Magic Curries Indian Restaurant in Battery Point, Hobart TAS reviews
54Saw the rating and read on their website that its best north indian restaurant in Hobart. Seeing it to be very pricey we thought it must be very good. After going there we found its ambience very basic and customer service was ok. Food was very basic, nothing special and didnt find anything authentic about north indian food. Bad decision, will not go again. Though the locality around the cuisine looked good.
AMAZING - maybe I was just craving Indian, but it was a great little place, lovely staff and the food was great - nice prices given the location
Magic by name, magic in flavour! Best indian we've had in a while. Smooth, full of flavour and just the right amount of bite. Staff were lovely as well. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
Coming from india one of the key tests for me is the chef’s ability to make a good biriyani. The biriyani did not feel fresh at all and tasted like it was out of a microwave. It also had raw onion pieces mixed with the rice and masala which is normally unheard of in a biriyani. The other disappointing item was the mango lassi which tasted more like mango juice with hardy any lassi flavours in it. Compared to what you get in other good Indian restaurants it was truly disappointing.
The Roti and Naan was more like Papadums if you kept them for 5min. Soft when served but the consistency of the dough made it to go crisp very fast.
They did average on the chicken tikka and tikka masala which had decent flavours but the chicken was not as soft as what you get in other places. The Paneer Butter Masala was also below par.
The flavours in the dishes were not balanced with concentrated Garam Masala flavours rather than a good blend of freshly ground masala. The staff were also uninterested in entertaining us or asking us for feedback.
We had a toddler with us and our request for a high chair saw the waitress just pat clean old food particles from the table attached to the high chair which speaks a lot about how the restaurant manages hygiene. We ended up seating the baby in a normal chair.
Magic Curries serves lovely traditional Indian curries, and although I thoroughly enjoyed my curry and naan, the only reason I chose not to rate the restaurant five stars is the portion sizes. For my money, I would have liked a slightly larger serving or a slightly cheaper price. However, due to the friendly staff and wonderful flavour of the meals, I don't think you can go wrong if you're after Indian cuisine.
Every time this place does an excellent meal.
Establishment is interesting and user friendly although people with walking difficulties may find the stairs a challenge (to the loo that is)
Overall a good place to return to. Well priced and great food. Lovely genuine staff.
Awesome Indian in Battery Point. Excellent service by lovely staff in this busy little restaurant.
Great Curry-House. Good flavours, not oily and good smiling service. Take-away service was prompt and reasonably priced.
Dinner here with daughter on recent visit to Hobart. Attracted by proximity and walking distance from St Ives Apartments where we stayed. Food was excellent as was the quick efficient and friendly service in a traditional homely seeing with fireplace.
The food was absolutely amazing. Service was impeccable. I took my in-laws who are visiting from Argentina and it blew their socks off. I would highly recommend if you want some nice honest curries in a lovely atmosphere. I would advise to pre-boom it gets very busy!
Good food at acceptable prices for Hobart with decent service. Food was fresh and hot while the serving time was pretty quick. The ambience is a bit of a weird one, it's a little bit too dark for my comfort at least but the fireplace was so nice for a cold winter night. Maybe a little bit brighter lighting wouldn't hurt. Would still recommend though.
Very nice food and reasonably priced. Customer service was very good also, welcoming and pleasant. Would recommend to others who like Indian cuisine.
A small restaurant hiding in Battery Point. Recommended by a friend, so we decided to give it a try. The decor is very heart warming. Sitting by a fireplace in a cold weather is one of the best things. Our group is very happy with the food. The host and waitress are both very friendly with prompt service. Restaurant is little small so tables are quite close. But overall, a really good place for dinner.
