Home Hill Winery reviews
42Very pleased with our visit and lunch at Home Hill Winery. Well signposted from Huon highway and plenty of parking- next to alpacas! We started with a wine tasting of 5 of their wines - free if you purchase one of them. We were then seated indoors in a very light and airy dining room - we could also have had the option to sit outdoors- and many diners were doing that. Service was relaxed and professional and the meals were first class - blue eye and pork both cooked as we liked them. Would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant
The best winery in Huon, unfortunately did not have a chance to try their restaurant... Until next time!
Disappointing experience, the lady that served us didn’t engage with us as all, we finished our tasting in 5 minutes. There was no chit chat, no information about the wines, after we finished she didn’t ask if she could help us with anything, we left knowing we would never go back or recommend them to anyone.
Came here as part of a wine tour. Lovely staff member had lots of knowledge and spoke about the uniqueness of this family run winery. The Miss Daisy was phenomenal and well priced for such an elegant bottle of bubbles! Will rave about these wines to my sommelier friends back home.
We had a lovely experience with our tour group. Some reviews are negative with the service of the cellar door, but our guide was fantastic. The wine was great and the whites and sparkling wines well worth a try. They are famous for their Pinot so that was the great finish. We didn’t stay for lunch but it looked delightful.
What a thoroughly disappointing experience this was. We are long time fans of Home Hill Pinot, indeed the Kelly’s Reserve is an annual fixture in our small cellar. So what a shame to make a trip out from Hobart for a tasting experience that was one of the poorest in my many years chasing great Australian wine. From the minute we walked in it just felt like we were in the way, an annoying distraction. After not being acknowledged for close to 10 minutes we were briskly rushed through 5 wines with no commentary about them, their style, the terroir or indeed anything that would show a hint of passion for the toil that no doubt went into each glass. The wine is good, no doubt. But save yourself the trouble and just buy it online and spend your cellar door time at a winery that cares deeply about the wine they produce.
Torn on how to review lunch here. Was a special lunch for family that haven't been able to get together for some time. The wines were exceptional, the food was, on the whole, very good, however the service was average at best and at times, very poor. Our waitress was unsmiling and lacking in any sense of enthusiasm throughout the meal. When a dessert was forgotten, we were told abruptly that we didn't order it. Not a huge deal but in a fine dining restaurant, such graceless service is noticeable. Particularly when 5 people heard it ordered. The sad end however was when we joined the (not insignificantly priced) member club, having checked that the 10% dining discount was redeemable immediately. On paying we were told, abruptly, that it was not redeemable until after our first shipment of wine. On a bill towards $1000, this was not a small amount. When I pointed out that I had joined based on the premise that the discount was redeemable today there was no apology, no nothing. It was a sad end to a nice meal that left a really poor taste in my mouth and could so easily have been handled differently. For a wine tasting, fantastic, but there are better restaurants for a full fine dining experience.
Wines were good but cellar door service was sour. It made me want to leave as soon as possible - felt like I was a nuisance.
Lunch is always Devine, flawless! The wine is absolutely beautiful, wonderful range and fabulous drinking. The views and atmosphere are stunning. Service is great. A definite must when visiting the Huon Valley
First stop on a wine and cider tour. Got to taste some delicious wines and learned some interesting facts about wine making in the Huon
Wives are lovely. Service not so great at cellar door. They did have a private function on that evening which might explain why we felt like an inconvenience and treated rudely.
Lovely setting. A warm welcome by staff. Wine tasting was easy; interesting wines. Table service was courteous, but lacked real engagement. ‘That’s how the chef does it’ was frequently quoted when questions were asked. We actually would have liked a choice whether meat was rare, medium or well done. Overall food was well prepared & presented. Tastes were mostly intriguing to the palate. Wines were a great match. Recommend a visit.
Disappointing cellar door experience. Our tasting was rushed through and the information given was so vanilla a child could give more information. The manager made it clear that no conversation was on the agenda. As questions were given very abrupt answers. Unpleasant. Unsatisfactory. Seems this woman has upset many customers from perusing reviews. What a letdown.
Good wine and a pleasant location. Pinot Gris was my pick for a glass on a hot summer day at this winery.
On arrival the Winery looked very impressive. Unfortunately our experience was not pleasant. Firstly we were Surprised that we had to pay to taste their wines. This is the first time ever we have been asked to pay in all the years we have been traveling and visiting wine regions. The most disappointing aspect of our visit was that the assistant was rude and not helpful at all. Treated us if we were not there. On two occasions we tried to make conversation about the wines and the area, we were completely ignored. My suggestion to management would be to train there staff on hospitality and manners.
Winery was beautiful but unfortunately the wine service tasting could be improved significantly. We were planning on eating lunch there but decided against it after the experience. Such a shame as the wines were nice
Very disappointing service. My family waited for about ten minutes at the cellar door as the bartenders served every other group first, even those who arrived after us. Perhaps speculating, but we are a large family of Chinese Australians. We left when the bartender told my mother she needed to remove the tasting list she was looking at, which sent a message that they did not want to serve us- she proceeded to take the list off us, and deliberately turned to the next people who arrived to ask them kindly whether they wanted to try wine. I dont believe we were being loud or disruptive, so there didn’t appear to be any basis to deny us service. We left without trying any wines or food. I’m sure this was not representative of the quality of the wine, food, or even service overall, but it was one instance that I hope no other customers have to experience.
Beautiful scenic location, with smashing menu options. I had the mushroom risotto followed by the lemon meringue desert. Scrumptious!
A hidden gem! We spent a pleasant afternoon at this winery. First, we did a wine tasting and then we had a great lunch. The beef and salmon were delicious. One of the highlights was the garden and surrounding of the winery! After lunch, we relaxed outside, lay in the grass, watched the cows and just enjoyed the sunny day. We can highly recommend this place!
The meal was excellent, as well as the wines. However the tasting service could be improved, and the prices are quite high for the value.
