sydney.
I got in there at 12: 35, and ordered a drink and a parmy at 12: 39 (The actual charge went through at 12: 40). I sat down at one of the window seats, and listened to a couple opposite me discuss what they were going to order. After another few minutes I saw a friend of mine on the street w/ a business associate, and they came in and ordered a meal too and sat nearby.
Wait wait wait. Eventually the couple opposite me got their meal. Followed by the other group I knew, and I continued to wait. At 1: 10 I went up to the bar because I had to leave.
The single staff member was attempting to serve all the customers, so I continued waiting until he finally got to me and I said I wanted a refund.
"You ordered 18 minutes ago"
"I ordered 32 minutes ago, I have to go, I want a refund"
Positives: I got my refund
Negatives: I'll never go back again, and I'll make sure to warn every local away from the New Sydney from now on.
Great local pub with an excellent parmi and live Irish music playing some nights. Kitchen closes early on weeknights though, service (while lovely) is a little slow, and make sure you have a booking because it can get busy and be difficult to find a table.
A fine example of the Hotelier's art. Warm, welcoming. A proper drinking pub. A word to the barman will set you up with the right beverage. A place where your higher thoughts can be easily accessed.
The overall feel of this place is amazing, you can have a drink with some friends and aslo have a meal with your family. I had the crunchy lamb shoulder, the lamb could do with a little more seasoning but it was a really dish. The lemon sorbet with meringue was one of the best deserts I have had In a long time. The meringue wasn't cooked too much and the presentation was incredible. The raspberry and passion fruit pure complimented the dish beautifully.
The new Sydney Hotel is an amazing place to eat, hang out, go for a drink and talk with some friends. Definitely coming back.
A small pub with a few restaurant tables to one side. Warm friendly and just great.
Food was an interesting pub menu. The food was cooked perfectly, the flavours were outstanding!
Busy little inner city pub. Very interesting decor. Porterhouse steak was good. Tender enough. Vegetables were not over cooked as they often can be in pubs. Very friendly service. Plenty of choices for beers
This place has a fantastic atmosphere, staff and food. Will def visit again. Pigs ears, wallaby popcorn, Guiness pie and chicken breast dish. Delicious.
Buffalo cauliflower was amazing, love the flavour and the jack fruit chimichangas topped it off. Great service. Will come back for sure.
We spontaneously picked this fabulous pub out of the blue, whilst searching local pubs in Hobart. Only going in for a beer before moving on, we were there for hours. Best beers, served by very friendly efficient staff. Sunday arvo cool live music, which was enhanced by the local clientele, that led to the best pub food ever! Sensational Wagyu steak & Kingfish. Overall could not rate this place higher. A must do visit when here!
Many bars claim to be Irish and simply end up trying too hard. This place nails it, beautiful warm fire, great beers on flow and good hearty meals to add to the mix. Friendly bar service to make you feel right at home. Best bar in Hobart. Maybe the best in Aus?
Awesome service by Laura excellent food wonderful atmospher we loved it
