Hungry Wombat Cafe reviews
57Always stop when we go past. Always good food, usually pretty quick and always super friendly
After a long drive through the forest we stopped at this restaurant for lunch. On 1st January, the shop was filled with customers. Before ordering itself they mentioned 40 minutes wait time. The food came within 30 minutes and the food tasted very good. Fish and chips are very fresh.
Perfect middle rest stop on our road trip from Hobart to Strahan. Food and service are in good quality. Scollop pie is very unique and it’s my highlight.
What a welcome sight and experience this was. A nice humble cosy little stop on the highway, serving up decent fare to refuel your belly, while refuelling your car. The seafood chowder went down a treat on the rainy day we stopped in. The chicken salad was also delicious. If you're after a cheaper, yet decent food option, then go with their toasted sandwich, which I saw plenty of others enjoying around me.
The sandwiches are customisable, and the chips are perfectly made; it makes for the ideal pitstop before the final drive to the west coast of Tassie
Best coffee I've had in Tasmania. Toasted sandwich was delicious. Good prompt service, spotlessly clean. Range of convenience foods and alcohol available. Highly recommend.
Stayed away for work and we stopped in and wanted a feed and what did I find a fantastic burger menu followed with fantastic friendly service. Also was one of the best coffees I’ve ever tasted. Wish I had of taken a photo of my work mates burger. The photo of the cheeseburger I ordered don’t do it justice. 10/10
A good stop for breakkie on the way to Cradle mountain. Toast with chicken and Bacon burger were good!
Really great Burgers and chips.good coffee and friendly service! Keep up the good work! Ill be back:)
Well well…. After discovering there was not beige in Derwent bridge, no wall open for visitors we stumbled across the cafe …
Blessed with snow outside and a fire inside we enjoyed our lunch! Gotta say guys the touch of chilli in the cauliflower soup was fantastic - still not understanding why all cafes in Tassie serve there burgers with a knife stabbed in the middle - must be a local finesse
All in all a great little stop during your travels
Nicely located for lunch on the Lyell Hwy bit over halfway between Hobart & the West Coast. Food & service was brilliant especially the chips! Super fresh & crunchy! Great spot to sit & enjoy the sunshine.
I had the yummiest pumpkin soup and toasted bread and husband loved his burger.
Great service, lovely little stop.
Hello Luna, just wanted to address a couple of thing's. Thanks for your review. However I am the owner and chef of The Hungry Wombat Cafe. I'm more than happy for people to post their review if unhappy with service and food etc. However I am fairly certain you've my place mixed up with another business. As we haven't any females working out the front for over 4-6 week's and definitely do not shout and yell at employees. Also I'd never say we've added a special local ingredient even jokingly. I just thought I'd address this as it is quiet an average review and it's not for my place of business.

Kind regards

I am not a Tasmania's local and I was treated as that.
My partner and I, we stop by for a quick breakfast as we were having a road trip around Tasmania. Which was amazing! (If removing the Hungry Wombat experience).
We stopped by at the Hungry Wombat Cafe. To start with, the lady at the front, was not very welcoming, with no smile and screaming to the other employees, but we were hungry so we didn't take that into much consideration.
We ordered our food, we ate and I kindly thank the chef after having our breakfast. I remember congratulating him for the great meal.
I was seeking to create a better atmosphere, as from the start we didn't feel welcomed and I found thoughtful to show our gratitude for his labor.
The chef, sounding and looking unfriendly he stared at me and said he had added a "local secret ingredient".
My partner and I, we got a total weird vibe out of it and decided to never recommend this place.
They need to better their service and ways to treat people. I wouldn't risk to eat there again.
I recommend you to read all the lowest stars reviews and you will notice a pattern on their hygiene and on the way they treat people.
Hopefully this business story change to a possitive one some day.
A great point to stop for lunch on the way from Hobart to Strahan/ Queenstown. The burgers are huge and come with many variations.
Great cafe, we had the chicken salad burger it was tasty and came with a side of fries. Highly recommend.
Burgers and chips were absolutely great. Exactly what we needed to eat on a cold winter day, and we could even sit in front of the fire to keep warm. Staff were very friendly and even gave us advice about the snowy conditions and what to expect on the drive ahead.
On the way from Hobart to Strahan, we stopped at the Hungry Wombat Cafe for lunch. The service was prompt and friendly. The coffee was tepid and the meal wasn’t what we ordered but tasted nice nonetheless. If I was doing the trip again, I’d still stop there for a snack.
Overcrowded, due to lack of competition and table placement. Service was very slow and the food & drink were just OK.
This cafe has everything going for it.just near St. Clair national park, midway between Hobart and Strahan, amazing food and good staff!
