Highland Restaurant

July 2021. The Highland Restaurant was another highlight of our time at Cradle Mountain Lodge. The team were absolutely knowledgeable of the menu and were helpful when we were struggling to decide what to choose. Although high in the Tasmanian mountains, the oysters were as fresh as those found on the east coast or on Bruny Island. Meals were devine and served promptly. Breakfast was also enjoyable, with the buffet offering a wonderful range of items that will suit even the fussiest of diners. Staff recognised us after our first visit and gifted us with tables in coveted position thereafter in front of the open fire.

Not remotely worth the expense! I'm pretty easy to please, but the food was average at best and there was nothing on the menu that they didn't also offer at the Tavern next door (which incidentally charges about 50% less!). The online menu (on their actual site) is also not up to date, so don't rely on that. Was actually really disappointed overall

We had an amazing dining experience here. The food was beautiful the service was exceptional. Our waitress, Holly, was so awesome! She was very friendly and helpful and very attentive. The staff new we were celebrating a Birthday and Anniversary and they brought our some chocolates and kept offering complimentary champagne!

Fancy fine dining and worth the cost. Make sure you book ahead and would recommend the cheese platter.

Little dear for a piece of salmon quite small. GF pizza was pretty pricey too. Wedges was nice and priced reasonably. Bar drinks nice! White rabbit beer tasted great! Nice ambience. Near to the few walks which was great!

Excellent food in a great setting (the fireplace makes it very cosy).
Food was absolutey gorgeous. And that risotto.so so good!

Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes but the salmon was utterly tasteless and the sauce, if you could call it that, was watery and didn't taste of anything at all. Very underwhelming. And the $68 beef dish? Well, nothing really to write home about when you have to slice the wads of fat off yourself.
Not overly recommended. We went to the tavern afterwards so I could eat something that was actually nice! So I suppose you could say at least I had a new experience of two main courses in one night!
Such a shame!

We tried to make a reservation though the Highland Restaurant is closed to individuals who aren't staying in their accommodation due to Covid-19 risks. However the bar and bistro is apparently open to everyone, great insight especially for an establishment that cannot accommodate family booking.

In general, good food in a stunning location but overpriced and not to the same quality as would usually be expected with "fine dining". Most importantly, this was a disappointing dining experience as a vegetarian and I would not recommend it. The vegetarian dishes (except the halloumi) were clearly an afterthought or (more likely) not thought about meaningfully at all, and you will leave sad and hungry if you don't eat meat. Despite asking us when we made our reservation if we had any dietary requirements, the staff were apparently not interested in making any accommodations for said requirements. To me, that's poor service, and at a premium price we were not impressed.

Beautiful fine dining in the Cradle Mountain National Park. Staff are wonderful and the food is sensational- amazing flavours, perfectly combined to compliment each other. Choice of 4,5 or 6 plates- staff will help you select the right dishes/ number of dishes you for table. Plates are beautifully presented in a modern and contemporary style. All wines are Tasmanian- all excellent local wines.

Steak beautiful. Curry absolutely beautiful. Carbonara just lovely. Huge burger, couldnt finish. Just awesome

Very good quality food in a cosy restaurant beside an open fire. Choice of 2,3, or more courses and a large range of wine and other drinks. Staff attentive and helpful.
A little pricey but it’s a pretty small market at Cradle Mountain and not much competition.

Terrible customer service. We had dinner somewhere else and just wanted to try their desserts. Restaurant was empty but they said they only do 2 courses. Seriously!

This restaurant being one of the few in Cradle Mountain is usually heavily booked as they have inhouse hotel guests, so best to book it in advance to avoid disappointment. However that is not the main reason it is heavily booked - they make excellent Australian food using a lot of local products like Tasmanian Salmon, Wallaby meat, etc. The one thing they can probably improve on is the risotto. I'm not used to fetta cheese risotto but it also doesn't have as much flavour as the risotto I am used to having.

Had a great night, ordered the eye fillet medium rare and came out rare but was such a superb piece of beef that it didn’t much matter. Would go back.

The food prepared was sophisticated and fresh.would recommend people to try the seafood chowder and the mains! Even the black pudding with scallops for entree doesn't taste too strong. Nice ambience where you can see the woods outside. Must make a reservation before you go there as it is usually fully booked.

Food was fine. Seafood chowder had plenty of fish and mussels. The fish filet and scallop mains were all tasty as well. Unfortunately, the service was hit or miss, which is disappointing for the price point.

Amazing food, great friendly service, lovely roaring fire and clean surrounding. Loved every minute of my dining experience.
We had 2 fussy eaters with us who could not fault anything they ate.
