Left of Field, Camping Gardens reviews
48 There are a lot of mosquitoes and the shower room is very poor. The kitchen is not good and I just don't recommend it. If you don’t have a spot at a nearby campsite, please come. To Mountfield
It takes over 20 minutes to walk
Did we like it? We booked for 2 nights, stayed for 4 then rearranged our trip so we could spend our last 5 days here. I've started writing this review several times but keep getting distracted trying to figure out when we can go back. So yeah, you could say I'd recommend Left of Field.
The grounds are set up in a beautiful garden setting, they are very happy for you to take a tour of the garden space. The sites are spacious and laid out to provide privacy. There is an outdoor kitchen area with sink, BBQ, fridge, kettle, table and sitting area. Two porta showers with good water pressure that are hot on demand, plus you get a large area for privacy. Two toilets cubicles which are very clean. There is also a washer and laundry lines.
There is a communal firepit where you can have great conversation with the awesome owners Adrien and Mel, their friends and family along with the other guests. There is a great bar with the regular options but also very unique and varied choices. Adrien and Mel are very knowledgeable about the stock and will help you choose something you'll enjoy. On certain evenings they have live music and fire up the BBQ with sausages or chops.one of the best lamb chops I've had.
On top of all this, they are very knowledgeable about the area and can advise you on all sorts to do.from hikes like the Needles or Growling Swallet to easier options or the dam walk. Adrien even rearranged his day to take a group of us hiking. You can also walk over to Mt Field National Park easily. There is a lot to do in the area so suggest you plan at least 4 full days.
A wonderfully eclectic and unique camping experience! Just what we were looking for in Tasmania. The bar is impressive and reasonably priced. A guided platypus viewing within walking distance was amazing! It is one of Tasmania's most memorable locations.
Everyone should experience "Left of field " it's well and truly worth the journey! It's the first place I've ever seen platypuses in the wild. Just ask your friendly host, Adrian, to show you where the platypuses frolic. He won't mind, just shout him 1698 ale!
The official national park campground was closed so we stayed at Left of Field, and we were so lucky for it! This campground is absolutely one of a kind. I’ve never been to a campsite with so many fun and quirky activities and amenities. The vibes and energy of the place were just fabulous. Everyone we chatted with was so lovely, including owners Adrian and Mel! It is clear they put their heart into the place and cultivating a fun, energetic, and community feel. Much more than just a place to pass through! At the end of our trip it was a joy to have power, water, a warm shower, and a great kitchen. Bathroom facilities were great and constant tunes were a plus. Couldn’t recommend more if you’re in the area!
Superb. Left of Field is absolutely fabulous, and Adrian and Mel are the loveliest people you will ever meet. Have a drink, listen to music and talk to fellow travelers in one of Tasmania's most beautiful national parks.
I'm pretty sure there are no rooms apart from what you bring yourself. This is a campground and it is beautifully rustic with plenty to laugh at or simply enjoy
Big campsites, friendly campers. Owner/managers Adrian and Mel were very welcoming. Not too many rules, basically be considerate of others. Glad we stayed. Close to tourist sites, Russell Falls, Styx River walk and Styx Big Tree walk.
5 star, highly recommended.
Wonderful hosts, thoughtfully landscaped and a bar like no other even if you just have a lemonade
Great place, super accommodating, and a delectable whiskey selection. Thanks Mel and Adrian.
Nice caravan park beautiful ground very nice owners but only fault not enough showers and toilets
Amazing campgrounds on lush green grass next to dams filled with yabbies and the chance to see platypus right next to your campsite! Adrian and Mel went all out to accomodate from fully stocked bar of over 100 different scotches and gins to live music acts and fires in the evenings. Adrian went over and above treating my daughter with all sorts of fun activities about the place. A must stay for anyone travelling the south of Tassie
That you Adrian and Mel for yet another unforgettable stay. Your hospitality knows no bounds. We love what you do! We look forward to our next visit.
Quirky campground. Great sites, grassed areas, clean toilet and shower facilities, friendly hosts. Shower facilities and limited but do have hot and cold water.
Great place to camp. Interesting art installations. Fabulous well stocked bar. Live music. National Park within walking distance. Owners are awesome too!

As a special experience this is worth staying a night or two (though $40 a night, powered, is pretty steep.). A bar and live music, plus the chance to see a platypus nearby. Hot tub is available - but definitely book ahead. Only two toilets available from what we seen. This unique place would be awesome with a more reasonable price tag. Lovely host!
Adrian made the first stop of our Tassie road trip so fun and welcoming! Beautiful site with great facilities and a great bar. Also super close to the phenomenal Russell Falls and tall trees. Can only imagine the atmosphere here during summer! 100% recommend to anyone
This place was by far the best camp site my partner and I stayed at over the couple of weeks we were in Tasmania. The hosts, Adrian and Mel, are very friendly and helpful and the campsite has a very unique and warm feel to it.
Close to the national Park behind for a lovely 2.5 hour walk seeing the three waterfalls there.
Amenities were clean and easily accessible. Hot water for the showers, flushing toilets which were always clean, kitchen, even a bar which was a nice touch with a wood fire, music and inviting vibe from 4pm. The hot bath they have nestled in amongst the forest off to the side with a fire and lights at night that you can book for 2 hours was absolutely amazing.
Can't fault this place, so much that we stayed 3 nights on 2 separate occassions. Will be back when I return.
Had a really good time at Left of Field. Great bar with a massive selection of drinks and some awesome camp sites available for any type of camping. Also, Adrian was able to steer us in the direction of some great local hikes that are well and truly local only knowledge. You'll have to have a beer with him at the bar to find out about them.
Amazingly cool site, great facilities, great bar and place to mingle and I'm sure even better when there's live music, run by absolute legends. We'll be back!
