What the hell is this food? Inedible -Like nothing I have ever been served from an Indian place b4 -The nan's were chewy reheated and vile the samosa like from the inferno of a volcano and the sheeshkebab was fish
Would never ever recommend this place ever

This place was absolutely horrible last night. Went for birthday dinner and left with disappointment. Firstly, The lady who served us treated us insanely bad.secondly, Food was below average except curry. It’s our 4th visit and had never encountered this lady before and now it’s our last. We’ll definitely warn my friends and family from going here. I request the owners to be respectful towards your community people too. Lastly, please remember to smile to customer, it won’t cost much. Would give 0 out of 5 for poor hospitality.

Bad experience, not like, bad hospitality
The chicken gravy masala. I honestly don't know I think maybe they just forgot to add chicken, only 2 pics, and over spicy, and was just generally unenjoyable. The chicken was also tough and over cooked,
Not recommend don’t want to go next time.

On a positive, the cheese paneer was pretty good.

The naan serving size was laughably small (no literally, we made jokes about it)

The chicken tikka masala. I honestly don't know I think maybe they just forgot to add any cream at all? Was very dark, abit burnt tasting, overly spicy and was just generally unenjoyable. The chicken was also tough and over cooked

Side note, to Indian restaurants as a whole, pls just give us rice with the mains, does anyone actually not order rice? Who are these poor riceless people?

If you took the time to read my rant, cheers aye

Ps, the puck is the chicken tikka masala

We wait around 1hour for the food. It's very very bad customer service. My kids was staving. Eate before you go to this restaurant.

Beware of raw chicken and hair in the mango lasi We ordered tandoori chicken and it came raw, we alerted the owner and she had a second chicken cooked for us which was also unfortunately not cooked as well.
Zero star for this restaurant. Eat the chicken at your own peril!

It was really terrible experience at this place. I was shocked that Master chef did not know the difference between Paneer and Cheese and prepare wrong dish than as usual standards. The owner was even not sorry for that and then have to order other Curry which was fantastically worst than previous one. The owner was focused on Charging for those curries and giving excuses about their mistakes to just runaway from their responsibility. Yeah. Its magic curry which will ruins your dinner date. Customer service can not be expected if you are keen to explore really good indian food there are really plenty of amazing restaurants in Hobart.

Confused by the reviews this place receives. We ordered the vegetable korma and it literally didn’t taste.will not be back that’s for sure. We understand this is a mild curry but that relates to spice not flavour of any sort. Lucky we had some rice to fill us up. The customer service was also not good. Rude and pushy. Very unpleasant experience.

Saw the rating and read on their website that its best north indian restaurant in Hobart. Seeing it to be very pricey we thought it must be very good. After going there we found its ambience very basic and customer service was ok. Food was very basic, nothing special and didnt find anything authentic about north indian food. Bad decision, will not go again. Though the locality around the cuisine looked good.

Coming from india one of the key tests for me is the chef’s ability to make a good biriyani. The biriyani did not feel fresh at all and tasted like it was out of a microwave. It also had raw onion pieces mixed with the rice and masala which is normally unheard of in a biriyani. The other disappointing item was the mango lassi which tasted more like mango juice with hardy any lassi flavours in it. Compared to what you get in other good Indian restaurants it was truly disappointing.

The Roti and Naan was more like Papadums if you kept them for 5min. Soft when served but the consistency of the dough made it to go crisp very fast.

They did average on the chicken tikka and tikka masala which had decent flavours but the chicken was not as soft as what you get in other places. The Paneer Butter Masala was also below par.

The flavours in the dishes were not balanced with concentrated Garam Masala flavours rather than a good blend of freshly ground masala. The staff were also uninterested in entertaining us or asking us for feedback.

We had a toddler with us and our request for a high chair saw the waitress just pat clean old food particles from the table attached to the high chair which speaks a lot about how the restaurant manages hygiene. We ended up seating the baby in a normal chair.

My roommate and I ordered from here through UberEats and the food was surprisingly sub-par. The curries lacked punch although the breads were fresh and delectable.

Very expensive restaurant for the quantity and quality of food served. The Entree were a complete non- starter

Maybe it's a busy Sunday night, we had to wait for about 40 minutes to get our food. Luckily the food wasn't disappointing. Unfortunately, the staff didn't show much care of their customers, we believe a 5 star restaurant should include a nice service. The place was crowded and loud, the staff left food on the table even if we answered who ordered that curry, they just leave it on the table then left. Check your bills before you pay as they did overcharge us. They prepare us what they think we should order instead of what we literally order and eat. Be aware!

Food was good, and was happy with quantities too.
However, the service of the main lady/manager was horrible, it was clear that she prioritised serving the caucasian customers over anyone else, even though everyone there was a paying customer. She was rude, unfriendly and overall ruined my experience at the restaurant.
Don't recommend if you're a non-caucasian person looking for a good dining experience.

We tried some biriyani (friend told its delicious and the portion was quite OK), Malai kofta, chicken something curry and garlic naans. Food was fine (kofta balls are just 3 or 4 for the portion, size of marbles), tried mushroom pakora which was average as Indian restaurants here use the same batter for starters (onion to fish). Safe option for friends gathering and all kinds of occasions.

#Quite loved by locals and tourists

##Parking is a big CRY especially in busy times.

#I have read the owners replies for few of the ratings and complaints, so i do not want to comment anything about ambience.

###Felt little uncomfortable as the reception after entry was quite a judgmental or a kind of cheap look by the manager or owner (personal opinion). May be the brown skin is even a problem for browns too or got too much absorbed in just serving Caucasians. Whatever the explanation or response the owner gives, i felt uncomfortable as i did not witness a welcoming smile, or enthusiasm in welcoming the guests especially tourists (friends from Sydney).

Dear owner and manager of the restaurant, we are all quite successful in our fields and doing very well with respect to everything you expect living here (pharmacist, nurse, civil engineer and finance assistant). Please get that feeling from your head possibly as people can afford and casual looks does not mean we are cheap in terms of affordability. I expect a self loathing response from the owner or atleast a rude explanation with added intelligence. On the contrary he was extremely helpful and very nice to locals. I just expected the same treatment.

Small cozy restaurant servicing great Indian food and wines. The service was friendly and efficient. A must-visit for Indian food enthusiasts!

Spice level: MILD TO MEDIUM

1. Malai Kofta: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED- this is the best Malai kofta I had in Hobart, not too spicy nor too sweet just perfect. The creamy and rich flavoured curry was irresistible.

2. Garlic Naan: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED- The naan bread was perfectly fluffy, and bursting with garlicy flavour.

3. Dal Makhni: RECOMMENDED- The taste was good, like home made. However, I personally prefer a thick consistency when having the dal outside.

4. Pista Kulfi: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED- They offered a complimentary desert – Thank you guys
It was rich and satisfying treat. It was dense, creamy, and velvety, providing a rich and indulgent experience with every bite.

After reading couple of good reviews and above average rating, I was excited to visit this place.

I ordered Onion pakora, Chicken Butter Masala and Cheese Butter Masala (it has paneer in it), cheese naan, roti and laccha paratha.
Onion pakora was served with lettuce and a mint chutney (Unfortunately I was very hungry and I couldn’t capture a pic of it). Onion pakoras were good and fresh, roughly 6 small pieces (not a generous quantity).

Butter Chicken was very sweet (some might not enjoy it very sweet) & chicken pieces were very tender and well done.

Cheese Butter Masala was well done and it wasn’t over spicy. I liked it most.

They do serve complimentary sliced onions. The service is quick and staff is friendly.

Magic Curries serves lovely traditional Indian curries, and although I thoroughly enjoyed my curry and naan, the only reason I chose not to rate the restaurant five stars is the portion sizes. For my money, I would have liked a slightly larger serving or a slightly cheaper price. However, due to the friendly staff and wonderful flavour of the meals, I don't think you can go wrong if you're after Indian cuisine.

Dinner here with daughter on recent visit to Hobart. Attracted by proximity and walking distance from St Ives Apartments where we stayed. Food was excellent as was the quick efficient and friendly service in a traditional homely seeing with fireplace.
